Chapter 95 No More a Secret.
Chapter 95 No More a Secret.
Angela’s POV
~continuation~
“You promised me,” Angela continued, her voice rising despite herself. “You said he would be mine. Even after all the damage, I still made sure my father did not withdraw all his support from your company.” Her voice cracked as she spoke, and she turned her face slightly away, fighting the tears that threatened to spill.
“And who says I did not keep my promise?” Mrs. Alexander replied coolly. “If you had done everything you were supposed to do, if you had played your game properly, my son would not be thinking of marrying some girl from the slum over you.”
Angela threw her head back and laughed, loud and deafening, the sound echoing against the walls. It was not laughter born of humor, but of disbelief and fury.
“My game?” she repeated sharply. “Did you not say, ‘Do not worry, I have this under control. I will make sure he marries you. He is my son and he listens to me and me alone’?” She mimicked Mrs. Alexander’s tone with cruel precision. “Even after I gave you the fake contract between him and that bitch, all you managed to do was make a video. Once. Then you stopped.”
“You will not speak to me like that,” Mrs. Alexander warned, attempting firmness, though anger made her voice tremble.
“Or what?” Angela shot back. “Did you not also say you would wipe her off the face of the earth? How did that turn out? That bitch is still breathing, and now he is about to propose to her. You better do something, or I know exactly how to convince my father to withdraw his support.”
“Are you threatening me now, you insolent…” Mrs. Alexander began, but her words cut off abruptly.
The bedroom door opened.
Liam walked in, Scarlet close behind him.
Both women froze. Color drained from Angela’s face, while Mrs. Alexander stiffened, her composure cracking just enough to be noticed. What was meant to remain hidden had suddenly been dragged into the open.
Silence followed. Thick, suffocating silence.
Liam dragged his foot forward as he approached them, each step deliberate. His jaw was clenched, his eyes dark with something that had been building for far too long.
“You know,” he said finally, his voice low, “I always had this feeling that you were involved in the attempt on Maureen’s life.” He paused, swallowing hard. “But a part of me did not want to believe it. You are my mother. I thought you would never want to see me destroyed, even if you never cared much for my feelings.”
He stopped speaking and drew in a breath, as though steadying himself.
Angela moved first. Slowly, cautiously, she stepped toward him, guilt and regret flickering across her face. “Liam,” she whispered, reaching for his hand.
“Do not fucking touch me,” Liam snapped, jerking back. “You Jezebel.” His voice shook with rage. “I told you I never liked you. You knew that. Why keep forcing yourself on me? I do not want you. You disgust me.”
The words fell like blows.
Angela’s breath hitched, and the tears she had been holding back finally broke free. She had always known Liam never supported what they once had, even before Maureen entered his life, but hearing the depth of his disgust shattered something inside her.
Liam’s chest heaved. As if realizing the weight of what he had said, his voice dropped. “I am sorry,” he murmured. “I did not mean it like that.” He rubbed a hand down his face, frustration etched into every line. “But how could you both do this? My own mother and my ex, plotting to kill my girlfriend. How do you even sleep at night? Especially you, Mother.”
He turned to Mrs. Alexander.
She sat calmly on the edge of the bed, hands folded, expression unreadable, as though the chaos unfolding meant nothing to her.
She said nothing.
“I came to you,” Liam continued, bitterness seeping through his words. “I asked you directly if you had a hand in it. You looked me in the eye and denied it. Part of me knew you were lying, but another part wanted so badly to believe you. Why? Because I wanted your approval. Even when I knew I would never get it.”
His voice softened, heavy with disappointment. “I tried to make you see how happy I am with Maureen. I dreamed of a day where the three of us could coexist, with love and respect.”
Mrs. Alexander did not look away.
“Even when you doubted me, she believed in me,” Liam said. “She comes from a poor home, yes, but does that make her less human? She tries so hard not to see you as an enemy, yet you could not hide who you truly are.”
“Enough,” Mrs. Alexander snapped suddenly. “Enough, Liam. Spare me the lectures. So now you talk down on me because of that slum girl? In case you have forgotten, I am your mother. I brought you into this world, and you have no right to choose a poverty ridden girl over me.”
Liam laughed bitterly. “Then I guess you just lost that position. You never cared from the start, so why pretend now?”
Before Mrs. Alexander could respond, Angela dropped to her knees, her sobs breaking free as she clutched Liam’s feet.
“Please forgive me,” she cried. “I did not know anything about the assassination attempt. It was all your mother. The only thing I did was the video. I swear I did nothing else. Please. I love you.”
Liam looked down at her, anger flashing in his eyes. He gently freed his leg from her grip, but Angela crawled forward and grabbed him again.
“I am sorry, Liam,” she sobbed. “Can you not see why I did all this? It is because I love you. I want to spend my life with you. Do you know how long it took to convince your PA to give me something that could incriminate Maureen? I would go any length just to have you b…..”
“Wait,” Liam interrupted sharply. “What did you just say about my PA?”
