Chapter 103 Chapter 103
I grabbed the phone from Damien and pressed it to my ear. "You bastard, what did you do?!" I yelled into the phone
A sinister chuckle came from the other end, and it made my stomach twist sickeningly. "Oh, there she is, little Miss Feisty. You aren't the victim anymore in this story, but hey, look, we have your friend, and if you really want to save her, you and Damien would have to come around before I put a bullet through pretty Mia's head here."
"Don't you dare touch her! Don't you dare touch her, you hear me?!" I yelled out in tears.
"Tik tok, tik tok." Alexander said and cut the call. Cold sweat perspired across my forehead. This was not happening, and if it was, then it was completely my fault.
"No, no, he tracked her phone. Or he tracked mine. How did he find her, Damien? How?!" I panicked.
"You shouldn't have called her, Lisa. I told you to wait for my instructions first. But this is not your fault, you couldn't have known." He said, touching my shoulder.
Tears welled up in my eye,s and I paced around angrily. Mia was my only family; I couldn't sit back and let Alexander hurt her.
"You have to help me save her, please. I beg you." I pleaded with Damien. His hands were planted into his pockets, and he looked at ne thoughtful.
He looked hesitant for a moment, like helping me save my friend was that tough a choice for him. My red-rimmed eyes continued to bear into him, waiting for a positive reaction.
"Okay, I'll help you." He said, finally. I let out a sigh of relief and sat on the bed. My heart felt like it was going to leap out of its chest.
"But this is going to cost us a whole lot. We aren't prepared for this, and I am certain Alexander has a trick or two up his sleeve." He had a point.
"Get some rest, we will convene in a couple of minutes." He muttered and walked out of the room. My stomach felt sick, the food that had previously seemed enticing to look at now irritated me. I was not going to be comfortable until I got Mia back.
I got up and went downstairs. Damien sat in the living room with Duke and two other guys, looking through Claudia's files.
"Check this location. Is it possible he is after something?" I heard Damien mutter as I approached.
"What is going on?" I asked him. They looked up at me in unison, and then he beckoned me to come join them. I sat beside him on the long couch.
"This is the last place Alexander was seen. And we assume that you and I were right. He is trying to track down the people on the list. Probably this flash is a copy of the real document." Duke briefed me.
"Where is this?" I asked, pointing at the red dot on one half of the screen, which doubled as a map. Duke clicked on it, and the red dot expanded.
"That is near Church Hill, do you know it?" Damien looked at me.
"Yes, that's close to Mia's workplace. It's the street right next to Mia's workplace." I replied, as dread crushed my spine.
"He was tracking her," Damien muttered. "But he was also tracking this guy."
"Talk about double luck. Kill two birds with one stone. I guess you set off her tracking number when you called. He isn't tracking her; he's been tracking outgoing calls placed from your cell."
I swallowed. This was not helping my guilt any more than it was making me feel like jumping into a lagoon and just die.
"How can this even be possible?" I whispered, wiping my forehead.
"Well, at least we know that he placed the call to your phone, so we can track his last location from your phone, " Duke said, and I handed the phone to him.
He connected it to his computer and went straight to my call logs. He copied my log onto his computer and took out the phone number from the log, and began to track its last location as of the time of the call.
"Well, looks like he isn't far from Church Hill after all. The lazy bastard couldn't even bother to get far." Duke muttered with a self-impressed smile.
"Does this mean he didn't find who he was looking for, and that is why he is still in the area?" I asked, clueless as to whether it really mattered whether he was close to Mia's workplace or not.
"Well, that or he just wants an easy place to dump the body when he is done with it!" I gasped.
It took half a minute before he realised what he had just said. Damien gave him a stone glare, and he nodded in defeat.
"I'm sorry, that's not what I meant. We'll make it in time to save her." He shrugged his shoulders. I gulped down and pulled myself together. It was taking all the courage in me not to collapse at the mere thought of what Mia could be going through at that moment.
"We will find her," I whispered to myself. Damien turned to Duke and nodded at the computer.
"Pinpoint the exact location, and we move out in ten. Get the boys ready." He ordered and got up. I sat staring at the computer. Mia's last location, her fear, what she must have felt when he crept up on her and grabbed her.
Was she scared? Was she courageous? What was I even thinking? She must have been scared shitless! In our world, it didn't matter how many times you saw crime; you just never got used to being at the center of it.
Because each turn would most probably be your last. I heaved a deep sigh and got up. I had to speak to Damien, know what his plan was, and how we would get her out without her becoming a casualty.
As soon as I got to his door, I heard him and Duke speaking.
"Do whatever you must. If it comes down to Mia or the Syndicate, I would cut her off just to make sure I destroy them."
