Chapter 240 240
Chapter 240 240
Blair stared at her mother.
The fear in her mother’s eyes only made the anger building inside her worse.
“Why?”
Her mother looked at her.
“Why did you let her do this?”
Her voice trembled.
“Why did you let Olivia control everything for so long?”
Her mother lowered her eyes.
“Blair…”
“No.” Blair shook her head, tears slipping down her cheeks. “You don’t get to just come back after all these years and tell me we don’t have time.”
Her voice cracked.
“You let her ruin everything.”
Her mother flinched.
“You let her make me believe I had no one.”
“I know.”
“You let her take everything from me.”
“I know, my child.”
“And you just stood there?”
Her mother started crying.
“I was afraid.”
Blair’s expression broke.
“Afraid of your own daughter?”
Her mother didn’t answer.
Instead, she reached into the bag hanging from her shoulder.
Her trembling fingers pulled out a worn brown envelope.
She handed it to Blair.
“What is this?”
“Open it.”
Blair hesitated before taking it.
She pulled out several papers.
Her eyes moved across the first page.
Hospital records.
She frowned.
Then she saw her name.
Blair.
Her eyes widened.
She quickly turned to the next page.
Blood donation records.
Her blood type.
The date.
The hospital stamp.
Everything was there.
Blair’s breath caught.
“I don’t understand…”
Her mother wiped her tears.
“You donated blood.”
Blair looked up.
“What?”
“You were the one who donated blood that day.”
Blair stared at the documents.
Memories slowly came back.
The hospital.
The blood donation.
The fear that someone might die.
Her heart began pounding.
“But Olivia…”
Her mother shook her head.
“Olivia took the credit.”
Blair went completely still.
“What?”
“She told everyone it was her.”
Blair’s fingers tightened around the papers.
All these years…
She had believed Olivia had been the one who saved them.
She had been praised for something Blair had actually done.
Her eyes filled with fresh tears.
“She stole it…”
Her mother nodded.
“She stole what you did, Blair.”
Blair looked down at the records again.
Anger burned through her chest.
All those years.
All that pain.
And Olivia had been living with the credit for something that had never belonged to her.
Her mother suddenly grabbed her arm.
“But you have to be careful.”
Blair looked at her.
“Olivia knows I’m gone.”
Her mother’s voice dropped.
“She may already be looking for us.”
Blair’s heart sank.
She looked toward the road.
Then back at the documents in her hands.
“I have to go back.”
Her mother stared at her.
“Back where?”
“Brooks Manor.”
“Blair, no.”
“I have to.”
Her voice was firm now.
“If Olivia knows you’re gone, I can’t leave everyone there without knowing what’s happening.”
Her mother shook her head desperately.
“You don’t understand how dangerous she is.”
“I do.”
Blair folded the documents carefully and held them against her chest.
“For once, I’m going to face her.”
She looked at her mother.
“And I’m taking this with me.”
Her mother stared at the papers.
Blair turned toward the road.
Her mother stared at her for a long moment.
Then, without saying a word, she reached for Blair.
Blair barely had time to react before her mother pulled her into another hug.
Blair’s eyes burned.
She slowly wrapped her arms around her mother.
“I missed you,” her mother whispered.
Blair’s throat tightened.
“I missed you too.”
Her mother pulled back just enough to look at her face.
“You look so much like the little girl I remember.”
A small, broken smile touched Blair’s lips through her tears.
“I’m not little anymore, Mom.”
“I know.”
Her mother brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
“You became strong without me.”
Blair looked down.
“I didn’t want to.”
Her mother’s expression crumpled.
“I know, my baby.”
She cupped Blair’s cheek.
“You shouldn’t have had to.”
Blair closed her eyes, leaning into her mother’s palm.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
Then her mother pressed a trembling kiss to Blair’s forehead.
“I am so proud of you.”
Blair’s eyes opened.
“Proud?”
Her mother nodded.
“Even after everything she did to you, you still became kind. You still became a good mother to your son. You still found a way to survive.”
Her voice trembled.
“That is my daughter.”
Blair’s lips quivered.
A tear slipped down her cheek.
Her mother wiped it away.
“And Mave…”
A faint smile appeared on her face.
“I’ve never even gotten to hold my grandson.”
Blair’s expression softened.
“You will.”
Her mother looked at her.
“Promise?”
Blair nodded.
“I promise.”
Her mother smiled through her tears.
“Then go.”
Blair frowned.
“Mom—”
“Go get your life back .”
Her mother squeezed her hands.
“And go get the life they tried to take from you.”
Blair stared at her.
Something inside her settled.
Blair leaned forward and hugged her mother one last time.
“I love you.”
Her mother held her tightly.
“I love you more than you will ever know, my baby girl.”
Blair pulled away.
She wiped her tears, took one final look at her mother
Her mother held her tightly for another moment before suddenly pulling away.
“Blair.”
Something in her voice made Blair stop.
Her mother grabbed both her hands.
“There is something else you need to know.”
Blair frowned.
“What?”
Her mother looked toward the road, her face filling with fear again.
“Olivia isn’t only looking for me.”
Blair’s heart sank.
“What do you mean?”
“She wants you dead.”
Blair went still.
Her mother squeezed her hands.
“She tried once, Blair. She failed.”
Her voice trembled.
“But she won’t stop.”
Blair’s expression hardened.
Her mother continued.
“And now that she knows I escaped, she knows I can expose everything.”
She swallowed.
“She will do anything to silence me.”
Blair stared at her.
“Then we’ll stay here. We’ll hide—”
“No.”
Her mother shook her head.
“That’s not what I’m afraid of.”
“Then what?”
Her mother’s eyes filled with tears.
“Lucas.”
Blair’s breath caught.
“What about him?”
“Olivia knows how much you care about him.”
Blair’s face slowly paled.
Her mother tightened her grip.
“She knows Lucas will protect you.”
Blair’s heart began pounding.
“Mom…”
“She doesn’t want to lose everything she’s built.”
Her mother shook her head.
“She wants to erase everyone who can expose her.”
Blair stared at her.
“Lucas and Patricia…”
Her mother nodded.
“They’re in danger, Blair.”
The words hit her like a blow.
Blair immediately pulled away.
“I have to go back.”
“That’s why I’m telling you to leave now.”
Her mother caught her arm.
“Don’t go back looking for a fight. Go back to protect them.”
Blair looked down at the envelope still clutched in her hand.
The hospital records.
The proof.
Everything Olivia had tried to bury.
Then she thought of Lucas lying wounded upstairs.
Patricia beside him.
Mave.
Her jaw tightened.
“I won’t let her hurt them.”
Her mother’s eyes filled with tears.
“Be careful, my baby.”
Blair nodded.
“I will.”
She leaned forward and kissed her mother’s forehead.
“I promise I’ll come back for you.”
Her mother touched her cheek.
“And I’ll be here.”
