Chapter One Hundred and Fourteen
Chapter One Hundred and Fourteen
Alana
I enjoyed the first part of the night. Angelina and Jenny have been sweet towards me and made me feel welcome. Now, I am not having as much of a good time. Ezra’s dad showed up an hour ago, and even though he hasn’t said anything bad to me, he has barely acknowledged me. I received an emotionless hello, but I could sense that he would rather I not be here at all. I don’t know what his problem is. Yes, he acted like an asshole before because of Bella and her threats, but she is no longer around, so why is he still treating me like I am beneath him?
I refuse to let him see he is getting to me. I don’t want to ruin anyone else’s night because he has a problem with me. I can sense Ezra is irritated with him and is trying his best not to say anything. I don’t want Ezra and his father to fall out again because of me. I can make it through the next couple of hours. I really wish I could drink because I could be doing with one right now, but I won’t. I wouldn’t risk my baby’s health because I am anxious.
Ezra rests his hand on my knee, and his lips fall at my ear. “Do you want to leave?” he whispers.
I turn to face him. “No. I am fine. We can stay.” I smile and kiss him softly.
Ezra smiles into the kiss and rests his hand on my cheek. When we part, he smiles. “I love you. I am sorry my dad is acting like an ass.”
“I love you too, Ezra. It is fine. I expected it.” I shrug.
Ezra brushes my hair away from my face. “If you want to leave at any time, let me know.” I nod and steal another kiss before we part.
“Alana, how long are you staying?” Ezra’s dad asks with no emotion.
I refuse to return the attitude towards him. I smile sweetly at him. “I am not sure yet, for as long as I need to be.”
He doesn’t seem happy with my answer. I can only imagine how he will react when Ezra tells him he is moving to Scotland with me. I don’t think he will be pleased.
“Hmm, okay.”
He leaves the conversation there. I sigh and take a drink of my water, pretending it is something stronger. Yes, Ezra said we could go, but why should I? I don’t want to back down, or he will continue to think it is okay for him to treat me in such a way.
“Dad, stop being so damn rude to Alana,” Jenny snaps.
“I am not being rude,” he argues.
“Yes, you are. Stop it because she doesn’t deserve it. Alana is good for Ezra. They are happy, and you need to deal with it,” Jenny states firmly.
“I have my reasons.”
He stands, fixes his tie and walks away. I would really like to know his reasons, but somehow, I don’t think he will ever tell me to my face.
“Alana, I am sorry my father is acting like such an asshole towards you.” Jenny sighs.
“I appreciate you having my back, but it is okay. I know he doesn’t like me.”
“Give him some time, sweetie. He will warm up to you,” Angelina encourages.
“I hope so,” I say softly.
Who knows if that will ever happen? Time will tell, I guess.
“Ezra, will you come with me to get more drinks?” Jenny asks.
Ezra nods. He steals a quick kiss before he and Jenny disappear. I am alone at the table with Angelina because her friends are off socialising. Angelina moves from her seat to the one where Ezra was.
“How are you feeling?”
“Um, fine,” I answer, a little confused. It seems like a random question.
Angelina laughs. “I mean the pregnancy.”
Wait, she knows? How? Did Ezra tell her and forget to mention it? “You know?”
“Yes. I got a feeling when I first saw you. You have a beautiful pregnancy glow. You also refused alcohol, and you keep touching your stomach.” She smiles.
“Oh, I didn’t even notice I was doing that. Angelina, I am sorry if it is too soon for you to know you will become a grandmother after everything that happened.”
I don’t want to upset her because, like Ezra, I am sure what happened with Bella and Cora still stings.
Angelina reaches for my hand and squeezes. “No, not at all! I am happy for you both. I look forward to being the little one’s grandma when they arrive. How far along are you?”
“I can’t wait for everyone to meet Bubs. Nearly thirteen weeks. We planned to tell you soon, but we weren’t quite ready. The only person who knows is my best friend,” I tell her honestly.
“And everything is okay with you and the baby?”
I can hear the concern in her voice in case it isn’t. It is nice to hear concern from someone else, especially Ezra’s mom, since they are close, and she will be my mother-in-law one day.
“Yes, we are good.” I smile and rub my stomach.
“I am happy to hear it. Don’t worry; your secret is safe with me until you and Ezra are ready to share the news with the world.”
“Thank you. We appreciate it,” I reply brightly.
She nods and gives me a quick hug before she moves back to her original seat. I can relax now knowing Angelina is happy for us. I am sure Jenny will be too. I wonder if Ezra knows his mom has worked it out. We can talk about it later.
