Chapter 337 I Want to Sleep with Other Women
Thalia poked her head out and saw an elderly woman standing at the door, giving Stefan's bodyguards an earful.
She had been about to go in, her hand already on the doorknob, but to watch the show, she leisurely closed the door and retreated back to the nurses' station.
She glanced toward the argument and looked at the young nurse. "What's going on?"
"No idea. This woman came this afternoon and couldn't get in, so she started making a fuss, saying she's a relative of the patient in that room. When asked for proof, she had none. The bodyguards at the door didn't say a word to her, just wouldn't let her in."
Thalia was puzzled.
Stefan's relative?
Wasn't he the Jimenez family's housekeeper? Looking at this woman at the door, she must also come from a wealthy family - wearing a custom-made dress, leather shoes at around eighty years old, gray hair combed meticulously and neatly, and a pearl necklace that was clearly worth a fortune.
Could it be Eileen?
"Get me a chair."
The young nurse looked at her in surprise. Was this person getting addicted to watching the drama?
Planning to get a chair to watch properly?
Though she found it strange, thinking this was William's woman, she complied.
What if they didn't serve her well and their bonuses went down the drain?
"You're holding him prisoner."
"Is there no law to control you people?"
Thalia propped her chin on her hand, watching the show, and clicked her tongue. "Such weak fighting skills, saying the same few things over and over, no new material. I'm getting bored."
"Getting tired of it? We've been listening all afternoon. She just repeats the same few lines, so annoying."
"Miss, here's your coffee."
Thalia turned around to see a nurse holding a cup of coffee out to her, and was startled. "The service is this good?"
"Others definitely don't get this treatment."
"But I do?"
"You're different."
"Why?"
"Mr. Brown is our investor. Our director said our department's annual research funding comes from Mr. Brown, and a big chunk of our yearly bonuses is his contribution. You're Mr. Brown's woman; buying you a cup of coffee is nothing."
Thalia was stunned.
William never mentioned this to her!
So it was true that Amara's studying medicine nearly emptied the family fortune.
"Thanks."
When William came in the evening, just as he got off the elevator, the first thing he heard was the old lady's cursing.
Then he saw Thalia sitting on a chair by the nurses' station, sipping coffee.
Her eyes fixed on the argument, watching the show.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her. Thalia looked up. "You're here?"
"Enjoying it?"
"So-so. This person's fighting skills are weak. If it were me, I'd have gone in already."
Thalia stood up to go into the ward with William. As soon as she got up, her leg was numb from crossing it for too long. "Quick, help me up."
William helplessly reached out his hand, half-supporting, half-carrying her into the ward.
"Kind of sweet, what's going on?"
"Jealous."
"Is this how rich people date?"
"Rich people aren't necessarily good, poor people aren't necessarily bad. Money can't measure a person's character. If you're lucky, you'll be happy forever. If you're unlucky, you might lose your life." The head nurse glanced at the starry-eyed young nurse.
The latter sheepishly shrank her neck. "Don't be so serious."
The other didn't respond.
But her look wasn't exactly friendly.
When Thalia and William entered the ward, Vaughn was already awake. Harper had been caring for him all day, her face showing clear signs of exhaustion.
Seeing them arrive, she finally managed a slight smile. "I'm enough to take care of your dad. No need for the whole family to come watch over him. The doctor said it's nothing serious, he can be discharged after a few days of rest."
William listened to Harper and nodded. "Just stopped by after work to check on you. We'll leave after dinner with you."
Harper replied, "Okay, the servants will bring food soon. You can eat with us."
The luxury single room came with a living room and reception area, spacious enough for the family to eat together.
When they left the hospital, the person at Stefan's door was already gone.
"Was that Eileen at Stefan's door this afternoon?"
"Yeah."
"What did she come for?"
"Stefan is Steven's right-hand man. She probably wanted to find out something from him before he dies."
"This is really complicated!"
William hummed in agreement. Thalia got in the car with him.
"Going back to Mistwood Hill?"
"I'll take you to the Smith Villa."
"Why?"
"I'm busy tonight."
"What kind of business has to be done at night? And I can't come? You're not planning to sleep with another woman, are you?"
William didn't answer her question and told the driver, "Drive."
"I'm not going back to the Smith Villa."
"Then back to Mistwood Hill. Can you manage alone?"
"No."
Thalia was deliberately giving him a hard time.
"Why won't you go back to the Smith Villa?"
Why?
No face to show!
Who at her age mistakes their own mother for a man while sleeping?
Absolutely mortifying.
Thalia didn't answer him.
William asked again, "Where do you want to go then?"
"With you."
"I'm going to sleep with another woman. Not convenient to bring you. Think about where you want to go." William lost his patience, raised his wrist to check his watch, clearly in a hurry.
Taking time to drive her to the Smith Villa was already not easy.
Thalia pouted. Of course, she didn't believe William's story. He was probably investigating the car accident.
"I'll go with you. I promise not to disturb you."
"If you're there, I'll be distracted."
"But..."
"Should I take you to Evelyn's?" William phrased it as a question, but his instruction to Finn to drive showed no hesitation.
......
Evelyn had just gotten home and hadn't changed yet when she heard the password lock beeping.
"I thought it was my mom. Did Mr. Brown kick you out this late at night?"
Thalia glanced at Evelyn's phone screen. "About to order takeout?"
"Yeah..."
"Want to go out to eat?"
"Sure! I didn't feel like moving when I was alone, but now that you're here, I can move."
The two randomly found a barbecue stand. Just as they sat down to order, as Thalia raised her hand to pour water, something flashed in her peripheral vision - a familiar figure passed by across the street.
