Chapter 7 Promiscuous Woman
Thalia tried to keep her innocent image intact, even while standing at the police station entrance discussing such explicit topics with William. She forced herself to maintain a smile.
What sweet and innocent? She should have never listened to Layla.
She should've gone for the strong, confident woman angle. If she had, she'd have William wrapped around her finger.
"Not as much as you, Ms. Smith," William replied slowly.
"If you want to get to know me better, I could make some time for you."
William couldn't stand this humiliation.
While Thalia had the upper hand verbally, William's hand was taking liberties on the sly.
His fingers brushed against Thalia's waist, almost squeezing hard enough to leave a mark.
As soon as they got in the car, Thalia was livid. "Do you like grabbing things so much?"
"If you leave marks, how am I supposed to wear a backless dress?"
William looked at Thalia, who was rubbing her waist and grumbling, and chuckled. "What difference does it make whether you show some skin or not?"
Thalia rolled her eyes, and thought, "Are you shameless? If you don't want it, why touch it?"
William shot her a glance. "Ms. Smith, you touch every plush toy you see on the roadside for free. Why wouldn't I touch the most beautiful woman in Emerald City who's offering herself?"
Isla, hearing this, was stunned. Who was driving the car.
Thalia wasn't as innocent as she appeared on the surface.
The Smith family was complicated, with Hayden being notoriously promiscuous, having countless illegitimate children outside. Yet, Thalia was the most favored.
A girl without some tricks would never be able to make a promiscuous man settle down.
From the way she dealt with Indigo today, it was clear she was well-versed in the ways of high society.
Hiring a lawyer was merely to give herself a protective shield.
"Thalia..." Isla was driving William back to his law firm.
Isla noticed Thalia's gloomy expression as she sat silently in the car and cautiously called out.
Thalia leaned against the car window, bumping her head against the glass. "I have a headache."
"Should we switch lawyers?"
"If I don't hire William, Chase will definitely step in. If those two team up, will I get any money? No, no, I can't let Chase and William team up."
The thought of those two working together made her wish the earth would explode.
"What should we do then?" Isla asked.
"You go, contact the nearby shops, and start sending coffee to the law firm every day from now on."
"Should I say anything?"
"From the boss's girlfriend."
She didn't believe she couldn't win William over.
Isla understood, nodded, and was about to drive off to handle it. Just as she turned the car around, a water truck came speeding out of the intersection at the CBD financial center, heading straight for Thalia's nanny car.
The deafening crash was heard throughout the law firm.
William had just returned to his office and was taking off his suit jacket when he saw his secretary peering out the window.
"What's that noise?"
"A water truck crashed into a nanny car."
Just a car accident, nothing too unusual. William never liked getting involved in the commotion.
He was about to sit down when something struck him, and he froze.
Nanny car?
Thalia?
He hurried to the window and looked down, just in time to see Thalia's assistant struggling to climb out of the car window.
William rushed out.
"Mr. Brown," Isla looked at William like he was a savior. She heard Thalia describe William every day and always thought of him as a shrewd elite. But seeing him rushing over now—this was family!
Passersby were helping Isla out of the car.
William climbed onto the car roof to pull Thalia out, but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Thalia?"
"Mr. Brown, are you looking for me!" Thalia, not wanting to delay sending the coffee, was about to hail a cab home and send Isla on the errand.
Who knew the car would be hit by a water truck just after turning the corner?
She sprinted across the sky bridge and heard William's frantic shout.
Thalia's black dress fluttered in the air, her long hair disheveled but striking. Clearly, she had just run over.
William's eyes met Thalia's playful gaze, and he laughed in exasperation. "I was about to collect your body. What a pity."
"I've told you I don't like men who are all talk," Thalia adjusted her messy hair with a knowing expression.
Isla was taken to the hospital, and the traffic police took the water truck driver away.
William sent an assistant to follow up and returned to his office.
Thalia followed him like a little shadow.
As soon as the office door closed, Thalia pushed William against the wall, her hand landing precisely on a certain spot.
In an instant, William's restrained voice sounded: "Thalia, where are you touching?"
"I just wanted to see which is harder, Mr. Brown's mouth or this."
The hairs on William's back stood on end.
Upon closer inspection, his body trembled slightly with Thalia's movements.
Compared to William's restraint, Thalia's calm determination was more dominant.
Thalia's seductive manner made William grab her chin: "Thalia, where did you learn these tricks?"
Thalia leaned in closer. "From other men!"
In the modern entertainment industry, a woman need to play the game better than men to avoid being taken advantage of.
Otherwise, blushing at a little flirting? How did she become the top star in the industry?
William tightened his grip on her chin and pried her hand away. "No wonder you couldn't get into a top university."
Thalia was speechless.
If she didn't need William's help, she would have put him in his place for his smart mouth.
Thalia pried his fingers off her chin. "If top universities tested on how to have sex, I'd be first."
"If the bar exam asked about porn stars instead of legal experts, I'd be at the top."
William looked at her with utter disdain.
"Send Ms. Smith home," William called his secretary, Brian Scott, to escort her out. Being around Thalia gave him a headache.
Thalia didn't argue. Pursuing a man required knowing when to advance and when to retreat.
