Chapter 456 I'll Take Care Of Everything
"Are you hurt?" Vaughn walked over and looked Thalia up and down.
Thalia shook her head. "No."
"William, check if Thalia's injured. I'll have someone come up to clean this up."
With that, Vaughn left. William took Thalia's hand and sat down on the sofa, lifting her legs onto his lap to examine them carefully.
"Aren't you going to ask me how I broke it?"
"It's broken, so it's broken. It's not anything important." William's tone was casual.
Thalia felt uncomfortable hearing this.
"If it's not important, why did you put it in such a prominent place?"
William held her heel and slipped her slipper back on. "Things in prominent places aren't necessarily important. True love is always hidden in the heart."
"Things out in the open are for others to see. What's in your heart is what truly matters to you."
"Mr. Brown." as soon as William finished speaking, a servant appeared at the door with cleaning tools.
William made a sound of acknowledgment, bent down, grabbed Thalia's arm with one hand and supported her bottom with the other, carrying her in one arm toward the master bedroom.
The Brown mansion's decor was warm and cozy, with vintage touches and warm lighting throughout that made everything feel inviting. Thalia hooked her arms around William's neck and followed up on his words. "So am I someone you put out in the open or someone you hide in your heart?"
"You're different from objects."
"How am I different?"
William pushed the bedroom door open with one hand. The room had already been cleaned and carried a faint scent of air freshener. Outside the window, the violent wind and rain continued to beat against the glass.
Lightning and thunder occasionally tore through the night sky. Close to ten o'clock on this rainy night, the darkness would occasionally be ripped open, creating an intimidating sight.
As lightning and thunder crossed paths, Thalia didn't get William's answer.
Instead, she watched the man walk to the window and draw the curtains.
She thought the topic had passed, but William turned back, pulled her into his arms, and said seriously, "You're someone I want to show to the world and also hide in my heart. Thalia, when it comes to objects, as long as there's something in this world that can replace them, I never struggle. But you're not like that. You can't be replaced, so my love for you is quite conflicted."
The man's rough palm touched her face. "When I can feel your love, I want to show you to the world. When I can't feel it, I want to hide you away, keep you from the world's prying eyes."
Thalia felt goosebumps from William's serious expression.
She was like a coward. Whenever William talked to her about major life plans, she always wanted to run away.
"William, what would make you feel my love? Hmm?"
Thalia's slender fingers slipped into the man's perfectly groomed hair, her fingertips pressing firmly against the back of his head, her movements gentle, as if easing his fatigue.
"Did you film all those romance dramas for nothing?"
"Romance dramas only taught me how to date other men, not how to date my own husband."
"Then just treat me like another man."
"That exciting, huh?" Thalia's eyes curved with a playful, flirtatious look.
That night, the two stayed at the Brown Mansion.
After half a month apart, they naturally had a passionate reunion.
At the crucial moment, William was about to proceed when he instinctively reached for the nightstand drawer looking for something, fumbling around in the empty space.
Propping himself up halfway, he looked at Thalia, his question tinged with restraint. "Baby, we need to discuss something."
Thalia sensed what was happening, her expression slightly annoyed. "No condoms?"
"Yeah."
"What if I get pregnant?"
"Just give birth to it, I'll take care of everything."
"Is becoming parents really just a matter of one sentence?" Thalia was caught up in desire at the moment, but her mind was still relatively clear.
In this situation, any other woman would be dying to go hundreds of rounds with William, hoping to get pregnant in one shot and rise to the top through motherhood.
But Thalia was different.
William sighed lightly and pulled away. "Let me take care of you, I'll go take a shower."
.........
"Why don't you have the lights on?"
In the early morning hours, Amara got a call from the hospital. Half-asleep, she changed clothes and groggily tried to make her way to the kitchen for a glass of water to wake herself up.
As soon as she entered, she saw William leaning against the refrigerator, drinking a glass of water with ice.
"Are you crazy or just too worked up? Drinking ice water in this crazy storm?"
"Did you have a fight? Need to cool down? Or are you sexually frustrated?"
William changed the subject. "Where are you going all dressed up in the middle of the night?"
"The hospital, where else? I'm on call tonight. The hospital called saying there's been a multi-car accident and they need me back."
"Driving yourself?" William asked.
Amara waved her hand, signaling him to move aside, and took a bottle of water from the fridge. "Yes."
"Doesn't the family have a driver?"
"The driver's become a gardener. When you're not home, no one uses the driver. My work hours are irregular, and Mom and Dad think it's too showy. They've been modest their whole lives, and just because you've gotten rich doesn't mean they should flaunt it. That would make people jealous and could hurt their chances for promotions and evaluations."
"Let Finn take you." William said, walking to the living room and calling Finn on the landline.
Late at night, when Amara entered the hospital, she saw familiar figures wailing in the hospital lobby. The emergency room was in chaos.
"Dr. Anderson, you're finally here. There are too many patients. The on-call doctors are all on their way, but the rain tonight is too heavy. Many areas are flooded and not everyone has arrived yet."
"Check on the most serious one first."
Amara took medical gloves from the tray and put them on, walking to the hospital bed. Before she could start examining the patient, her attention was drawn to someone on another bed.
Isn't that Selene?
"What kind of accident?"
"A car hit a motorcycle. That girl over there is the car owner."
Amara glanced at Selene. "Arrange an operating room and get someone from thoracic surgery for a consultation."
.........
"Trouble's here."
"What trouble?" In the early morning, Thalia wasn't fully awake yet, nestled in William's arms, drowsily hearing his phone ring.
She mumbled and tried to turn over, then heard Angelina's voice.
"Selene got into a car accident on her way home from working late last night. The good news is she's not seriously hurt. The bad news is she hit someone with her car. You'll probably need to add a hospital visit to your schedule today."
As soon as Angelina finished speaking, Thalia woke up, rubbing her eyes and sitting up to look at William.
She watched him pull a pillow behind his back to lean against the headboard, his voice hoarse as he said, "Got it. Have Brian make time for it."
"Selene was in a car accident?"
"Yeah," William casually tossed his phone on the nightstand and opened his arms, gesturing for Thalia to come into his embrace.
Thalia obediently snuggled in. "Are you going to see her?"
