Chapter 426 That's Your Husband, Don't You Feel Sorry for Him at All?
"Where did the coffee come from?"
"Mr. Brown asked me to bring it to you."
Thalia reached out to take it, glanced at it, and asked Finn, "You busy? Come play cards, we need a fourth."
Finn replied, "Mr. Brown is inside."
"But Brian's there, right? It's not like you can go in and drink for him. You're just waiting to carry him out when he's wasted."
Finn added, "Mrs. Brown, that's your husband. Don't you feel bad for him at all?"
"Of course I do! But I can't drink for him."
Thalia blinked at him, looking completely innocent. "Come on, get in. We're waiting for you!"
Evelyn and Nicholas had been waiting forever.
Finn had no choice but to open the car door and get in.
…………
"Whose car is that?"
"That's Thalia's car. She's in the entertainment industry. That car is one of a kind in all of Emerald City, supposedly a limited edition."
"It's her?" Sean was surprised. Even from Regal City, he'd heard of Thalia. It was no secret that she had deep ties with William, supposedly some kind of childhood romance.
"Yep! The person who just got in the car is William's personal bodyguard and assistant. They say he's some expert William rescued at sea, and he's been by his side ever since."
"Looking at how respectful Finn is toward Thalia, maybe those rumors are true."
The person beside him analyzed that otherwise, given William's status in Emerald City, his right-hand man wouldn't have to show respect to anyone. So why was he so deferential to Thalia, even bringing her coffee?
There was clearly more to the story.
Close to 9:30, William finished his business dinner. The heavy door of the private restaurant swung open, and several business partners came out supporting the somewhat intoxicated man. A group of people stood by the street waiting for assistants to bring the cars around. In the dim light, the man stood tall. Without much movement, you could still see the aura of authority around him—that natural dominance that needed no decoration.
William's maternal grandmother was famous in Regal City back in the day for her beauty. When Steven went to the countryside, he was attracted by her looks and brought her back to Regal City.
Later, when William's grandmother's beauty faded, and Steven's love cooled, he no longer cared about beauty. When he needed power and status, he took a second wife. The two women looked completely different.
As a result, the Jimenez family children's looks dropped off with the second wife. Even at her age, William's birth mother still showed signs of her stunning beauty, and looking at William now, he was even better.
A person's presence really is innate.
William was chatting and laughing with people when he heard a car door close. Following the sound, he saw Sean standing by a car.
Thalia's attention was also drawn. She looked up at the man standing across the way. "Who's that? Mr. Brown's new enemy?"
"Sean, Michael's brother." Finn had done his homework long ago. He knew ninety-nine percent of the Jimenezes, if not all of them.
"Here for William?"
Thalia suddenly remembered something. Based on her instincts lately, when people wanted to mess with William but couldn't, they'd turn around and come after her instead.
Thalia added, "You think if Sean can't beat William in the end, he'll come after me?"
"Will he investigate my relationship with William and drag me into it?"
"Well..."
Hard to say, but it was definitely possible.
After all, not many people could touch William, but as a public figure, Thalia's schedule was pretty easy to track.
"Get out."
"Huh?"
"Don't understand? Get out."
"Didn't you say I couldn't leave until we finished the game?"
When William first came out, Finn had wanted to get out of the car, but Thalia had stopped him.
When he wanted to leave, she wouldn't let him. Now she was kicking him out.
As soon as Finn got out, Thalia tossed her phone into the passenger seat, hit the gas, and took off in a flash.
Leaving William standing there staring at the pink taillights, deep in thought.
Finn walked over to William's side and felt his questioning gaze. "Mrs. Brown said she doesn't want to get dragged into whatever's going on between you and Sean."
William's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
The crowd dispersed, leaving only William and Sean's people on the empty street.
"Mr. Brown, it's really hard to get a meeting with you."
"Depends on the person." William replied flatly, the implication being that some people weren't worthy of meeting him.
"Mr. Brown, if you have time, can we talk?"
"In what capacity?"
"As Steven's grandson."
"Not worthy." Before Sean could finish, William threw out those two words.
Finn got the hint and opened the car door. William unbuttoned his suit jacket and got in. The moment the door closed, Sean's face darkened.
Sure enough, Eileen was right. William was arrogant and didn't know his place.
"Mr. Jimenez."
"Drive, follow them."
Brakes screeched on the street. Finn stopped just in time, about an inch from hitting the car blocking their way.
Looking at the Mercedes blocking them, he called out, "Mr. Brown."
The moment the window was knocked on, William rolled it down and looked at the man standing outside.
"Mr. Brown, can we talk?"
"Mr. Brown, if you won't talk to me, I'll find other people to talk to. Like your father, your sister, and..." Sean said, glancing toward the end of the street. "Ms. Smith."
Threatening him?
William laughed. He hadn't felt this way in years. People who openly threatened him to his face like Sean were rare.
"Ms. Smith?" William pulled out his phone, opened his contacts, and called Thalia.
"Ms. Smith, Mr. Jimenez says he wants to talk to you."
Hearing this, Thalia's first reaction was to curse William. She'd already left, and this guy still wanted to drag her into it?
Her second reaction was that if William was saying this, Sean must have said something.
Was he threatening him?
"Talk about what?"
"The Jimenez family may have had some reputation in Regal City years ago, but that was ages ago. Now they're just a declining family, and they still want to reach into Emerald City? If they had that kind of ability, why not handle more basic business? Don't forget, half of the Jimenez family's shipments go through the Smith family's shipping routes."
"Not just anyone is worthy of talking to me. This guy is even more annoying than Michael." After that rant, Thalia hung up.
William glanced sideways at Sean. "Want the phone?"
"Is that necessary?"
Sean's face flushed with embarrassment after Thalia's verbal assault.
