Chapter 285 Going to Bed Early for This?
Matching outfits? With Gregory?
William's cold gaze fixed on her. He stood in the bedroom without saying a word. Thalia took a sip of soup, and before she could swallow it, she felt a chill down her back. She turned around and caught William's murderous look.
She choked a bit and swallowed. "What's wrong?"
"Matching outfits?" the man said tersely.
Thalia groaned inwardly, forgetting that William had high standards not just for her but for everyone else too.
She gave an awkward smile. "It's for work."
"What kind of work requires a married woman to wear matching outfits with an unmarried man?"
"Isn't that just how the entertainment industry works? You're upset about this? What if I play someone's wife in a script? Are you going to storm in and break us up?"
"William, it's for work. You bring women to business events all the time, and I never say anything. Can't we just understand each other?"
"Besides, I'm just doing a show, not wearing matching outfits with another man in real life. Don't be so tense!"
"From what you're saying, sounds like you're pretty excited about wearing matching outfits with other men in real life?" William sneered.
Thalia added, "No. If you think that way, there's no point. So far, in real life, I haven't found any man more handsome or richer than you. Think about it, am I an idiot? The men out there aren't as handsome or as rich as you, so why would I waste my time on them? Right?"
Thalia put down her utensils and phone, walked over to William, and reached up to ruffle his wet hair. "Be good, I'm someone with standards."
"Eat. If you don't eat now, the food will get cold."
William was speechless.
He added, "What show?"
Thalia replied, "A really popular countryside variety show."
"Three days of filming?"
"Yes."
"Who else is on it?" William interrogated her. Thalia, out of options, opened the show schedule Layla had sent her and handed it to William. "See for yourself."
"You tell me," the man was domineering and commanding, giving Thalia no chance to dodge the question.
Thalia cursed under her breath but still obediently took back her phone.
"Just people from the cast. Me, Gregory, Nora, plus other pairs."
"Overnight?"
"Men and women in separate rooms, don't worry, Mr. Brown. There's no one there I'm interested in, okay?"
"No one at all!" Thalia emphasized again.
Dealing with a man like William, she had no choice.
She could only answer his questions honestly. After all, this man had money, power, and means.
"No matching outfits." William ordered.
"Fine. Can we eat now?"
Thalia was done with this conversation. If they kept talking, she was going to lose her temper.
After Thalia finished eating and sat back at her vanity doing her skincare, she saw William pull back the covers and get into bed.
When had William ever gone to bed before eleven?
This man would get in bed at eleven and still read professional books for half an hour. What was going on today?
"You're not busy?" Thalia asked.
"There'll be plenty of time to be busy later." The man picked up a book from the nightstand and flipped through it, calmly waiting for Thalia.
This scene made Thalia's heart race.
She felt like William was plotting something shady.
Thalia dragged her feet getting into bed. Just as she lifted the covers and lay down, William turned off the light.
"What are you doing?"
"Taking care of business."
"William, are you crazy? You got in bed early just for this?"
"What else? Honey, you're going to wear matching outfits with another unmarried man, and you won't let me enjoy myself a little?"
"I already said I won't wear them."
"You say you won't and that's it? If the production team tells you to wear them, can you refuse? Thalia, that mouth of yours is only good for fooling me."
"Don't..."
"William..."
"Not there..."
...........
"What's wrong with you?" Early in the morning, when Layla saw Thalia, she noticed the woman looked completely drained, lying limply in her seat.
Layla put down her bag and turned on the car's interior light. She took out warm milk from her bag and was about to hand it to Thalia when she saw the marks under her athletic wear. Her eyes lit up. "You really know how to cause trouble right when you're about to do a show."
"Where's the concealer?" Thalia asked.
"You're a celebrity, Thalia! Believe it or not, if you go on the show like this today, within an hour people will dig up your middle school ex-boyfriend." Layla was furious. Thalia used to be so focused on her career, but after getting married, she'd become like this.
Layla complained while using concealer to cover the love bites. "Tell Mr. Brown to pick less obvious spots, please. I'm begging him."
The variety show was being filmed in the north, avoiding the southern summer heat. The temperature was just right.
After autumn arrived, northern evenings got a bit chilly.
When Thalia arrived at the production site in the afternoon, everyone was basically already there.
The director held a brief meeting to explain the rules, and the show went live that evening.
First, they drew lots to choose teammates.
Sure enough, Thalia and Gregory were paired together. Obviously, this was all arranged by the production team to promote the drama.
Maybe it was also because after they appeared on a variety show together last time, it went viral for a while.
"It's a lifestyle variety show. Over these three days, the production provides the location, but you need to solve your own meals, cook for yourselves, do your own chores. Okay?"
Thalia complained internally, 'No! I don't know how to cook! Won't I get criticized?'
Great, she could already see waves of trolls coming her way.
Layla hadn't told her in advance there would be a cooking segment. If she'd known, she definitely would have learned a few dishes!
"Can you cook?" Thalia quietly sidled up to Gregory.
"Yes." Gregory replied.
Then he asked, "You can't?"
Thalia gave an awkward smile. "How about I provide the ingredients?"
"What ingredients?"
"Whatever wild game you want to eat, I'll catch it for you."
"You're not going to catch me a snake, are you?" Gregory had an ominous feeling.
"If you want to eat it, that works too..."
The show was streaming live on the platform, and before long, a huge crowd flooded in.
