Chapter 257 Are My People Also Someone You Can Scold?
"You're lying! You're the one who climbed into my bed, and now you're pulling this act on me? There are tons of actresses in the entertainment industry. I wouldn't even look at those with great bodies, so why would I be interested in your flat figure?"
Cager got up from the floor and, before he could even steady himself, tried to kick Sabrina Fairchild, who was kneeling on the ground looking at Thalia.
Just as he raised his foot, William, who was leaning against the doorframe smoking, kicked him back down again.
"What kind of animal are you? Do you know where you are? Is it your place to act wild here?" Cager was furious, pointing at William and cursing him out.
William was never someone to mess with. Most of his patience went to Thalia, a small portion to his family, and as for things like conscience... he played it by ear.
The business world changed in an instant; overnight fortunes could shift. His identity as a businessman brought him no limitations whatsoever. He boldly carved out business territories and openly controlled the largest cash flow in all of Emerald City.
People had tried to win him over before. Women rule men, men rule the world. Since ancient times, heroes have fallen to beautiful women. But no matter how many business rivals sent women his way, he remained unmoved.
Not getting involved meant having no weaknesses.
And today, a man with no weaknesses was being called an animal?
William tapped his cigarette ash, his eyes darkening slightly. He said nothing, but gave off an extremely cold and oppressive feeling.
William tugged at his pant leg and was about to bend down to deal with the guy when Thalia grabbed him, stopping his movement.
That look in Thalia's eyes was clearly telling William it wasn't necessary.
Not necessary to dirty his hands over this scum.
William straightened up, following Thalia's wishes.
Seeing this, Cager thought he'd hit a nerve and let out a cold laugh. After all, he was someone Layla had personally recruited, someone who had created value for the company. How could Thalia bear to just destroy him? She definitely couldn't.
As long as Thalia couldn't bear it, he still had a chance.
He struggled, looking at Thalia pleadingly: "Mr. Smith, I promise nothing like this will ever happen again. Just considering the value I've created for the company..."
Thalia kicked Cager right in the groin, making him spit out blood.
"Animal? You think you can insult my people?"
"You don't think I stopped him to protect you, do you? I just didn't want him to dirty his hands. Cager, you've got some nerve, don't you?"
"I gave you face and you wouldn't take it, so don't blame me for getting nasty."
As Thalia spoke, she turned her gaze to Sabrina, who was kneeling on the ground wrapped in a bathrobe, half-naked: "As for you... you better behave yourself until this show finishes filming."
"I... I'll listen to Mr. Smith."
Sabrina was trembling with fear. Seeing this, Layla was so angry her teeth itched. Both Sabrina and Cager were people she had specially trained, and now their pathetic state made her want to crush them.
"Why don't you get back to your room and clean yourself up?"
Hearing this, Sabrina quickly put on her clothes and left.
Seeing Thalia about to leave, Cager had given up struggling: "Aren't you afraid I'll leak this news and make sure they can never work in the entertainment industry again?"
"Cager, are you really stupid or just pretending? Do you think after something like this happened, the company would keep them? If you want to leak it, go ahead. Do whatever you want."
Thalia shrugged and left the room. As soon as she got in the elevator, she heard Layla's Messenger ping.
She glanced at it and said: "People from Cager's former company said he didn't resign at all - he was kicked out, also for sleeping with a female artist."
"Then why didn't they say anything?"
Layla sighed helplessly: "He slept with Delphine Waverly."
Delphine, the newly crowned Best Actress with a bright future ahead. Who would ruin their career over something like this? They just made Cager leave some evidence to prevent him from talking nonsense later, then kicked him out.
After all, it wasn't something to be proud of.
"Apparently after an awards ceremony, he saw Delphine drunk and slept with her. After Delphine woke up, he even tried to threaten her. But Delphine was tough - she went straight to the company leadership to demand justice, and they fired Cager without a second thought."
Thalia flicked her nails: "No wonder you didn't find this out before."
"Let's call it a night. Tomorrow morning, have someone throw out everything in his office."
"Better find a reason that makes people hate him," William rarely offered Thalia advice.
"Just in case he tries to bite back later, nail down his reputation so hard that no one will believe anything he says."
Thalia got it right away.
She raised an eyebrow: "Mr. Brown's methods are really something."
Late that night, Cager lay in the hotel suite unable to think of any good solution. He drank half a glass of wine and fell into a deep sleep.
Near dawn, he was woken by a commotion. He put on his robe and opened the door to see a group of police officers standing outside.
The police showed their badges: "Someone reported prostitution happening here."
"What are you talking about?" This floor housed several directors and top agents. If this got out, how could he survive in the industry?
"There's not even a woman in my room."
"Whether there is or not, we'll know once we take a look inside."
The police pushed past him into the room.
From the living room to the bedroom, before they even walked in, they could see a woman lying on the bed with clothes scattered on the floor. Any adult could tell what had happened.
"This is what you call 'not even a woman in my room'?"
Cager panicked.
What was going on?
After Thalia and the others left last night, he had half a glass of wine and went to sleep. What was with the woman on the bed?
Did she appear out of thin air?
"I don't know why she's in my bed."
"That's funny. If you don't know, who does?" The police officer laughed coldly: "Get dressed and come with us."
"Come where? I said I don't know her, and I don't. Why would I lie to you? Shouldn't you be investigating how she got into my room? How did she get in?"
"First put on some clothes. Don't stand here yelling at us half-naked."
Only when the police pointed it out did Cager realize his robe had come undone.
The scene really did look depraved.
He put on clothes while enduring the police's scrutiny. When the officer saw the dense fresh scratch marks on his back, he found it somewhat amusing: "You say you don't know why she's in your bed, so how did you get these fresh scratches on your back?"
"This kind of thing can be easily verified."
For a moment, Cager had no response.
His first thought was that he'd been set up. But by whom?
Thalia?
This kind of degrading thing didn't seem like something a proud young lady from a wealthy family would do.
