Chapter 285 The Bond Of Blood
Chapter 285 The Bond Of Blood
Vera's POV
I raised an eyebrow slightly. Calling so affectionately?
I said, "Grandpa."
Bill replied with a happy "Yes," then paused for a few seconds before speaking, "Are you having any trouble at the company? Do you need Grandpa's help?"
I glanced at Atlas. He had already put down his chopsticks, clearly wanting to hear what the old man was up to.
I guessed Bill had probably heard something.
I said calmly, "Grandpa, not for now. I can handle it."
"Oh." Bill responded, and there was actually a hint of disappointment in his voice.
Seeing that he didn't seem to have anything else to say, I said, "Grandpa, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up now. I'll come visit you when I have time."
After saying that, I was about to hang up.
"Vera," Bill spoke urgently.
I brought the phone back to my ear.
Bill said, "Actually... Grandpa has heard about what happened at the company. Grandpa wants to say..."
"No matter what others say about you, Grandpa thinks you did the right thing, you did great."
"Your way of handling things was correct for Lumina Studios."
"But Grandpa is worried you're under too much pressure. I want you to think of Grandpa when you encounter difficulties. Grandpa will support you unconditionally."
"Do you... understand what I mean?"
Before this call from Bill, I had always felt that Bill was just someone who shared blood with me, nothing more.
My desire to return to the Grant family was also because I didn't want his fake granddaughter Ruby to benefit. But at this moment, I felt a trace of familial warmth. Perhaps, this is the bond of blood.
I paused and said, "Grandpa, this company... my father founded it for my mother back then, didn't he?"
Bill was stunned for a moment before replying, "Yes. Back then, your mother loved all kinds of beautiful films and art. Your father, to make her happy, specifically founded Lumina Studios, collecting stories from around the world to produce for her."
Something in my heart was touched. My parents had also been an enviable perfect couple, but because of my mother's early death, my father followed her.
If my mother was murdered, then whoever killed her deserved to die!
I said gently, "Grandpa, don't worry. I will definitely protect Silverstone Studios, to honor my parents' spirits."
"If I need help, I'll come to you."
"Okay, okay." Bill responded repeatedly, his voice somewhat choked up. I could hear him clearing his throat on the other end, trying to compose himself.
The old man's genuine emotion was unexpected, and I found myself gripping the phone a little tighter. Atlas watched me with concern, his eyes softening with understanding.
---
When I arrived at the company, Sage Anderson immediately came over with files, trying to curry favor. She smiled ingratiatingly: "Ms. Green, these are files from various departments. I've already organized everything for you to review."
I looked at the neat stack of files on my desk and casually flipped through them. I looked up at Sage. "You organized these?"
Sage's eyes flickered guiltily. "Of course."
I pulled out one of the thicker files and pointed to the key points marked with sticky notes. "This doesn't look like your handwriting."
Caught by me, Sage still refused to admit her mistake. "Ms. Green, this is my note. Are you mistaken?"
I gave her a cold look and slammed the folder heavily onto the desk. "Sage, do I look like an idiot to you?"
Sage said hastily. "No... no, the files were organized by Jenna, but I checked them several times carefully, so that's why I said I organized them."
I looked at her expressionlessly. "Sage, I don't care what you did before. In front of me, don't play tricks."
Sage quickly lowered her head and said: "Ms. Green, I'll never do it again."
"Get out!" I said coldly.
"Okay... okay." Sage responded and left my office.
I was seriously reviewing the files on my desk when suddenly there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." I said without looking up.
"Vera baby!" Ally's cheerful voice rang out at the door.
I looked up in surprise. "Ally, what brings you here?"
Ally looked at me and praised. "I heard you became CEO and took over the company, so I rushed over to cozy up to you."
I stood up and led Ally to sit on the sofa in the office. "It's just a half-dead company, don't tease me."
Ally raised an eyebrow at me. "I know you're playing the long game. If you pull this off, you'll be famous overnight."
I smiled. "Let's take it one step at a time."
Then I thought of something and couldn't help teasing. "What's going on between you and Felix?"
At the last party, I heard Ally was taken away by Felix. I'd been too busy to ask her about it.
Ally tossed her wavy curls and smiled ambiguously. "I slept with your brother."
My eyes widened. "Things moved that fast? So are you two now..."
"Just friends." Ally said.
"You know me, I'm anti-marriage. I've got issues with stable relationships too."
I knew her personality, so I didn't try to persuade her, just said with some regret, "Of my three supposed brothers, Nathan is blind as a bat, Eric is a naive fool. Only Felix is decent, what a shame."
