Although Jovannie understood the fact, she still couldn't control her tears.

She cried so much until she fell asleep in Luke's arms.

When he saw how pitiful she looked, Luke was distressed.

He kissed away her tears gently.

To Jovannie, her family was the most important. Even if a slight mention of them would break her heart.

And all he could do was to stay by her side and treat her better.

He promised her softly, "From now on, I'm your family too. We'll have lots of members in our family in the future. You won't be lonely anymore, nor will I let you suffer the loneliness."

The next day, a few neighbors came to visit Jovannie.

Most of the neighbors had been watching over her since she was young, so she had a good impression of them.

However, some kept glancing at Luke and implying that Jovannie had slept her way to the top.

With a face full of smiles, Jovannie politely asked the haters to leave her house.

While the rest of the neighbors complimented Luke as "a handsome young lad".

"Both of you are truly a perfect match!"

In fact, some of the neighbors knew that Jovannie was adopted by the Tucers.

However, a group of men in suits showed up at their houses a few days ago and gave them a lot of gifts. In addition, they had to sign a contract to bury the secret.

Luke didn't want Jovannie to learn about her true identity because he knew that she loved the Tucers couple very much.

As the saying went, "gifts blind the eyes", no one revealed a word about Jovannie's true identity.

Moreover, they had a juicy gossip to tell-the Beasleys had gotten themselves into trouble. Although it had been years, everyone still enjoyed the talk. After the death of Jonathan's son, the whole family returned to the town in disgrace.

Since then, Jonathan indulged in drinking and even beat his wife every day.

When he started to owe a lot of debt, he came up with a shameless idea of renting out his wife. After they were reported, the couple was sent to jail.

As for Jonathan's mother, she had died two years ago. It seemed that Jonathan stole his mother's saving to gamble. The old lady was so furious that she suffered a stroke. But the Beasleys were too poor to send her to the hospital, and she died in bed.

The people in this town were usually simple and honest. Thanks to Jonathan's incident, everyone had something to discuss with joy. They would even tell the story to outsiders.

However, they didn't Jovannie about this according to the agreement. Though they were confused, they could care less about it since they had received the money.

After sending her neighbors away, Jovannie took Luke around the town.

Some strolling later, she felt her waist and back aching.

Before she could say a word, Luke squatted in front of her and offered, "I'll carry you."

Jovannie only smiled. "It's fine. I just need some rest."

She led Luke to her favorite restaurant for lunch.

In the small restaurant.

"You have to taste it, Luke. It's really delicious!" Jovannie assured Luke.

"Okay."

Once the food was served, Jovannie ate with relish. But then she frowned and covered her mouth with a hand.

In an instant, Luke noticed that something was wrong. "What's wrong?"

Jovannie turned to the trash can and started throwing up.

Luke's expression changed drastically.

"What's the matter, Jovannie?"

Could it be that something was wrong with the food?

Jovannie shook her head and said, "I'm fine, Luke... I just feel sick all of a sudden. Don't worry..."

But Luke was still frowning. He was worried that Jovannie had suffered from food poisoning.

At the thought of this, Luke looked around the restaurant sternly.

If the problem truly lied on the food, he would never let this restaurant off easily.

Carrying Jovannie in his arms, Luke left the restaurant and headed for the hospital.

An hour later, the examination result was out.

The doctor told them, "It's not food poisoning."

Only then did Luke let out a sigh of relief.

The next second, the doctor added, "But... she's pregnant for two months."

As soon as the words fell, both Jovannie's and Luke's expressions changed.

What?

She was pregnant?

Jovannie stared at her abdomen in disbelief.

She touched her belly with trembling fingers.

Here...

There was a baby in here?

"But I... I had my period..." she stated shyly.

"Some women will still have her period during pregnancy, but the cases are few. Rest assured, you're in good health. All you need is sufficient rest and nutrition," the doctor explained patiently.

As he held Jovannie's hand tightly, Luke was speechless. He could only breathe heavily.
