Chapter 13

“Why is he calling?” my face morphed into a frown as I stood up to leave, then I turned to the Butler,

“You know what?” I began making him stop turning to me,

“You can share it with the staff.’ I said to him, then went upstairs, I could feel their ululated Cheer from my stance.

I took a deep breath then slid to the answer button, placing the phone in my ears, his hoarse voice suddenly said,

“How did you see my gifts?” My frown deepened the more. I have every reason to believe he sent that because of the contract on our way.

“Gifting isn't going to change anything,” I said to him, rolling my eyes.

“I just want us to be on the same page and get this contract together.” His voice says, as I got into my room, I was exhausted, I tossed my bag on the chair, then fell to the bed,

“That's impossible. Considering our history. I suggest we play fair.” I said to him, drawing the ‘’r’ in the fair. I took a deep breath, I was beginning to get uncomfortable with the call and just hadn't looked for any excuse to end this call. I then said,

“You shouldn't call this number again. I would really appreciate it if you don't.” I said then hung up on the phone. What or who does he think he is? The battle of my company's ownership is still to him, but I have to fight my way to get Anchor freight shipping back on track.

“Tha audacity.” I scoffed as I slowly took off my clothes then headed to the bathroom to take my shower and possibly come down for dinner.

By the time I was done with the shower, Amelia was back already. As I dressed in my pyjamas, the door opened and Berlin walked in, I hadn't seen her all day.

“Your dinner is served, ma'am.” She says to me,

“Thank you Berlin, I'll be down in a minute. Inform Amerlia, she gave a short nod and then walked out of the door, in less than five minutes, I was done. I head downstairs, to see Amelia already having her dinner,

“You couldn't wait again?”I tease her, taking my seat, she bursts into a small laughter and then tosses tickets to me

.

“What's that for?”

“For your journey?” it's not going to be easy to get a sponsor, for the company, and now that Audennis involved, I feel we should be a day ahead, “ I smiled as she spoke, then said to her,

“That's good.” I paused as the chef served me, then continued, “ I'll have Anita book the hotel for the short while I'll be staying there. It's safe to say that I am ready to leave by tomorrow.”

I sat down at the dining table, with Amelia already seated across from me. The smell of a delicious meal wafts through the air, my stomach rumbling in anticipation. She looks at me, her eyes full of concern and love.

"Are you alright, you seemed disturbed and I saw them Sharing some gifts earlier, saying it's from you?" she asks, her voice gentle and soothing. I nod, mustering a smile.

"I'm fine, it's just one of the other Auden tricks," I say, trying to sound convincing. She looks at me, not quite convinced. But she lets it go, starting to serve the meal. We both ate in silence and went to bed afterward.

…….

I woke up to see my bath already running, and dressed on the couch, I turned to see Berlin walk out of the bathroom, and she immediately gave a short nod, greeting me.

“Good Morning ma'am.”

I beamed then, got down, my box was ready and I had to dress up to beat my flight in two hours, I immediately sprang up to my feet, telling Berlin to leave my box in the car.

I rushed everything, I overslept, because I was up all night fixing my presentation and packing for today.

I stood in front of my closet, surveying the clothes within. For some reason, I wasn't satisfied with what Berlin had picked earlier, maybe I wasn't in the mood for the dress, so Still trying to decide what to wear for my flight, wanting to look presentable but also comfortable.

I select a simple yet stylish outfit, one that is easy to wear and will not wrinkle easily. I get dressed, putting on my clothes with care. I take a look in the mirror, making sure everything is in place. I smooth out my hair, take one last deep breath, and then I'm ready to go. I grab my bag and head out the door.

I make my way downstairs, eager to see Amelia. I can hear her laughter and conversation as I approach, and my heart warms at the sound she is probably on a call or something.

As soon as she saw me come down the stairs, she immediately hung up. I round the corner and see her seated as she stands up then walks to me forward, arms open wide, and I embrace her, feeling the love and support radiating from her.

I let her go, smiling as she greeted me with a kiss on the cheek.

"Ready to go?" she asks, taking my hand.

“Yes, I am,” I said. She walked me to the car and then watched the car drive off to the airport.

……

As I got to the airport, I wheeled my suitcase behind me as I entered the airport, the hustle and bustle immediately surrounding me. I take a deep breath, trying to take in the sights and sounds of the terminal.

People are rushing to and from their gates, carry-ons in tow, talking on their phones and checking their tickets. The airport is alive with activity, the energy almost palpable. I paid then was told my flight got delayed,

“Is there a way to start today, universe?” I cursed under my breath, all these running up and down was beginning to get to me as I was pressed Anita was still not here,

My eyes caught a coffee close to where I sat, I immediately took my heels, and as I went in and did my business, I was tempted to get one, but I was starving anyway.

I step through the door of the coffee shop, my mind on my to-go cup and the bag of pastries I'm carrying. I am so focused on getting to my gate, not noticing the man walking towards me.

Everything is happening so fast, that I barely had time to react. I'm just walking along, my mind elsewhere when suddenly my shoulder makes contact with someone else's. I felt the jolt, heard the exclamation of surprise, and I spun around to apologise. But I'm too late, the damage is already done.

The person I bumped into is now standing there, their face scrunched up in annoyance, their clothes stained with whatever I was carrying. I feel my face flush, my heart pounding in my chest.

What do I do now?
