Chapter 20 You are boring
Uriel's POV
I was so happy when I got a call last night from a lady that needed a babysitter for her 13 years old child.
She said someone referred me to her.
This was my first real outside world job.
I had planned to be very serious and dedicated to it.
At least, it wouldn't only keep me busy but aid me save for my college.
After mother had left for work, I told father about my movement and asked that he kept it a secret and that if mum asked, he should tell her that I went to a library to read.
Speaking about library, I got a mail that I had been removed from being an assistant.
Not surprising at all.
The only sad part about my suspension was that I couldn't participate in any test and if I missed any, that was it.
So, I only had exam to make it up.
It was tough.
My grades would drop badly.
Only a scholarship and probably saved up funds for a public university could help me.
Anyway, that aside.
As I stood by the hallway, staring at Ryder in the face, I began to reconsider my options.
Gosh
Whyyyyyyyy????
Okay, calm down Uriel. He may be here to deliver something to them.
Or fix something.
"Hey cuz!" Desire showed up beside me, smiling at her brother. "Have you met my new babysitter? She's so pretty!"
Ryders eyes moved slowly from my head to my toe, taking in all of me; scrutinizing me with those dark green eyes.
Then he scoffed.
"Pretty huh?" He scoffed. "You should listen to Juice Wrld more, you'd learn more about pretty girls, little cousin."
Who knew evil girl got the prettiest face.
I knew that line.
So, I was pretty to him at least?
Wait...
He called her his cousin?
They are cousins?
"I'll show you around the house." Ryder said, walking towards the door by the extreme end. "This is my room, it's off limit."
He pointed, his eyes hard as stone.
I choked on my saliva, coughing dramatically. He stood there, watching me with his arms folded.
When I caught my breath, I looked at the door. Slowly, I raised my hand up.
"This is your room? As in, you stay in this house?"
What? I just wanted to be clear.
"I'm sure you're not dumb." He rolled his eyes, moving to Desire's room door.
She already showed it to me.
But she didn't tell me she had a brother named Ryder Connell.
I am the victim!!!
"Desire's Room. Her mother's room. She's usually very busy and Desire no longer boards." His words were sharp.
Like he disliked what he was doing.
Or maybe, he was still pretty much mad at me.
Was there anytime Ryder wasn't mad though?
He moved downstairs without notifying me.
"Get down here, Uriel." He yelled after a while.
Oh.
"Thought you didn't want me following you." I said lowly.
He just stared at me for a while before walking away.
Oh God.
Sighing weakly, I followed him.
"You know what a television is and how it's operated. I'll skip that part." Then he disappeared into a corner.
He pushed his head out, glaring at me. "Jeez Uriel, keep up."
"You're not saying anything to me. You just move." I frowned, a bit irritated at his attitude.
When I entered the place I assumed was a kitchen because of the gas and all those kitchen things, I halted, watching him keenly.
"This is milk. Only for me and maybe Aunty Kari." He pulled out a pack, drinking directly from there mouth.
My eyes stayed fixated at the way his throat bobbed up and down.
God, he was so hot.
Slowly, he circled his tongue around his lips, making it glossy and glistening.
So kissable.
Ewww, girl.
Right.
Ew.
"Staring at someone for such amount of time is creepy as fuck. Weren't you taught not to stare?" He glared at me.
Yeah.
I was the problem.
He was mad at me.
Maybe we could talk about it and he'd believe me?
"Desire is lactose intolerant and she doesn't eat bean. Anything with bean." He spelt out. "She also has ulcer so ensure she eats and takes her medication."
I nodded in understanding.
"You can go do your job." He nodded at the door, his eyes bland.
"Uhhh... I think we need to talk?"
"No. You need to babysit. I need to eat and rest." He folded his arms, raising his eyebrow at me.
"You can't be mad at me without hearing my own side of the story, Ryder!" My voice was hard and high pitched.
"Okay, we're doing this." He scoffed, walking closer.
I refused to cower, standing my ground.
He can't intimidate me with his 6'1 height.
"That poem -"
"Was a mistake? You didn't write it? It just got into your bag? It was the wrong one?" He filled up, laughing scornfully. "Trust me, I know all these things.
At that point, I realized that nothing I was going to say was gonna make sense to him.
He took another step forward, making my heart beat rapidly. My chest rose and fell heavily. My eyes fluttered.
His hand found my chin, raising it up. "But I'm happy."
Huh?
"I'm happy I wasn't the bad person this time. You took the fall for me." He chuckled darkly, letting his hand fall.
He turned his back to me, his face turned to the side slightly.
"I didn't have anything to write about you because, trust me, you're a very boring person."
His words stabbed through my heart, making my breath hitch.
How dare he!
I swallowed hard, clenching my fist.
"Then... Then what was that paper? The one you gave me?"
He turned to me, his eyes dull. His face was blank and unreadable.
"It was blank. You would've been humiliated either ways." He scowled, taking a step forward again. "You'd be digging yourself a grave if you think I'm any better than the people tormenting you."
He was correct.
He didn't deserve to be ever out of my blacklist.
He trailed his fingers at the side of my face. My heart raced. My stomach knotting.
I pushed his hand away, eyeing him in disgust.
"Stay away from me, Uriel." His jaw tightened. He took a step backward. "I mean it. I wouldn't want to be seen associating with such a boring person like you."
He walked past me, brushing his shoulder against mine softly.
"You... You're not that interesting either!!!"
He halted, turning to me. Then he started walking towards me. His face red.
Oh shit!
