Chapter 21 Douchebag
Uriel's POV
I was still very much mad at Ryder.
How dare he call me a boring person?
I was a vibe!
People wanted me in their groups.
Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating.
But none of my friends had ever called me boring though.
So, it hurt.
I began to overthink so much that I concluded that I disliked him so much for messing with my mental health.
Just a Uriel hater.
"I'm done with my assignment and talking to my pa." Desire said, dumping herself on the couch.
Her parents were separated, from what I had learnt.
However, her father was still in touch with her despite having a new family.
She didn't like him much.
Reasons best known to her.
I didn't like to pry into family issues because I wouldn't want anyone to pry into mine either.
"So, what was it you said we were going to do today?" I asked her, sitting properly on the couch.
So far, she wasn't a tough child to babysit.
A typical teenager.
Talked about her school drama, boys and crushes most times.
One time, she asked me if I had a crush.
My head was fucking blank.
Somehow, my worse enemy just came to mind.
Yeah, I didn't have a crush but I had an archenemy
And it's your brother, sis.
I didn't tell her though.
I wouldn't want to lose my job yet. The pay was good.
"We're watching a scary movie." She jumped on the chair, turning on the television. "This is the only time I can watch the TV. Mum wouldn't let me once she's back. Something about getting 8 hours of sleep. Boringggg!"
I chuckled.
"She just care about you."
I wish mine cared about me.
"Yeah, I get but still." She rolled her eyes at no one in particular, scrolling through.
The front door opened, snapping our attention to it
"Shit, I forgot to lock it. Sorry, U." She pouted at me.
I nodded slowly, my eyes fixated on Ryder.
And a girl
Fuck, why did hurt to say?
He looked me in the eyes, his hands wrapped around her waist as he led her up the stairs.
I couldn't break away.
It was ... I don't know how I felt inside.
"It never gets old." Desire chuckled, relaxing her back on the couch.
I raised my eyebrow at her
"Huh?"
"Ryder? Different girls? He changes them like tampons." She shrugged nonchalantly. "Never repeats one girl. Poor penis."
"Jesus, Desire!" I scolded her, a bit embarrassed for her sake.
"What? I can't say penis?" She taunted, leaning closer
Laughing, I shook my head. "I don't think your mum would like that."
"My mum is not here." She pushed back, clicking on the remote. "It's starting!!!" She squealed.
Few minutes into the movie and she was crushing my hands. If I wasn't so mature, I would've cried.
I should've taken that as my sign though.
"Are you sure you want to continue with this?" I asked her.
She nodded, her eyes still on the television.
"O...okay?"
Scary movies didn't scare me like that.
Yeah, there were parts you didn't see coming
But it was just that 'woah' moment and that was all?
Just when I thought the scene was almost over, there was a jump scare part and Desire screamed, her high shrieked voice almost bursting my eardrums.
"God!" I turned to her, panic filling my face.
She was breathing raggedly. Her body trembling.
"Are...are you okay, Dee?" I held her hand. My heart was beating fast in my chest.
She wouldn't respond.
She just breathed through her mouth.
I think she was having a panic attack.
A full blown one
Gosh, I hadn't handled one before
Not thinking twice, I ran up the stairs until I got to the room I was forbade to go close to.
I had to.
I didn't want to spend my life in prison for killing someone's child who voluntarily engaged herself in a horror movie.
I banged my fist into his door. It was a miracle that it didn't break open.
Ryder pulled the door open with force, his eyes hard as they landed on me. "What the fuck?"
My eyes dropped down to brief. Then slowly, up to his naked torso.
Oh my freaking goodness!!!
This boy had only briefs on!
"Tell me when you're done checking me out, creep." He spat scornfully.
Realization snapped into me.
"Shit. Dee...Desire is having a panic attack and I don't know what to do." I told him quickly, my voice shaky.
His eyes snapped open with concern. He looked into the room, shook his head and brushed past me, running downstairs.
I followed him, standing by the corner.
He wrapped his arms around her softly, rocking her back and forth.
"It's fine, cuz. I'm here okay? Just breathe in. And out. Yeah, good girl." He cooed, brushing her hair with his hand. "That's it. You're good. You're fine."
Just like that, Desire was back to normal.
A shuddered breath left my lips.
This boy was so good at almost everything.
I had never seen a gentle part of him until now.
Or not
He stood up, frowning at me. "How could you let her watch a horror movie?"
"Huh?" My eyes fluttered.
Was he serious?
"She's allergic to that too?" I questioned, eyeing him up and down.
"Obviously, she's quick to panic!" He screamed in my face.
"How was I supposed to know that?" I cried out, my nose flaring up.
"I was the one that asked to watch it." Desire butted in but got shunned almost immediately.
"Stay out of this." He pointed at her, making her coil. Then he turned back to me, his gaze sharp. "You're just all talk and no brain, ain't you?"
"Excuse you?"
"You should've seen the signs but yet you ignored it and allowed her watch it still. Your job as a babysitter is to look after and not try to kill!" He took a step forward, making me take one backward.
"I ..."
"What if I wasn't here? You would've just panicked and let her die from a shock? How irresponsible can you be?" He continued to fire at me.
"If you can't do your fucking job then leave!"
Tears slipped down my cheek. His eyes shone in instant regret.
"Shit!" He placed his hand at the back of his head. "Uri..."
I turned away and bolted out of the door, furious.
My shoulders shook uncontrollably, my tears unending.
After a short while, I heard the door open.
Quickly, I scurried to hide behind the tall flower, covering my mouth to muffle my cries.
"Uriel!"
"We can talk things out. I'm... Just ... Fuck."
"I'm such a douchebag."
That, he was.
