Chapter 144 Take me home, Brandon

Chapter 144 Take me home, Brandon
Uriel's POV

Shelly was either not going to meet the game tonight or she was going to come in late for it.

That means I was going alone.

Bia sniffled, tossing the umpteenth tissue in the bin.

"Are you sure it's only this movie that's making you cry, Bia?" I turned to her, raising my eyebrow up at her.

She flipped me off, making me chuckle.

Her phone pinged from her bed. My eyes didn't miss as her eyes widened in horror, her body going stiff. Her hands trembled as she picked it up. When she raised her eyes to meet mine, I turned away, acting like I was searching for something.

Something was wrong with her. I didn't know how to make her talk but her weird behaviors never went unnoticed by me. Never.

She'll come around, my mind whispered.

"I'll be going out to pick Eve, Ryder's mum. She's my date for the game," yelling, I said. I bent down to tie my sneakers.

"Have f...fun." Bia stuttered.

I had reached the door, one leg in and the other out when I poked my head inside the room. "Bia?" She raised her head up. "I'm here if you ever want to talk,"

She doesn't blink, nor move.

Sighing, I walked out, shutting the door behind me.

I took a cab down to Eve's house, luckily, I still remembered the directions. My lips stretched into a big grin when my eyes met Eve in a sporty outfit.

On her was a denim short and a Lakers Jersey. She had this small baseball cap on her head and a white and black paint mark beneath her eyes.

"You look gorgeous!" Complimenting, I walked into her embrace.

"If I had fine legs like you, I'd have put on a skirt too. I love your outfit," her eyes sparkled.

"Is that a real camera?" I pointed at her hand. She nodded.

"I want to take every moment in here," She tossed her keys to me, nodding at me.

"I can drive?" Just to be extra sure, I asked.

"Yes! Come on, I need to get everything from the beginning," Eve hurried to the car like a teenager.

"Have you taken all your required medication?" I asked her, giving her a pointed look.

"It'll be an honor to die after my son scores, don't you think?" Eve smiled.

"Eve!"

"Sorry, sorry. We just usually joked like this in rehab. It was dark but those were the things that kept us alive in there," she shrugged. "Sorry again."

"It's fine. It's just sad, you know. You're such a wonderful person,"

"Don't bad things always happen to good people?" Her voice broke, her smile faltering.

I bit my lips, starting the engine.

I got to understand that this was her coping mechanism. She wasn't happy about it but she had come to understand that this was her life now.

Hopefully, she would be able to fulfill all she wanted.

"You could draft a To-Do list, you know," I spoke up after a long while.

"I was thinking about it. Though I lived life to the fullest in my youthful days but I'd like to do some things in this new generation," Eve's smile was back on her pretty face.

"When it's ready, just call me. We can do it together,"

She placed her hand on my shoulder. "You're like the daughter I always wished for. Thank you, Uriel."

After a while, we arrived at our destination. The stadium was filled with a lot of viewers, live streamers and reporters from far and wide.

"It's just like how I remember!" Eve pointed, raising her camera up to take pictures.

The announced starting of the game. We raced inside, giggling kike teenage girls as we pushed past the sea of persons. The hall was already filled up, but suddenly I saw a hand raised up in the air, waving at me.

"Brandon?" I whispered to myself. "Come on, Eve, I found space."

Eve and I quickly ran down. Luckily, there were two spaces which I was guessing was got Shelly and I.

"Hey!" I said to Brandon, sitting between him and Eve. She complimented his look and thanked him for keeping seat, unknown to her.

The game started seconds later, everyone cheering for their teams. My eyes met that of Ryder on the field. My lips lifted up into a smile first. He copied my actions, his eyes lighting up. Then his eyes moved to my side, shock evident as he saw his mother. He blew her a kiss, which she caught, chuckling.

Tough wasn't an underestimated term for what this game was. Our hearts were hanging on the line as the opposing team were rushing to meet us up, not allowing us to give them much gap.

At the last minute, Ryder shot a three pointer making the crowd go wild! We all jumped to our feet, screaming at the top of our lungs.

Ryder was surrounded by his teammates who were jumping on him. Coach shook his hand, stepping aside. Ryder was about to turn to our direction when Mirabel placed a peck on his cheek, hugging him tight.

"Oh shit," Brandon whispered beside me.

My blood ran cold.

"Uriel..."

"It's fine," I told Eve, staring at him, waiting for him to do something.

Instead, he just kept mute, his eyes empty when it met mine. Group of reporters crowded him soon after, pairing him with Mirabel who was just smiling like she had won a lottery. A smug smile curled on her lips as she stared at me.

She knew what she was doing.

"Are you still with Uriel?! Can you explain the kiss you guys just shared?!" The reporters roared in the air

"Calm down, Uriel,"

"Here's your key, Eve. I don't even know why I bothered myself," I spat scornfully, shoving past her.

"Uriel. Uriel, please wait up." Brandon ran after me, trying to meet up my pace.

I used the back of my hand to wipe my eyes, rushing fast. Someone brushed into me, making me groan, slowing my steps.

"Uriel," Brandon held my shoulder. "Come on, let me drop you home."

My lips quivered. My eyes darted to where Ryder stood, our eyes meeting. His face was straight, his glare fixated on Brandon.

Gritting, I said. "Take me home, Brandon."
