Chapter 137 Assistant Mirabel
Chapter 137 Assistant Mirabel
Uriel's POV
"You're such a bad friend!"
I stayed put with my head bowed to the ground
"You didn't even for once call to check up on me," Shelly pointed out, frowning
Still, I kept quiet.
I couldn't exactly defend myself by saying I was entirely busy.
"Why are you quiet? Say something!" She snapped
"You're right, Shelly. I was wrong but I wrote you letters," I said softly.
"Y...you did?" Her eyebrows perched up. I nodded.
"Though just twice,"
"That's enough for me," Shelly said almost immediately. "I hate checking the mail box. It brings bad news,"
"So sorry about that." Then I stretched my hand out, putting the big shopping bag in front. "Can this buy your forgiveness?"
She folded her arms, averting her eyes elsewhere.
"I really thought we were going to spend a part of summer together, you know?" Shelly spoke calmly.
"I'm sorry. But next time, I'm not leaving you out. This summer was just a lot," I pouted. "You're my closest friend in the world and I don't want to lose you, Shelly!"
"Now you're coming," Shelly chuckled, taking the bag from me.
School session had officially begun and the summer rendezvous chapter had officially been closed.
I was glad it all ended up on a happy note. I got to do everything I wanted. My father, Paul and I even went out to see an 80's movie... That's to show how good his walking had improved. Gina and I also spent some time together, cooking and catching on with our different lives. Apparently, she had this man she was seeing and according to her, he was a single father too and he made her happy.
Ryder on the other hand spent a good time with his mother, taking her for chemotherapy and all that. Those were really emotional times for him as he'd come back feeling down. But at least, he was there for her.
As for my real dad and I... Well, it was a work in progress. I had planned to visit him this weekend with Ryder. Maybe spend the weekend with him and his fianceé.
"Girl, you know me. That's all I can say. Thank you so much for these thoughtful gifts." Shelly smiled brightly at me.
"You're welcome babes,"
"Let me quickly lock up so we can get to class," Kathie shuffled around her dorm room, picking up her bags and other necessaries.
"I'll book an Uber," I said, bringing out my phone.
"Uhhh... Someone would be picking us up," Shelly's cheeks turned crimson red, her eyes averting elsewhere, avoiding mine.
"Shelly?"
"I'll fill you in later. Just act normal okay?" She told me. "And before I forget, my cousin is moving to our school in weeks time and I told him a lot about you. You'd be tutoring him."
"Why can't you tutor him," I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Because he's my cousin?" She said in duh tone, rolling her eyes. "He's so annoying okay?"
"So how are you sure he wouldn't annoy me too?"
"You have good tolerance for shitty behavior," Shelly smirked.
"Oh wow! I see what you did there," A soft laugh sailed from my lips. Shelly smiled grew wider. "Is that Landon? As in, the basketball crush Landon?" I whispered to Shelly as we both stared at the car driving to meet us
"Act normal, Uri. I'll tell you everything, I promise," Kathie said through gritted teeth, a weird smile on her face.
My lips folded into my mouth as I made we made our way to the car. Landon and I exchanged brief greetings once I entered.
I don't know if I was the one making things awkward or maybe I was just overthinking but everyone sat glued to their chair, holding in their breath like it was some dangerous weapon.
"Does the radio work?" I finally spoke, pointing at the car radio box.
"Yeah!" Landon said immediately, turning it on.
The minute the music blared from the speaker, everybody's chest heaved down. Landon and Shelly couldn't even hold eye contacts for one second.
God, was this new love?
I covered my mouth with my hand, giggling softly. When Landon's eyes raised up to the rearview mirror, I straightened my face.
After what seemed like forever, we arrived at school. Shelly and I parted ways because according to her, she had someone to do. Sorry, I mean something - yeah, something.
Was stupid written anywhere on my face?
I didn't argue though, but I ensured she knew I wasn't stupid but giving her a sly smirk.
After my first two classes, I strolled up to the Basketball Court to check up on my man. We had been texting all throughout classes. He passed by my class, signaling me to come out but Mr. Stewart wouldn't grant me permission to 'go pee'.
Cockblocker.
Wait - no. We weren't going to ...uh... You know. I just ... Urgh, nevermind. You wouldn't believe me anyway.
But Mr. Stewart was still a cockblocker.
"Finally!" Ryder jogged up to me, ignoring his teammates. He carried me up, my feet hanging on the air.
Soft melodious giggles erupted from my lips.
"I've missed you," we both simultaneously.
"You look very pretty today. How many contact did you obtain?" Ryder brought me down gently, his hands never leaving my waist.
"Maybe 100?" I joked, grinning like an idiot.
You can call me a simp. Whatever.
"Do I need to confiscate your phone?" One of his hand strolled up, holding my chin. "Hmm?" He leaned in, placing a soft kiss on my lips.
"Does that mean I get to have you all to myself every day of my life?" I muttered against his lips.
He winced, pulling back. "About that."
I raised my eyebrow at him, "what about that?"
"You know how I've been slacking with the game and all. First the operation thingy and then the rumor thingy..." He trailed.
"Yeah?"
"I'll be working extra for it. We'll be having our first game for the session soon and we need to restrategize," Ryder pushed my hair behind my ear, his eyes soft. "So I won't be too available for you,"
"Oh," my face fell.
"But! But... We can always make out time for each other. Maybe sundays and some nights? I'll come pick you up,"
It can't be that bad, I thought to myself.
"That's fine. As long as it's for a good cause, it's totally fine," I flashed him a genuine smile.
"Thank you, thank you. Don't worry, I'll make sure you don't even feel it like -"
"Connell!"
I groaned internally at the strict voice. You didn't need someone to tell you who it was because only one person had that type of annoying voice.
"Coach," Ryder slowly released me from his grip.
We both turned to face Coach. Beside him was a tall, beautiful girl with dirty blonde hair and well-fitted body structure - almost perfect. She looked me up and down, slowly, then flashed me a half-smile.
"Miss. Kennedy," Coach eyed me up and down. "Ryder would need all the concentration he can get this session,"
"You don't need to worry about that, Coach," I told him, biting back the sass that threatened to slip out.
"Oh I wasn't worried." He took the hand of the girl next to him. "Not when his agency had sent a professional who is going to ensure that he succeeds,"
I blinked my eyes at the girl who had this smug look on her face. Her eyes averted to Ryder - he wasn't looking surprised
"You must be the famous and multi-talented Ryder Connell. It's an honor to be working hand in hand with you," She smiled, stretching her hand. "I'm Mirabel Walter, your new certified professional assistant,"
My mouth dropped open, staring blankly between the both of them.
I scoffed afterwards, thinking Ryder was going to turn her down because he didn't need anyone to help him.
Until he stretched his hand out, holding hers.
My breath hitched, eyes bulging out.
"Nice to meet you, Mirabel,"
