CHAPTER 88

EVOLET

"Where are they?!" I searched, looking for both Mom and Derby.

Their scent was still fresh. I could tell I was getting closer to their location, but both of them where not on the same lane.

Derby's scent was closer than Mom's, so I headed for her direction first, hoping to get to her quickly before those creatures start whatever attack they are planning.

On getting to a tent filled with excited audience watching a dart game, I spotted Derby on the queue, getting ready to join the fun.

She was at the front, meaning it was her turn after the current players.

But with the problem on ground... "Derby!" I swam in and pulled her away.

"NO! Why did you do that?!" she screamed, trying to get back to the line.

I managed to take her away from that place to a corner, where I calmed her mood and told her the situation we're about to face.

"Something bad is about to happen. We need to find Mom quickly!" I warned, hovering my eyes around to see if I'd spot my mother.

But the only thing obstructing my smell was those creatures. And not just that, I could see some, mostly men, with the same pale skin like that lady, walking into some kind of formation.

"This isn't good," I muttered, following their movement with my eyes.

"Come on, Eve. We are not in Wolf Fall. That's the only place bad things can happen to us," Derby joked, referring to Fiona and the Alpha.

"Just relax and enjoy yourself."

"No, Derby. I'm serious!" I said, grabbing her by the arm. "I saw something different from us. It's not just one but many."

With the seriousness in my voice, Derby was beginning to listen. She looked troubled and said, "I think I know where your Mom is."

"Great, let's go."

Quickly, we both moved into the crowds, tracing my mother. We arrived at the spot Derby said she saw her, but we didn't find her there.

"This is where I last saw her," she pointed, sniffing the air to try and locate her.

I was a step ahead of her, and in a swift... "I know where she is."

"Huh?" Derby sounded confused, looking at me.

Quickly, I held her hand and moved into the multitude, following my mother's scent.

"Evolet, you're going the wrong way! Her scent is coming from the other..." Before Derby could finish her statement, we came out in front of a snack store and found Mom glaring at a paled skin man, just like that lady!

"Wow, you were right," Derby uttered to me in astonishment. But I was more concerned about my mother, who had a little child in her hold, confronting this man.

It was clear that something was going on.

"What did you do to this boy?!" Mom questioned, shielding the little one from the stranger.

The man said nothing but glared back at my mother, with his hand moving to the back cunningly.

Seeing this, I immediately stepped forward and called out to my mother, drawing closer to them. "What's going on?" I asked, looking at this man before us.

And just when my mother was about to speak, the man walked away, mixing himself into the crowds.

"Hey! Get back here!" Mom yelled, almost going after him.

I held her shoulder at once, stopping her from going anywhere near those things.

"That man was taking this child somewhere into that quiet spot!" she said, pointing at a dark alley not too far from the fair.

"I felt something was strange and held this child back. He looks lost," Mom said, turning the child over, so we would see.

Looking at the boy, I saw that he was completely zoned out. It's like he was lost in a subconscious state!

"That creep did something," Mom accused, looking back into the crowds to find the man.

"I think we should find his parents. Maybe they know what is wrong with him," Derby suggested, looking around.

But in my case, I could tell that the stranger really did something to this child.

Mom was right.

Having no time to waste... "It'll just be a little. I won't take it off completely." I unhooked my wolf halfway secretly and touched the little one's head.

Feeling my wolf energy flowing , I muttered, "Release."

Instantly, the child broke out from the spell he was under, looking confused.

"Who are you?" He asked me, looking around to find his parents. "Mom? Dad?"

Quickly, I hooked the wolf back on the necklace back properly and said to the boy, "I'm a friend. We saw you wandering off and stopped to help. Do you remember where your parents are?"

"Oh my! He's talking," Mom gasped, looking stunned.

They both wondered how I got the child back to his senses, but I covered that by telling the boy to lead the way.

As he took the lead, I looked at my Mom and said, "There's a problem. The pack..." I paused, looking around before talking, "The pack is going to be attacked."

"What?!" Both Mom and Derby exclaimed, finding this strange.

"I know it sounds weird, but it's the truth."

The boy found his parents, giving us the chance to move.

"What brought about this tale, Eve? Did you see something or walk into a secret gathering by accident?" Mom asked in doubt, following me from behind.

Derby responded, "I think it's the second option. She said she saw something different from us."

"Different? Like what?"

All of a sudden, the speakers around the fair came on. A female voice began humming a strange tone, causing everyone around to wonder who it was.

When she began speaking, I immediately recognized the owner.

"It's her," I said, looking around to find her location, but I couldn't.

She spoke through the speakers, talking to everyone present at the fair. "Thank you for visiting the fair. Your gathering tonight will not go in vain... You will all be remembered by your kind, for your lovely sacrifice... That is if any werewolf would survive another year when i'm around."

"Is this part of the show?" Mom wondered, finding this displeasing.

She wasn't the only one with that same thought. The people around took it as a thrilling live performance taking place.

When I looked around, squinting my eyes to get a glimpse of the area, I saw that the paled group had succeeded in forming a formation around the fair!

They have us all in their circle just as I suspected!

"Tonight... We begin our harvest. We shall leave no wolf behind. No one!" The lady echoed loudly.

And out of nowhere, someone screamed out in horror, pointing at the sky!

When we looked, we saw a group of flying creatures coming down at us from the dark night, grabbing individuals into the night! They looked like human's but with bat wings! And their eyes... "Vampires?" Mom gasped out, recognizing the creatures.

Now I understood why their aura smelt off to me. It was giving the stench of blood!

"Let's get out of here!" Derby screamed, grabbing my mother and I by the hand, making a run through the terrified crowd, who were trying to fight off this bats.

I looked around and saw how hard it was for the people to fight these vampires without getting swooped into the air with speed or tossed into different tents with force.

The sight of this chaos got to me, and I felt that desire to do something.

"Shit! They made a barrier!" Mom pointed out to the vampires that formed a circle, caging everyone in their middle.

We saw a group of people making an attempt to knock them down, but when they got close, something pushed them back into from the chain the vampires formed.

The mouths of these paled skin men were moving at the same time. It seems they were making an incantation which prevented the people from breaking out of their cage.

And when I saw this, I pulled myself out of Derby's grip and charged ahead.

"Evolet, what are you doing?!" My Mom yelled from behind, trying to protect me from the vampires that came sweeping down to grab their victims.

Without taking the wolf off my necklace, I got closer to this vampire chain with a positioned fist and punched one of the paled skin fellow right out of the circle with my strength!

With force, he tumbled off, breaking the circle, and causing a disrupt for the others.

That gave the people the chance to fight their way through, trampling on the vampires in their path.

"Come on!" I yelled at Mom and Derby who saw what I did. They were a bit lost but couldn't utter a word.

I took hold of their hands and dashed ahead, looking for a safe place to keep them both, while I handle this problem myself.

It's the only way to save this people from the vampires.

I have to step in.
