Chapter 158 up
The fortress of the northern territories was quieter than usual that night.
Most of the warriors had already retired after a long day of border patrols. The corridors of the mountain stronghold echoed faintly with distant footsteps and the low hum of generators powering the communication systems.
But inside the command chamber, the lights were still burning.
Kael stood at the center table, arms folded, staring at the map of the world spread across the display.
Torren leaned against a nearby pillar, watching him with mild curiosity.
“You’ve been standing there for twenty minutes,” Torren said casually.
Kael didn’t respond immediately.
He was still thinking about Stormridge.
About how close everything had come to exploding.
Five seconds.
If he and Lyra had arrived five seconds later…
The war might already have begun.
Torren pushed himself off the pillar.
“So,” he continued, “are you planning to stare the problem to death, or are we waiting for something?”
As if answering his question, the heavy door of the chamber opened.
Three figures entered.
Rhea.
Dalen.
Miraen.
Their clothes were dusty from travel, their expressions serious.
Torren raised an eyebrow.
“Well,” he said lightly, “looks like the ghosts came back.”
Kael stepped forward immediately.
“What did you find?”
Rhea didn’t waste time.
“A lot.”
She placed a small recording device on the table.
“This will explain most of it.”
Miraen activated the device.
The room filled with the recorded voices from the abandoned outpost.
“…the pack system must collapse…”
“…the wolves are already divided…”
“…the Eclipse Order will rebuild the world…”
The recording continued for several minutes.
No one spoke while it played.
By the time it ended, the atmosphere in the room had changed completely.
Torren slowly rubbed his jaw.
“Well,” he muttered, “that’s… bad.”
Kael remained silent for a moment.
Then he looked up at Rhea.
“The Eclipse Order.”
Rhea nodded.
“They’re real.”
Dalen stepped forward.
“And they’re behind the provocations.”
He pointed to the map.
“The attacks. The propaganda. The false symbols.”
“All part of the same strategy.”
Miraen added quietly,
“They want the Alliance and the independents to destroy each other.”
Torren whistled softly.
“That’s ambitious.”
Kael’s gaze hardened slightly.
“They want the entire pack system to collapse.”
Rhea nodded.
“That’s their goal.”
The room fell silent again.
Because the implications were enormous.
Torren finally broke the silence.
“So,” he said, spreading his hands, “we’ve identified the villains.”
“Now what?”
Kael didn’t answer immediately.
Instead he looked at the recording device again.
“The Eclipse Order.”
Torren scratched his head.
“You realize something, right?”
Kael looked at him.
“If we tell the world about this…”
Torren gestured around the room.
“Half the packs will think we’ve lost our minds.”
Rhea nodded.
“He’s right.”
Kael frowned slightly.
“Explain.”
Dalen spoke this time.
“The Eclipse Order is basically a legend.”
Kael crossed his arms.
“I know the stories.”
“But that’s exactly the problem,” Miraen said.
She tapped the map lightly.
“Most wolves think the Order was destroyed centuries ago.”
Rhea added,
“If we suddenly announce that they’re secretly manipulating the entire world…”
Torren finished the sentence.
“People will assume we’re lying.”
Kael’s expression darkened slightly.
“Why would they think that?”
Torren shrugged.
“Politics.”
He walked toward the map.
“Right now, the Alliance and the independent territories already distrust each other.”
He pointed toward the Alliance regions.
“If you stand up tomorrow and say: ‘Hey everyone, there’s actually a secret ancient conspiracy behind everything’…”
He shrugged again.
“Most packs will assume it’s propaganda.”
Rhea nodded.
“Especially the ones already leaning toward war.”
Dalen added,
“They’ll think Kael invented the story to avoid responsibility for the attacks.”
Torren smirked slightly.
“And the Alliance might think the same.”
Kael remained silent.
Because he knew they were right.
The werewolf world was already tense.
Already divided.
Trust was fragile.
Introducing a secret enemy that most wolves believed was fictional might only make things worse.
Miraen looked thoughtful.
“There’s another problem.”
Kael glanced at her.
“What?”
She folded her arms.
“If the Eclipse Order has infiltrated territories…”
“Then they probably have agents inside some packs.”
Torren’s smile faded slightly.
“Oh.”
Rhea nodded.
“Which means if we announce this publicly…”
“…they’ll know we’re onto them.”
Dalen continued the thought.
“And they’ll disappear.”
Miraen added,
“Or accelerate their plans.”
The room fell quiet again.
Kael turned back toward the map.
The problem had become far more complicated than he had expected.
They now knew the truth.
But that truth was dangerous.
Not just because of the Eclipse Order.
But because of how the world might react to it.
Torren sighed.
“So we’re stuck.”
Kael glanced at him.
“Explain.”
Torren pointed at the map again.
“If we say nothing, the Eclipse Order keeps manipulating events.”
Kael nodded.
“And if we say something?”
Torren shrugged.
“The world might not believe us.”
Rhea spoke quietly.
“And the conspirators vanish.”
Dalen added,
“Or provoke an even bigger incident to keep the war moving.”
Kael slowly exhaled.
They had uncovered the hidden enemy.
But revealing that enemy might make the situation even worse.
Miraen looked toward Kael.
“So what do we do?”
Kael remained silent for several seconds.
His mind was already turning through possibilities.
Political consequences.
Military risks.
Public reaction.
Finally he spoke.
“We investigate further.”
Torren groaned slightly.
“I had a feeling you’d say that.”
Kael continued calmly.
“We need proof.”
Rhea nodded.
“The recording isn’t enough.”
Dalen added,
“We need evidence that directly connects the Eclipse Order to the attacks.”
Miraen crossed her arms.
“Something undeniable.”
Kael nodded.
“Yes.”
Torren sighed again.
“And while we’re gathering evidence…”
He gestured toward the map.
“…the world keeps moving closer to war.”
Kael didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
Torren rubbed his temples.
“This just keeps getting better.”
Rhea stepped closer to the table.
“There’s another issue.”
Kael looked at her.
“What?”
She hesitated slightly.
“Lyra.”
The name hung in the air.
Torren glanced at Kael.
“Oh yeah.”
“That.”
Kael’s expression didn’t change, but his eyes hardened slightly.
Rhea continued.
“If the Eclipse Order is manipulating both factions…”
“Then the Alliance is just as much a target as we are.”
Miraen nodded.
“Lyra should know.”
Torren folded his arms.
“But if Kael contacts her directly…”
Dalen finished the thought.
“…some Alphas will assume collusion.”
Torren added dryly,
“Or betrayal.”
Kael looked down at the map.
The political situation was a maze.
One wrong move could ignite the war the Eclipse Order wanted.
Rhea spoke quietly.
“The truth exists.”
“But the world isn’t ready to hear it.”
Torren gave a small humorless laugh.
“Great.”
“So we’ve discovered a conspiracy that’s too dangerous to reveal.”
Miraen shook her head slowly.
“Not too dangerous.”
“Too unbelievable.”
Kael finally spoke again.
“For now… the truth stays here.”
Torren raised an eyebrow.
“Classified?”
Kael nodded.
“Yes.”
Rhea looked at him carefully.
“And Lyra?”
Kael hesitated.
Only briefly.
Then he answered.
“She’ll learn the truth.”
Torren smirked slightly.
“Secret message again?”
Kael didn’t reply.
But his silence was answer enough.
The room grew quiet.
Outside the fortress, the night wind swept across the mountains.
Somewhere far away, the Eclipse Order continued preparing its next move.
They believed the werewolf world was blind.
That the leaders of both factions were trapped in rivalry.
They believed their secret was safe.
What they didn’t know yet—
Was that someone had already uncovered the truth.
A truth so dangerous…
It couldn’t be revealed to the world.
Not yet.
