Chapter 44 Happy ending
Chapter 44 Happy ending
Episode 44 : Happy ending.
...
The news was exploding. The fact that Matthias De Grayson had apparently gotten married was spreading like wildfire but the shocking part wasn't the marriage itself. It was the woman he had married. Not the woman everyone had expected. Not one of the socialites constantly surrounding him. Not a famous heiress. Not a woman from an influential family. Just an ordinary woman whose face had yet to be revealed to the public.
Rumors from Grayson Corporation spread rapidly... Employees talked, assistants talked, executives talked and before long, the media had picked up the story and was broadcasting it everywhere.
Meanwhile, the two people at the center of the gossip were sitting in a hospital.
Luna had only suffered a cut on her neck. The injury was minor, and after receiving treatment, she was already fine.
Matthias, however, was a different story. The knife wound in his hand had been deep enough to require several stitches.
"Honestly, I don't understand him." The doctor shook his head while removing his gloves. "With a wound like that, he should be in pain, and yet he's been smiling the entire time."
"His face has even been red ever since he arrived." The doctor looked genuinely baffled. "The wound is quite serious too. It should hurt a lot."
"How strange." After finishing the treatment, the doctor stepped out of the room.
The moment he did, a woman rushed toward him. "Doctor!" Luna stopped in front of him, her face full of anxiety. "How is my husband?"
"He's okay, right? His hand won't get infected, will it? It won't become so serious that he needs an amputation, right? Please answer me, Doctor..." Her voice trembled. She looked so worried that she seemed close to tears.
The doctor stared at her. Then blinked.. then blinked again and his eyes slowly widened. "My husband." The phrase echoed inside his head and suddenly everything made sense.
Click.
It felt as though a light bulb had turned on above his head. So that was it. That was why Matthias had been smiling despite being injured. That was why the man looked happier than most healthy people.
The doctor nearly laughed. "A man in love really is impossible to predict." He muttered the words under his breath before turning back to Luna.
"He's perfectly fine. The wound isn't infected. And he can go home immediately after this." Before the doctor could even finish speaking... Luna was already gone. She rushed into the treatment room as fast as she could.
"Thank goodness!" The moment she entered, she ran straight toward Matthias. "I was worried your hand might get infected and you'd need an amputation!"
"And why did you throw yourself at me like that? Your hand got stabbed because of me!" Without hesitation, Luna wrapped her arms around her husband.
Matthias, who had been sitting on the hospital bed, froze... His eyes widened and his heartbeat immediately went wild.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
'She hugged me.'
'She actually hugged me on her own.'
'Oh my God.'
'OH MY GOD.'
'THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!' Matthias was practically celebrating inside his head. His cheeks instantly turned red again as Luna continued hugging him tightly.
"Babe, this injury is nothing." His lips curved upward. "I'd throw myself into anything for you."
"Hmmm..." He even laughed softly.
Luna immediately frowned. She loosened her embrace and stared at him seriously. "Are you flirting with me right now?"
"At a time like this? When I'm genuinely worried about you? And you're laughing?"
"Huh?" Luna felt her husband was being unbelievably strange.
His hand had literally been stabbed. Yet somehow he was still finding opportunities to flirt.
"Pffft..." Matthias laughed even harder.
Slowly, he lifted his uninjured hand and gently stroked Luna's face. His touch was unbelievably soft. As though she were something precious.
Then he hooked a finger beneath her chin and tilted her face upward, bringing their faces close... Close enough to feel each other's breath.
"Babe..." His eyes softened. "I'm going to flirt with you for the rest of my life."
"You should start getting used to it." His smile grew wider. "Especially after you returned my confession."
"How could I possibly feel pain in my hand anymore after hearing that? The only thing I feel right now is happiness." His gaze lingered on her face. "I can finally see my future."
"I can finally imagine growing old happily, because you'll be beside me." His voice turned quieter and warmer. "How could I not laugh after realizing that?"
"Hmmm?" Matthias smiled so brightly. A smile that looked almost boyish. A smile Luna had never seen before. He looked at her round eyes as if they were the most beautiful thing in the world.
"Huh?" Luna felt her own heartbeat quicken. "My heart is racing because of you too." She lowered her gaze for a moment before looking back at him. "I felt the same thing when you came to save me." Her voice softened.
"I felt like I had finally found the right person."
"The person I was supposed to be with." For a moment, the room fell silent... The kind that made both of their hearts feel full.
Then Luna suddenly remembered something. "But, babe..." She looked at him with those wide, innocent eyes that Matthias found unbearably adorable.
"I think our lives will be incredibly happy if you grant me one request." A mischievous smile appeared on her face. One that immediately made Matthias curious.
"I'll become the sweetest and most obedient wife in the entire world if you do what I ask." Luna had finally made up her mind. There was still one problem she had never managed to solve. One injustice that remained unresolved and she was certain... With the power and influence Matthias possessed... He could help her put an end to it.
"Hmm?" Matthias tilted his head slightly, his gaze fixed on his wife's lips, which he had been wanting to kiss for quite some time now. "What kind of request could possibly make you determined to become the sweetest, most obedient wife in the world?"
Luna immediately sat up straighter. The moment he asked, her expression turned serious. "Please find out who really killed my grandma." Her voice trembled slightly.
"Clear your wife's name."
"I wasn't guilty, but I was the one who went to prison." Her eyes slowly reddened again. "Then..." She paused briefly before continuing. "I want to expose that woman's affair with my dad's lawyer, and..."
"Umm..." Luna lowered her head for a moment. "My dad's inheritance..."
"I have to take it back from them. I've already been patient long enough." She clenched her hands. "If you help me, this can probably be resolved in a single day, right?" The words came out quickly. Her emotions were still fragile after everything that had happened and before she realized it, tears had begun gathering in her eyes again. She wasn't just asking for help. She was finally telling someone how unfair her life had been.
How much she had lost and how much she had endured.
"Babe." Matthias let out a soft sigh. "Who exactly do you think I am?" His voice was warm and gentle. "You don't have to cry while asking me for something like that."
"As you said, I can resolve all of this in a single day."
Luna blinked, then immediately looked up at him and hope flickered across her face.
"But after that..." Matthias reached over and gently pinched her cheek. A smile appeared on his lips. "I want you to grant one request of mine too." The moment he said that, Luna nodded enthusiastically.
"Okay!" She agreed almost instantly. Her bright reaction made Matthias chuckle.
Meanwhile, Luna's eyes followed every movement as Matthias picked up his phone and called his assistant — Frankenstein.
The man was already busy dealing with Valery and the people involved in the kidnapping. With the evidence they had gathered, sending Valery to prison would be incredibly easy.
The call connected.
"Hello, Sir?" Frank sounded exhausted. Today had been absolute chaos. Still, he knew a huge bonus was waiting for him afterward.
"I have another task for you." Matthias leaned back in his chair. "You already have all of Luna's investigation files."
"I don't think this will be difficult." His expression turned cold. "Reopen the case involving her grandmother's death."
"Submit every piece of evidence your investigators have gathered. Contact my lawyer and have him handle the legal side. And expose that older woman's affair with the lawyer." His voice grew sharper. "This case needs to be resolved immediately."
"My wife's name must be cleared as quickly as possible." The investigation Matthias had conducted on Luna made everything much easier.
Long ago, while investigating Luna's background, he had already discovered the affair between her stepmother and the lawyer.
Back then, he simply hadn't cared.
Now it was different. Now it involved his wife. And anyone who had hurt Luna would pay the price.
Frank quickly agreed, after confirming the details, the call ended.
"Done." Matthias casually placed his phone back on the table.
Across from him, Luna stared at him blankly. Then a smile slowly spread across her face. "Maybe I should've asked you for help from the beginning if it was going to be this easy..." Her voice was soft almost dazed... Meeting him really had changed everything.
"Meeting you truly was a miracle." The words left her lips naturally, and the moment Matthias heard them — He froze.
His heartbeat instantly accelerated.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
His throat suddenly felt dry, he swallowed hard. "Babe..." A slow smile appeared on his face.
A dangerous smile... A mischievous smile... One that instantly made Luna nervous.
Matthias reached for her chin and gently lifted it. Their faces drew closer and closer... Until barely any distance remained between them. "You've been tempting me this entire time." His voice dropped lower and smoother. "Are you prepared for the consequences?"
Luna's eyes widened. "W-What consequences?"
Matthias's smile deepened. "And now... I think it's time I tell you my request." He leaned closer... Close enough that his breath brushed against her skin. The playful thoughts he had been suppressing all day immediately surfaced again.
"After your neck heals... And considering my hand probably won't be fully healed yet..." His gaze lingered on her face.
"So I want to save that particular activity for later." His voice was calm which somehow made it even worse. "I'll wait patiently."
The moment Luna understood what he meant... Her entire face turned crimson — bright red.
From her cheeks all the way to her ears, she couldn't believe it.
After everything that had happened today, her husband was still thinking about that.
"W-WHAT?!" Luna immediately tried to retreat, but before she could escape Matthias caught her wrist effortlessly. And before she could protest another word — He pulled her closer and kissed her.
A deep, hungry kiss.
One he had been holding back ever since seeing her again. Ever since he realized he almost lost her. Ever since he heard her return his feelings. He had wanted to kiss her for a long time now.
...
More than two weeks later...
The news had only grown more explosive. Valery had received a severe sentence, and even her father had been unable to save her. What she had done had crossed every imaginable line.
At the same time, Frankenstein's private investigators had easily recovered security footage from Luna's house. The footage clearly showed Aunt Jil placing poison into Luna's grandmother's food.
From that evidence, investigators uncovered that Debora had orchestrated the entire plan. The investigation also revealed that Diana, Sean, and Luna's father's lawyer, Gale, had all known about it. Afterward, because it was determined to be a premeditated murder, Debora and Aunt Jil were sentenced to life imprisonment. Everyone who had known about the crime and concealed it received twenty-year prison sentences without parole.
Gale's affair was exposed as well. His family immediately withdrew their support. They were deeply disappointed in him for having an affair and conspiring to seize Luna's father's inheritance.
"How could this happen?!" Debora screamed. Her hair was disheveled, and her eyes were bloodshot. "Everything was perfect!"
"Everything was already perfect!"
"How was my plan discovered?!" She slammed her fists against the bars of her cell but no one cared anymore. She was already behind bars and she would remain there for the rest of her life.
Meanwhile, Diana had fallen into severe depression.
Her mind was no longer functioning properly. "Everything was fine when Luna was in prison!"
"She really is bad luck! She's the reason all of this happened!" Diana screamed hysterically.
"Luna!"
"I hate you!"
"I hate you until the day I die!" She couldn't accept it. The peaceful and comfortable life she had enjoyed for the past two years had shattered overnight. She never realized that everything she had obtained had been built on lies and betrayal from the very beginning.
And Sean... There was nothing left for him to do. He simply accepted his fate. The guilt inside him had become too heavy. He couldn't defend himself anymore. This had been the greatest mistake of his life — Cheating on Luna. Conspiring with his wife and mother-in-law. Destroying the woman who had once sincerely loved him.
Now his life had collapsed in an instant and he could only watch it happen.
...
Elsewhere, at Matthias's residence...
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Luna's heart pounded wildly as she stared at the pregnancy test she had just bought. Her hands trembled slightly.
Lately, she and Matthias had been doing that far too often... So often that she had started developing a strange feeling. A feeling she couldn't explain.
Somehow, her intuition kept telling her the same thing. That she was pregnant and sure enough...
"Waaaah!" Luna let out a small scream and rushed into the bedroom.
Matthias, who was sitting on the bed waiting for his wife to finish cleaning up, immediately looked over. "Hm?"
"What's wrong, sweetheart?"
"Why are you screaming like that?" Naturally, they had just done it again not long ago. And honestly, Matthias never got tired of it — Never bored... Never exhausted. If it were up to him, he would happily spend every day doing it with his wife.
Luna stopped in front of him, her face was flushed, her eyes were wide and she looked completely overwhelmed.
"I..." She swallowed. Then held up the pregnancy test. "I'm pregnant." The words left her mouth softly.
For a brief moment, Matthias froze then his eyes widened. And... A proud smile slowly spread across his face.
"Haaaah!" He leaned back proudly.
"Of course." His grin grew wider. "Because I'm Matthias." "Even my seeds are superior."
"HAHAHAHA!" He laughed triumphantly.
"See?"
"My wife got pregnant immediately!" His chest puffed out with pride. He looked ridiculously pleased with himself.
Every shot had clearly not been wasted and now there was a baby to prove it.
"So we're really going to get divorced later, babe?" Luna walked toward the bed, already feeling exhausted and ready to sleep. "You said we'd get divorced after I gave birth."
"HUH?!" Matthias's eyes widened. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!"
"WE'RE NOT GETTING DIVORCED!"
"NEVER!" He immediately reached for a drawer beside the bed.
Inside was the divorce agreement they had signed before. Without hesitation, he pulled it out and shoved it into Luna's hands. "My hand is still healing." His expression was deadly serious. "Please tear that up for me, babe." Matthias handed the papers to his wife, who had already settled beside him on the bed.
"Hmm?" Luna raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure?" A mischievous smile appeared on her face. She wanted to tease him a little but the moment she met her husband's sharp stare, she immediately gave up.
Her playful expression vanished at once. "Okay, okay."
"I'll tear it up." She clicked her tongue. "Why are you getting angry so quickly?"
"You're acting like a pregnant wife with cravings." Luna grumbled while tearing apart the divorce agreement she had signed without realizing it back then.
Rip. Rip. Rip.
The papers were reduced to pieces.
"Hehe..." The moment Matthias saw the agreement destroyed, a satisfied smile appeared on his face. Then he immediately opened his arms.
"Come here."
"Hug me." He looked absurdly happy. Like a child who had just received his favorite gift.
"Hmph!" Luna couldn't help smiling.
Of course she immediately moved into his embrace. The two of them lay down together on the bed. Wrapped in each other's arms.
"So..." Luna closed her eyes against his chest. "We're going to stay together forever?" Matthias didn't even hesitate.
"Of course."
"We'll stay together forever."
"We'll remain husband and wife until death separates us." His voice was calm and certain. As though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Then he suddenly sighed. "Now that I think about it..."
"Maybe we should have another wedding ceremony." His brows furrowed. "But I don't want you getting exhausted because of all the preparations. Especially now that you're pregnant."
"I don't want my pregnant wife tiring herself out." He gently stroked her hair. "But at the same time..."
"I want to repeat our vows properly." Matthias let out another long sigh. He truly wanted to marry Luna again.
To give her the wedding she deserved, but considering her condition, it seemed that plan would have to wait.
"Hmm..." Luna slowly lifted her head. She looked at her husband, who appeared genuinely serious while thinking about it... A warm smile spread across her face.
"I'm already happy with what I have now." Her voice was soft and gentle. "I have a husband who loves me."
"I have a home to come back to, and soon... I'll have a baby." Her eyes grew moist. "This was always my dream."
"You've already given me everything."
"So a second wedding isn't necessary." Then she smiled again. "But if you're really determined to do it... We can take it slowly."
"When the time is right, it'll happen." Her words made Matthias feel absurdly proud. As if his happiness had finally become complete. He no longer cared about anything happening outside. As long as his wife remained beside him — That was enough.
"Tomorrow..." He lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "Let's visit my mom's grave."
"She'll be happy to hear you're pregnant. After that, we'll visit your family too."
"We should share this good news with them." Matthias wrapped his arms around Luna even tighter. Holding her close. As though he never intended to let go again.
Truly... Luna had believed her life ended the moment she went to prison but she had been completely wrong.
The universe had its own way of revealing the truth... Its own way of bringing together two people who perfectly completed each other.
The happiness they shared. The love that had begun the day they first met would continue to bloom. Like an endless spring that never faded.
Matthias De Grayson... The man who believed he would never marry. The man who never believed in love. Had found Luna Sharon. A woman who once believed her life would never have a happy ending.
Together, they completed what the other lacked and the bond of their marriage would become stronger than anything they had ever known.

Author's Note
Hello everyone! 💙
First of all, I want to thank all of you for reading this story until the very end.
I also want to apologize if this novel still has many flaws. To be honest, I personally feel that this is one of my worst novels. The vibe ended up being too similar to one of my previous books, and that made me feel like I had failed to create something truly fresh.
Because of those feelings, I even took a one-month hiatus from this book.
However, I didn't want to leave the story unfinished or make you wait any longer, so I decided to keep writing and bring it to a proper ending.
Thank you for staying with me despite all the imperfections. I hope you enjoyed the light-hearted conflicts, the characters, and the journey we shared together. 🥹💙
And before you go, please don't forget to check out my new werewolf novel:
The Lycan King's Human Bride
I would be so happy to see you there! 💙
With love, Anak Kost.
