Chapter 42 42
Chapter 42 42
Episode 42
...
"What do you mean she's already left this house? You didn't do anything to hurt her, did you?!" Matthias shouted, his voice echoing through the living room. His face was flushed red with anger, and his fists were clenched so tightly that the veins on the back of his hands stood out. He would never allow anyone to hurt his wife's feelings — Never.
He had finally realized it earlier when Felix told him something that had shaken him deeply. Felix had seen Luna crying at her parents' graves. At that moment, Matthias finally understood something he should have realized long ago.
That woman always acted strong.
She smiled, she laughed, she complained, she acted as though nothing could hurt her but behind all of that, she cried far more often than anyone knew. And when the pain became too much to bear, she went to her family's graves and poured out her heart there.
The thought alone made Matthias's chest tighten painfully. He would never allow his wife to suffer so much that she had to seek comfort from the dead — Not ever again.
"Hah..." Morgan rubbed his temples in frustration. He genuinely hadn't expected things to turn out like this. From everything he had investigated, this situation should have been impossible.
According to his findings, Matthias's first encounter with Luna had been at the auction. And Matthias wasn't the type of man who fell for women easily.
In fact, he rarely showed interest in anyone at all.
That was why Morgan had believed it would be simple to remove Luna from his son's life. After all, Matthias had never seemed to love her.
But now... It was obvious that Morgan had been completely wrong."I'm too tired to listen to your shouting."Morgan exhaled heavily before continuing. "Yes, I offered her money to leave you."
"But she refused and then she left."
Matthias's jaw tightened.
Meanwhile, Morgan leaned back in his chair and continued. "There's something strange about that girl."
"Something that made it impossible for me to force her away from you."
"She said you were the only family she had left. Then she walked away."
"I don't know where she went, and frankly, I don't care." Morgan glanced at him coldly. "If you don't believe me, check the CCTV footage."
After saying that, he gestured toward one of the servants, signaling for assistance with his wheelchair. The servant immediately stepped forward.
Meanwhile, Matthias remained frozen in place. His breathing became heavier. The pounding in his chest grew stronger and stronger. He had never known Luna had said something like that.
Something so sincere, something so honest, something so heartbreakingly sweet.
'The only family she has left...' His gaze lowered. For some reason, his eyes felt hot. The urge to see Luna right now became overwhelming.
He wanted to find her immediately. He wanted to pull her into his arms. He wanted to tell her something he should have said much sooner.
A bitter smile appeared on his face. "It's the same for me, Luna..." His voice came out as little more than a whisper. "You're the only one I have left too."
"Just wait for me. I'll find you." His words trembled slightly.
For some reason, a terrible feeling had settled deep inside his chest. An uneasy feeling... A feeling he couldn't explain.
Without wasting another second, Matthias turned around and rushed out of the house. His footsteps echoed through the hallway before disappearing outside.
...
As soon as he got into the car, he immediately tried calling Luna again.
Once... Twice... Three times, but nothing, her phone couldn't be reached and not a single call connected.
Matthias's brows furrowed deeply. His hand tightened around the phone. "Why do I have such a bad feeling?"
"What exactly is happening?" His heartbeat accelerated.
Something wasn't right and he could feel it. The fear inside his chest kept growing, then suddenly Matthias remembered something.
His eyes narrowed.
The black card... The card he had given Luna. Immediately, he grabbed his phone and activated the tracking system connected to it.
Back when he first gave it to her, it hadn't been purely out of generosity. Part of the reason was because Matthias wanted to know where his troublesome wife was at all times. A tracking component had been embedded inside the black card.
If it was ever lost, he could locate it instantly.
At the time, he had installed it simply to keep an eye on Luna.
Now... For the first time, he was grateful he had done it. The tracking system loaded and a location appeared on the screen.
Matthias stared at it, then his expression changed because the signal wasn't moving. It had remained at the exact same location for quite some time.
The longer he stared at the blinking dot on the map, the darker his expression became, then suddenly... His eyes widened... A terrifying rage exploded inside him.
The location of the black card was inside a small forest near the estate of someone Matthias knew and he knew one thing for certain... There was no way this was a coincidence.
The moment he recognized the location, Matthias slammed his foot down on the accelerator. The engine roared and his car shot down the road at terrifying speed.
He wouldn't allow his wife to be hurt — Not even a little.
...
At the same time...
"You got rid of her bag and phone, right?"
"Make sure there isn't a single trace left behind." A beautiful woman whose eyes were darkened by countless sleepless nights stood inside the forest, making sure her orders had been carried out perfectly. Her expression was twisted by obsession, by resentment and by something far uglier than hatred.
"Yes, Miss."
"We followed all of your instructions." The men nodded immediately. Their answer caused a satisfied smile to appear on her lips. She turned toward a small wooden cabin hidden deep within the forest, then a sharp sneer spread across her face.
"Good."
"Wait outside."
"I'll finish my business with that cheap woman myself." Her voice dripped with malice. Without waiting for a response, she pushed open the cabin door and stepped inside.
There, tied securely to a wooden chair, sat Luna.
She was still unconscious.
Without hesitation, the woman grabbed a bucket of cold water that had been prepared beforehand. Then she threw it directly onto Luna.
Splash!
"Ah..."
"My head..." The freezing water soaked Luna from head to toe. The shock forced her awake immediately. A painful throbbing spread through her skull.
Her vision blurred, then slowly, she opened her eyes. The moment she saw the woman standing before her, Her eyes widened in shock.
"You..."
"Hngh!"
"What...?" Luna instinctively struggled.
Only then did she realize her arms and body had been tightly tied to the chair. No matter how hard she moved, she couldn't free herself.
"Heh." The woman laughed coldly. "It's disgusting having to look at you again."
"But I have to keep my promise, don't I?"
"A promise to erase you." Valery slowly raised the knife in her hand. The blade gleamed under the dim light inside the cabin.
"I can't accept the fact that you stole my man."
"You're nothing but trash."
"Trash that should disappear from this world."
Luna's eyes widened. Her breathing became shallow. Her gaze locked onto the knife in Valery's hand and fear crawled up her spine.
"What are you talking about?"
"I didn't steal anything!"
"My husband told me you cheated on him and—" Luna tried to explain, tried to make Valery understand, tried to tell her that she wasn't the other woman but hearing those words only made Valery even more furious.
"SHUT UP!" Valery screamed. "I SAID SHUT UP, YOU WHORE!" Her voice echoed through the cabin.
The obsession in her eyes had become terrifying. "My life is none of your business! And let me tell you something."
"There will never be another woman he'll love besides me." Valery's chest rose and fell violently. "The cheating was just a small mistake."
"Our relationship could have been fixed. We could have gotten back together." Her voice trembled, not from sadness but from madness. "That's why you have to disappear."
"You have to vanish forever."
"Because I'm the only woman worthy of being his wife!"
Luna's body tensed... Fear tightened around her throat, her breathing became increasingly difficult. The moment Valery raised the knife and pressed it against her neck... Luna shut her eyes.
"No..."
"No..."
"I don't want to die." The plea echoed inside her heart. "I've only just found my happiness."
"I can't die now."
Not now... Not when she had finally found a place she belonged... Not when she had finally found someone who accepted her... Not when she had finally started opening her heart again.
But in a situation like this... There was almost nothing she could do.
"Haaah..." Valery's hand moved.
The blade slid against Luna's skin, a sharp sting spread across her neck. Luna knew immediately, the skin had been cut and a small wound had already formed.
And at that moment... For the first time, she truly felt how close death was. A painful ache spread through her chest because all she could think about was Matthias. The man who had slowly broken through the walls around her heart. The man who had made her believe in happiness again. The man who had confessed his feelings to her only a few hours ago.
"Please..."
"Don't let me die here." At first, she had wanted nothing more than justice for her grandmother.
Back then, she thought she wouldn't mind dying afterward but now... Everything was different. "Now I want to live."
"I want to try again."
"I want to believe in sincere feelings one more time." A tear slipped down her cheek. "Please..."
"Let me live beside him."
"I don't want him to suffer the pain of being left behind. Please give me a second chance."
"Please..." Luna prayed silently. Not with words but with the most desperate part of her soul.
Her heart felt fragile and broken. She didn't know what she could possibly do to survive this.
At this point... Only a miracle could save her.
And then... Just as that desperate prayer reached the depths of her heart, a loud commotion suddenly erupted outside the cabin.
...
