Chapter 82 CHAPTER 82
Chapter 82 CHAPTER 82
ALINA
It was my wedding day, and I was bursting with a mix of excitement and nerves. I sat in front of the mirror, my heart racing as my mother fluffed out the skirt of my dress, her hands gentle. I couldn't believe this was finally happening. After everything Kai and I had been through, we were here, about to say our vows. It almost felt like a dream that I was going to be woken up from. I was so happy that it felt like there was an end to it. That I was just deluding myself by being happy. I glanced at my mother, her face calm and focused as she adjusted the veil atop my head.
"You look beautiful, Alina," she said, her eyes softening as she took a step back to admire me. Her voice was full of pride, and I could see a shimmer of emotion in her gaze. "You're radiant."
I took a deep breath, feeling my nerves intensify. "Mom, I'm
nervous," I confessed, fidgeting with the lace on my dress. "What if something goes wrong?"
She chuckled softly, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. " Every bride feels that way," she said. "But believe me, this is your day. Nothing is going to ruin it." She sat down beside me, taking my hands in hers. "I remember feeling exactly the same way on my wedding day. I was so nervous I could hardly breathe."
I smiled, grateful for her presence. If she was not here, I wouldn't know how I was going to survive with my body shaking this way. At the end of the day, she was the only one who could really help me.
"Really? I always imagined you being calm and collected."
She laughed, shaking her head. "Oh no. Your father was a sweet man, but he had his moments of... let's say, stubbornness." She paused, a hint of sadness crossing her face. "He wasn't always like he was toward the end. There was a time when he loved me, deeply."
I watched as her expression shifted, "Mom, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that."
She squeezed my hands, offering a small smile. "I wouldn't change a thing. It brought me you." She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Besides, love is worth fighting for, even when it's hard. And today, you're marrying someone who loves you with every fiber of his being. I can see it in Kai's eyes. The way he talks to you and the way he looks at you. That isn't something that could be faked."
My heart swelled at her words, and I felt a renewed sense of confidence. I was ready to walk down that aisle and begin my life with Kai.
She handed me a final touch. A delicate necklace with a single pearl. “ This was my mother's," she said, fastening it around my neck. "I wore it on my wedding day, and now it's yours."
"Thank you, Mom," I whispered, feeling a surge of gratitude. She kissed my forehead, and I felt a warmth settle over me. With a deep breath, I stood, my heart pounding with anticipation.
The ceremony was set in a stunning clearing just outside the palace, where trees surrounded us, and flowers in shades of soft pinks and whites lined the aisle. I could hear the gentle murmur of the guests and see the soft glow of the lanterns hung from the trees. As my mother guided me down the aisle, my eyes locked with Kai's. He stood at the altar, his gaze intense and full of love. My nerves melted away as I took each step closer to him, feeling a sense of peace settle over me. This was it. It was our moment.
Since he had proposed to me eight months ago, I have been looking forward to this moment every night. We did not want to rush it. We still had a lot of work to do then because of the merge, and we also wanted the wedding to be perfect and memorable. I was so glad that we were about to achieve that.
When we reached the altar, Kai took my hand, "You look breathtaking," he whispered, his eyes filled with admiration.
I smiled, feeling my cheeks flush. "And you look pretty handsome yourself," I teased, squeezing his hand.
The officiant began, and soon it was time for our vows. I took a deep breath, meeting Kai's eyes. "Kai," I began, my voice steady, "from the moment we met, you've been my rock, my friend, and my love. I promise to stand by you, to support you, and to love you with all that I am. Through every trial, every joy, I will be yours."
Kai's eyes glistened with unshed tears as he squeezed my hand, his voice thick with emotion. "Alina, you are my everything. You've shown me a love I never knew I could have. I vow to protect you, to cherish you, and to love you with every beat of my heart. You are my home, and I am forever yours."
As we sealed our vows with a kiss, the world around us faded. It was just us, wrapped in each other's warmth and love. The officiants then announced the mate bond and my chest soared with happiness. But then, a sharp, unexpected pain shot through my abdomen. I gasped, clutching my stomach as a wave of nausea and agony washed over me. My vision blurred, and I felt myself start to sway.
"Alina!" Kai's voice was filled with panic as he caught me, his strong arms holding me steady. I looked down and saw water staining my dress. A fresh wave of terror washed over me as I realized something was wrong.
The next moments were a blur. Kai lifted me into his arms, his face pale and tense as he carried me to the palace's medical wing. I clung to him, barely able to form words as the pain intensified. In the hospital room, I was laid on a bed, and doctors swarmed around me, their voices saying an array of medical terms I couldn't understand. Kai was by my side, his hand gripping mine, his face etched with fear.
"It hurts, Kai," I whispered, tears streaming down my face. “I feel like I'm dying."
"No, Alina, you can't... you're not allowed to leave me," he choked out, his own eyes filled with tears. "Please, stay with me. Do not leave me. Be strong." He brushed a strand of hair from my face, his voice trembling.
They took me to the labor room, and that was when I realized what was going on. I was about to give birth. The pain was the worst I have ever felt. It felt like my bones were all being broken at the same time, but even worse. Kai helped me out of my wedding dress and they put me into another more comfortable one, even though it did nothing really to stop the pain.
Hours passed in a haze of pain and exhaustion as I struggled to bring our children into the world. Kai's presence was my anchor, his voice grounding me as I fought through the agony. He did not complain as I squeezed his hands, helping myself through the pain.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I felt a shift, a release of tension, and the sound of a baby's cry filled the room. A wave of relief washed over me, and I managed a tired smile.
"It's a girl," the doctor announced, carefully placing her in my arms. She was tiny, her skin pink and warm against mine. Tears blurred my vision as I looked down at her, marveling at the miracle we had created.
But the doctor wasn't finished. Moments later, another cry filled the
room.
"A boy," the doctor said, handing him to me as well. I was shocked, not knowing for once that I was carrying two babies.
I held both of them, overwhelmed with love and awe. These were our little miracles, our precious gifts.
Kai's face was a mix of shock and joy as he leaned down, kissing me gently on the forehead. "They're perfect, Alina. You're perfect."
Exhaustion washed over me, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from our children. They were everything I had ever wanted, and I knew I would do anything to protect them. They were a miracle. After my miscarriage, I was not sure that I was ever going to be able to have children again but here I was with two. More than I expected. As the doctors took the babies to clean them up, Kai helped me into a more comfortable position, his hands gentle as he brushed my hair back. He was still crying.
"You did it, Alina," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You brought our children into the world. I'm so proud of you."
I managed a weak smile, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle over me. "I couldn't have done it without you, Kai."
Family members soon poured into the room, their faces lighting up as they saw the babies. Aunt Arya, Lily, and Maria took turns holding them, their joy contagious as they cooed over the tiny faces.
"Congratulations, Alina," Aunt Arya said, her voice filled with warmth. "They're absolutely beautiful."
I nodded, my heart swelling with pride as I looked at each of my family members, grateful to have them here in this precious
moment. Kai stayed by my side, his gaze never leaving me. He gently cleaned my face with a damp cloth, brushing his fingers over my cheek with a tenderness that brought fresh tears to my eyes.
"You should rest," he murmured, his voice soft. "I'll take care of the babies. You've done enough for today."
He was right, even though I wanted to be with my babies. I was exhausted after hours of labour.
Reluctantly, I agreed, letting him guide me to a more comfortable position on the bed. I watched as he carefully took the babies, his face radiating a love I had never seen before.
"Thank you, Kai," I whispered, my eyes growing heavy as sleep began to claim me. "For everything."
"Sleep, my love," he replied, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead." I'll be right here."
As I drifted off, I felt a profound sense of peace settle over me. This was my family, my future. And for the first time, I knew that
everything would be okay.
THE END.
