Chapter 67 Lucien’s POV
Chapter 67 Lucien’s POV
Lucien’s POV
Having trust in someone with something that I was never good at. I had thought about it over and over again, but all she did was just give me good reasons to trust her.
It was a wrong decision to make a deal with her in the first place, but then I was desperate because I wanted to get June's attention.
Anybody would do what I did to get her attention because she wasn’t that regular girl. She was the beautiful girl that everybody wanted and what else could I do?
I didn’t really care if she was my sibling.
Everything that mattered was that she was on my side and that was it.
I had sent a text message to Whitney two hours ago and she has to arrive at the restaurant for us to talk about the rising issue on the ground
I have noticed how troubled that June was, this was because of what happened between us in Las Vegas. But it shouldn’t be a problem and I was just wondering how she was still thinking about it.
Although she had said that, the trouble she was having was because she was being labeled as a greedy person and they also tagged her for leaving her mother for a man.
That was me.
But it was not the truth.
I had everything planned out and I just got the information that she was going to Las Vegas and that was the only opportunity I had to speak with her or make friends with her.
If we had not found out about the information, I wouldn’t have found out.
Finally, I was in the restaurant, and it was quiet just the way I wanted it to be. The soft music that was playing in the background and the low calm lights.
To every other person, it was just going to be a dinner date, and since it was simple, nobody would really talk about it. But to me, it wasn’t released because I have a lot of questions in my head.
I wanted to clear the air and I also wanted to stop the narrative from pushing further.
I sat at the table, my fingers tapping lightly against the glass in front of me. I had been waiting for ten minutes, but it felt longer.
Whitney was late.
That alone made my mood worse. This was the first time she was coming late, even on days that I thought she would be late for meetings like this, she doesn’t even come late.
Sometimes she is curious to hear what I have to say, and that makes her arrive early.
But considering the fact that she was late, it could also mean that she could actually be nervous or avoiding this particular meeting with me because she already knows what was going on.
I leaned back in my chair, my eyes scanning the entrance. The moment the door opened, I looked up.
And there she was.
Whitney walked in slowly, her eyes searching until they landed on me. For a second, she froze. Just for a second.
Then she forced a smile and walked toward me.
“Lucien,” she said softly as she reached the table.
“Whitney,” I replied, my voice calm but cold.
She sat down across from me, placing her bag carefully on the chair beside her. I noticed how stiff her movements were.
Good. She knew something was wrong.
It was funny how we were not talking in the office, but had our little secrets together. Although I really didn’t care about all of that because it was not going to change anything.
I just noticed that she was interested in Declan and decided to give her a plan. She didn’t run away from it either, she just worked with it.
I didn’t even know that it was going to come out where but here we are. Something actually came out of the plan which I thought was going to be useless.
A few minutes later, a waiter came over, but I raised my hand slightly. “We’ll order later.”
The waiter nodded and walked away. This was not the moment to start ordering food when there were important topics to talk about
Whitney glanced at me, then quickly looked away. She picked up the menu, even though she wasn’t really reading it.
I let the silence stretch because I was cooking up something in my mind already and I wanted her to stay comfortable before we started talking
After a few minutes, almost like ten minutes, I finally decided to speak
“Do you want to tell me,” I said slowly, “why Declan knows about June’s trip to Las Vegas?”
The words landed heavily on the table just as I wanted them to be.
Whitney’s hand froze on the menu. She wasn’t really expecting that and I could tell from the look on her face. She didn’t speak for a moment.
But then, she slowly put the menu down and looked at me. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said.
I stared at her. Was this some kind of joke or something?
Her face was calm. Too calm and I wanted her to feel the panic that was also in June’s body.
“You don’t know?” I repeated even though I knew that she was just lying.
She shook her head. “No. I didn’t tell him anything.”
I let out a small, dry laugh.
Does she think I was going to believe that? It’s not going to happen. Especially not now that I was already having a bad day.
A lot of things were going on that I really wanted to clarify. I wanted to know what was really happening.
“That’s interesting,” I said. “Because somehow, he knows and you are the only person that is close to him. I mean… You are the only person who can get him that information.”
Whitney frowned slightly. “Lucien, I’m serious. I didn’t say anything to Declan.”
I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the table.
“Then explain it to me,” I said, my voice sharper now. “Because this isn’t a guess. He knows about the trip. He knows enough to start asking questions.”
Whitney’s eyes widened a little, but she quickly hid it.
“I don’t know how he found out,” she said. “Maybe he just… looked into it himself.”
I held her gaze, trying to process what she had just said, but it was obvious that she was lying, and there was a lot of proof.
How could he have figured it out so easily? It was going to be a difficult one except it was somebody else who might have seen her with me that night and the person is not saying anything about me because maybe the person did not know me.
“No,” I said firmly. “Declan doesn’t ‘just find things.’ Not like that. Someone told him. Or someone gave him a reason to go and do his research.”
“I didn’t give him any reason,” she insisted.
“Are you going to tell the truth or will you just continue to lie to me?” I slammed my hand against the desk.
