Chapter 38 Sisters together, and never apart.
Antonella Erickson - POV
I stood in front of the mirror with the potion in one hand when I saw Maximus come and stand behind me as he gently placed his hands on my shoulders. “You look nervous," he whispered.
“How long can we hide the truth, Maximus?” I asked him.
“Not for long," he said when my eyes widened in shock. “Elijah will find out that you are with me, and he will inform the elder’s council.”
“Then I should leave before things go downhill.” I told him when he shook his head. His hands moved down until they rested on my waist while he moved closer and pressed his body against mine.
“You are mine, Antonella. I will not let anyone take you away from me.” He made a promise when he turned me around until our eyes locked. “Do you trust me?” he asked me.
Even before I could think the answer left my mouth. “Yes,” I said with certainty. I have never felt this comfort or safety with Elijah, and even though our bond confused me, I didn't question it.
“I think we should head down. Rachel is here, and I don't think we want her to see who you truly are," he said when I nodded my head. I stepped back and drank the potion in my hand as I felt the magic begin to work.
Rachel Edward - POV
“Arthur! You are here early.” I exclaimed as I walked into Maximus’s house.
“I was starving, so I got here early. But I don't think we will be having breakfast anytime soon.” He joked when I narrowed my eyes in confusion.
“What do you mean?” I asked him when a smirk appeared on his face.
“Maximus and Luna Evangeline are a little cozy in bed, and it would not be easy to leave the room for them," he said when I felt my heart shatter, but I made sure to maintain a neutral look on my face. If Evangeline had not met Maximus, it would have been me who should have been with Maximus.
“Well, it does take some time to adjust to the changes,” I commented while deep down I desperately hoped that they had never made love last night.
“I don't think so, Rachel. He is an alpha, and it is a miracle that he controlled himself this long around his mate.” Arthur said, and right then I heard heavy footsteps on the stairs when we looked up to see Maximus and Evangeline walking downstairs hand in hand.
There was a glow in her eyes as she reached the landing. “Good morning, Rachel!” Evangeline said in joy when she walked towards me and pulled me into a hug. Maximus’s scent clung to hers as I took in a deep breath and slowly moved away.
“Good morning, Evangeline. So how was your first night?” I asked her with a smile on my face.
“It was good. We got to know a lot more of each other," she told me as she briefly looked at Maximus.
“Thank you for coming for breakfast, Rachel.” Maximus told me when I nodded my head.
"Let's go and have something to eat. I am starving.” "Arthur said, breaking the awkward silence when we all walked into the dining room." Throughout breakfast I desperately tried to keep my emotions in check. Even though I pretended like I was perfectly fine with letting Maximus go, deep down my heart was breaking into pieces.
An hour later breakfast was over, and I soon left the house. I had a training session to conduct in thirty minutes, but instead of going to the training grounds, I went to my house and locked myself inside.
“If you are so upset about seeing them together, why aren't you doing anything?” I looked at the hallway when I saw Cynthia ask me as she stopped in front of me.
“I am not upset. I told you, I have moved on.” I told her, irritated, when a smirk appeared on her face. She took out an envelope from her pocket and waved it in front of me.
“Then why did you contact him again?” She asked me when my eyes widened in horror. I stepped forward and tried to take the letter, but she stepped back.
“Let me put you out of your misery, sister.” Cynthia said, and I knew that she had read the letter. “The rogue did complete the job you gave him three years ago. And he has also sent you pictures of her dead body, which he buried in the forest.” Cynthia told me when she took out the pictures and handed them over to me.
“So it's not her?” I asked in doubt when Cynthia nodded her head.
“Why are you trying to do this alone when you have me? You should have told me you were going to take back your rightful place.” Cynthia asked me when the tears finally fell.
“You have a whole life in front of you, Cynthia. I don't want to ruin it for you.”
“What do you mean?” she asked me.
“This is not like last time. If something happens to Evangeline, there is a high chance that I might get caught. I do rather suffer alone than drag you down with me.” I told her when the tears finally fell down my cheek.
A tense silence engulfed us when she walked towards me and closed the gap between us as she wrapped her arms around me. “You are the one who raised me when our parents died. You sacrifice a lot to get to where we are today," she whispered when she pulled back. “I have done this once, and I will do it a hundred times if it means I get to see a smile on my sister’s face.”
My lips trembled when I quickly pulled her into a hug. “I don't know what I did to deserve a sister like you, Cici. I love you," I told her.
“I love you more,” she told me when she pulled back. “So, do you have a plan?” Cynthia asked me when a smile appeared on my face.
“Just like last time, we will not directly get involved in anything,” I told her when a frown appeared on her face.
“So we are going to ask that rogue for help again?” Cynthia asked me when I shook my head.
“Using the same man twice is a death trap, sister. I have already formulated another plan.”
