Chapter 37 Mission accomplished
Chapter 37 Mission accomplished
Madison Smith - POV
I walked into the hospital; the scent of disinfectant and blood invaded my nostrils, making me scrunch in disgust. “Hey, are you the new cleaner?” I turned around when I saw a nurse standing behind me with a clipboard.
“Yes, Beta Gordon asked me to come here.” I asserted when she nodded her head.
“You are on bedpan duty. Ward three,” she told me, and when she was about to leave, I held her arm.
“I am sorry, but what is bedpan duty?” I asked, sounding confused, and this only made her more irritated while I suppressed the anger that was bubbling within me. I am the daughter of an alpha, and I was once Elijah’s girlfriend, and I have never been subjected to this kind of behavior before.
"Don't ask questions. Just do what I say," the nurse snapped at me before she walked away. I let out a sigh and began walking to ward three. As I pushed open the door, the smell of blood was more prominent in here along with the stench of feces, sweat, and urine.
My stomach turned while I desperately tried to keep my breakfast in my stomach. This was the labor room, and there were four women on the verge of giving birth. Everyone was frantic in here when a nurse spotted me and gestured for me to come closer.
“Clean this and bring a set of new sheets from the laundry room," the nurse told me as she placed a silver kidney-shaped tray that had feces on it, and that was when I realized what bedpan duty was.
“You want me to clean this?” I asked her when she looked at me as if I were stupid.
“You either do this or I report you to the beta," she threatened, and without a word, I rushed out. The rest of my day was spent washing dirty laundry and cleaning soiled sheets, and at one point I felt like I had lost my sense of smell.
I was mopping the floor near the operating theater when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I took it out to see that I had received a message from the woman.
Go to the western border in the forest with a first aid kit at five pm. A doctor would be injured there and save her life.
“What sort of a task is that?” Freya wondered, and I had the same thought as well.
“There must be a reason for this.” I told her and looked at the time to see that there are another thirty minutes for five. I grabbed my cleaning supplies and walked into the supply closet, and after placing everything inside, I grabbed a first aid kit and left the hospital.
“Could you hear something?” I asked my wolf while my eyes searched the forest, but I couldn't find anyone.
“No, I guess we…” Freya paused when we heard a blood-curdling cry. I looked around before I began running towards that sound. As I passed a tree, I saw a woman lying on the floor wearing a doctor’s coat that was covered in blood.
A rogue was standing in front, but the moment it saw me, it slightly nodded its head before storming out into the neutral territory. I rushed to her side and knelt down on the floor when I saw that the rogue had taken a huge chunk out from her left abdomen.
“Doctor, can you hear me?” I asked her when her eyes slowly opened while confusion clouded her vision.
“Who are you?” she wheezed.
“That doesn't matter. Do you feel the pain?” I asked when my hand moved to gently press on her wound.
“No, I think it's the adrenaline rush.” She mumbled when I opened the first aid kit and took out the painkiller injection and injected it into the affected area. She hisses, but then I see her calm down. I took a bandage and began wrapping her wound, and right then I heard the heavy sound of footsteps when the warriors stopped in front of me along with Beta Zane.
“Take her to the hospital immediately.” Zane instructed when two wolves changed into their human forms and quickly carried the doctor away.
“What are you doing here, Susan?” Zane asked me when his eyes locked with the first aid kit. “With a first aid kit?”
“I was heading to my room when I decided to take a walk in the forest, and that was when I heard her voice, Beta Gordon.”
“The first aid kit?”
"That's for me. I usually have a first aid kit with me just in case, but I guess it came handy this time.” I told him but didn't look convinced by my answer.
“Why save only the doctor? Why didn't you save the nurse?” Beta Gordon asked me when a frown appeared on my face.
“The nurse? But when I got here only the doctor was there.” I asserted, and right then a warrior walked towards us carrying a lifeless body in his arms.
“She was dead before I even reached her, Beta Gordon," the warrior said when he placed the body on the ground.
“Where was she found?” Zane asked him.
“She was close to the northern border. But it looks like she was attacked by the same group of rogues as well," the warrior exclaimed when Zane turned to face me.
“When you got here, did you see who attacked her?” Zane asked me when I nodded my head.
“It was a rogue. But there was only one wolf here.”
“And the rogue simply left when it saw you?” Zane asked me.
“By the time I reached her, the rogue had already run back into the neutral territory.” I answered without stammering.
“Inform Alpha Alastair about this.” Zane instructed the warrior who nodded his head. “Go back to your room; there will be a lockdown in a few minutes," he told me when I nodded my head and picked up my things and began walking back to my room.
As soon as I arrived, I locked the door and texted the woman about what happened.
“Did the doctor survive?” she replied.
“Yes.”
“Good, meet her tomorrow and tell her that you saved her.”
