Chapter 563
Chapter 563
"What did you just say?"
Harper even doubted her own ears, genuinely wondering if she’d misheard him. "You’re telling me he wants to propose to Molly... here? Right now?"
At Molly and Gerald's wedding?
Harper had mentally prepared herself for Lucas's possible arrival, bracing herself for the possibility that Lucas might show up and cause a scene.
But clearly, she hadn't prepared enough...this was beyond anything she had imagined.
Harper found it absurd... It wasn't just bold; it was delusional. Noah thought it was inappropriate too, and said helplessly, "As his brother, I really have no other choice. Chloe and I came today hoping to resolve this matter as pleasantly and quietly as possible. Otherwise, I don't know what my brother might do if we don’t find a way to resolve this."
Harper fell silent.
Her gaze drifted towards Molly.
If Molly showed even the slightest hint of reluctance.
Harper would immediately make these two people leave before they could take another breath.
Molly's expression was calm. She wasn't surprised by Lucas's arrival either, but she didn't show any reaction.
She said to Noah, "I won't marry a coward who won't even come see me in person. You can leave now. I'm going to continue with my wedding."
Noah and Chloe stood helplessly as Molly smoothed her gown.. They could only watch as Molly left the lounge to continue with this grand and luxurious wedding.
After Harper accompanied Molly downstairs, they crossed paths with Gerald.
He was heading toward them, and the look on his face was haunting. Although he masked it the second his eyes met Molly’s, Harper still keenly noticed the gloom and irritation that flashed in Gerald's eyes.
She raised her eyebrows and looked toward Lucas in the distance.
Obviously, the reason she hadn't seen Gerald earlier was probably because Lucas had called him away.
Their conversation must have been very unpleasant and had clearly left Gerald on the edge of a breakdown.
Gerald went up to Molly, and before the wedding began, he gripped Molly's hand tightly with an almost desperate intensity and wouldn't let go. He lowered his voice and said solemnly, "I won't let go. You’re marrying me, Molly. Only me."
Molly smiled and patted the back of Gerald's hand soothingly as if she were calming a startled animal and as if understanding what Gerald really meant, "It's okay, I won't force you into anything."
After all, for Molly, this wasn't just about romance; it was about survival. She just hoped to find a good father for her child.
Someone who could who could act as a shield against Arthur’s toxic shadow and also free her child from Arthur's negative influence.
As for who that person was...
To her, whether it was Gerald or someone else didn't really matter. She just wanted a life where she wouldn't be bullied anymore.
She hoped both parties were willing. If this was too much to ask of Gerald, Molly wouldn't have made things difficult for him anyway.
Gerald, however, seemed to find a dark resolve in her words. He shot a lethal look toward Lucas and tightened his hold on her hand.
He swore to Molly, his voice trembling with conviction, "If I let you down, may I be struck by lightning and die a terrible death."
Seeing this, Molly sighed.
She didn't want to see him so insistent, so desperate.
At this moment, the wedding began. Flower children led the way, scattering petals still carrying light dewdrops.
Under the watchful eyes of the elite crowd, the two held flowers and exchanged rings.
Molly smiled radiantly. The wedding was dreamlike to the onlookers.. Harper watched from the front row, a lump forming in her throat. She felt a profound sense of relief.
Molly had finally completely overcome the obstacle that was Arthur. She had completely let go of the past and could start a new life.
The officiant, a seasoned veteran of the industry with a kind, grandfatherly warmth, beamed at them. When the wedding march stopped, he began the traditional vows "Whether in poverty or wealth..."
Both smiled and answered "I do."
However, just as the officiant was going through the routine of asking if anyone objected which was supposed to be a rhetorical pause, a heartbeat of silence before the kiss.
This moment that should have been harmonious and warm was interrupted by an abrupt voice.
It was Lucas who stood up. The atmosphere in the room curdled instantly.
The moment Gerald saw Lucas's figure, his face dramatically went from pale to a dangerous. He clenched his fists, his jaw tight as iron, as if silently threatening Lucas.
But Lucas didn't avoid or retreat. He met his gaze directly, smiled, then looked at Molly.
In Gerald's eyes, this was a blatant provocation.
Harper gently signaled Caden to keep an eye on Lucas.
The show she had been dreading had finally arrived, though she couldn't tell if Lucas was acting on pure impulse or a calculated plan.
Everyone else's attention was also drawn to Lucas's sudden action.
Those big shots remained calm, but the press and the cameras were in a frenzy, lenses whirring to capture the scandal of the year.
Harper didn't move to stop the filming yet. She knew the security protocols; no one left this venue without a digital sweep.
If they recorded something they shouldn't have, they’d be dealing with her lawyers before they reached the parking lot.
She let these people excitedly record while she kept monitoring Molly's state.
If Molly showed any sign of rejection, she would immediately make a choice for Molly.
But fortunately, Molly was probably mentally prepared for Lucas and didn't look too surprised.
Then, as if receiving some signal, Noah and Chloe stood up together, with the bodyguards the Wright family brought clearing the way.
Lucas snatched Molly from Gerald's hands and pulled her away from the wedding scene.
"Lucas!" Gerald roared. He lunged to pull her back, but he was suddenly cut off—not by the Wrights, but by his own people.
It looked like they were clearly trying to stop Gerald from chasing Molly!
Seeing this, Harper raised her eyebrows slightly, suddenly understanding why the Wright family were so confident.
Noah hadn't just brought muscle; he had done his homework. He knew the Roberts family saw Molly as a liability, and he had used that to his advantage.
Gerald was obviously impatient, having reached his limit. With a dark face, he ordered them to move aside quickly.
But not only did they not move, driven by their interests, their fear of Gerald had actually lessened. They surrounded Gerald and tried to persuade him, "Gerald, you have to think about the family. Do you know what the Wright family promised us?"
"As long as you cancel today's wedding and stop seeing Molly from now on, the Wright family has agreed to give us concessions. Do you know what the percentage is and how much benefit it will bring us?"
Those people kept trying to persuade him.
But at this moment, Gerald keenly caught onto something.
He suddenly turned his head sharply and asked the person, "What do you mean? How do you know the exact percentages of a deal I haven't even seen?"
The person met Gerald's bloodshot eyes and felt his heart skip a beat, feeling guilty and panicked beyond his control.
But at this point, he could only bite the bullet and say, "We've already signed a contract with the Wright family. Don't blame us, we're doing this for your own good. As long as you give up this woman, the family business will thrive."
Gerald's face turned iron blue with anger. He lunged forward, grabbing the man by the collar, his voice a low snarl. "You took bribes from the Wrights behind my back? To sell out my wedding?"
"How can you call them bribe, it’s business!" the man stammered, still refusing to admit they had traded Gerald’s happiness for a profit margin.
The Roberts family members were stubborn and refused to admit they had used Gerald's marriage to get benefits from the Wright family.
In front of everyone, they only said, "If you marry Molly, you'll offend both the Davis family and the Wright family in the future. Why bother? Letting go is the best choice."
