Chapter 10

Thalia's POV

I was all in for helping my friend, she didn't have any close family and she had to become something more or less of an outcast because of her promiscuous lifestyle there was literally no other community that she could win onto for support right now other than us.

So of course I was more than willing to help, in fact I was happy to be there for my friend in her time of need.

Varian was also happy for this too.

Sometimes a little too happy in fact.

Before we went to bed I decided to talk to him about it. I said we should break out a plan for how we are going to assist her and he looked at me funny.

"What do you mean make out a plan? If she needs something then we will give it to her immediately without any questions asked. What sort of friend are you? Do you only plan to help her to some point and then let her drown back again?"

"No that's not what I'm saying at all but she still has a job for now and she can still work. I'm just saying that we should budget."

He laughed as if I had just said a really weird joke.

"What do you mean by budget?"he looked at me as if there was something off in my head, "there is no need for a budget we will help her as far as she needs it or if you are not willing to do so then I will help her because I know what it means to be a good friend even if you don't understand it. Maybe that is not your only failing. Perhaps you don't just know how to appreciate the people that you have in your life and you just enjoy taking them for granted."

I had thought that this would be a simple conversation but the more it kept escalating the more I continued to talk backtrack. I didn't want us to argue again. I had hoped that we would settle so I just agreed to what he said hoping that we could discuss it down the line.

But that never happened.

First it started with something simple.

Baby clothes, toys and necessary sanitary items. Of course I was more than happy to have these things provided for her especially if it was going to lift the weight off of her shoulders. However when I dropped by to see her a few days later after she told me she had gone shopping for baby stuff I was surprised by the massive hall that she had. Looking at it even if the baby chose to wear just one of the clothes every single day they wouldn't have to repeat another one more than twice before they were too old to fit into the clothes.

The same thing could be said about the toys and everything else it was so incredibly excessive but I felt like I would be a monster bringing it up, I had already offered to help and now I did not want to also discuss it with my husband because I was worried that he would get angry at me again so I just kept quiet but the spending only escalated and it's didn't just stop at baby stuff.

"She is growing another being inside of her. She will need as much groceries as she can get."

So he bought her groceries and then he hired a specialized chef to cook all of her meals for her. I kept quiet about all of this because of course I just didn't want to get on anyone's bad side but it was really becoming excessive.

I noticed that some of our servants were no longer around and I asked my husband about it. I was in his office when asking this question and without even looking at me he just briskly told me that he had sent them over to my best friend to have them look after her.

It was about five of them that he had sent there and he would be paying for them to stay at a separate residence but coming in to help her with the chores and everything else.

At this point I felt like I had to speak up before my internal exhaustion ended up swallowing me whole.

I sat across from him and said. "Don't you think it's enough now?" He looked at me with a puzzled expression as if the words I have spoken come out in a completely different language than the one that we were using at Converse right now so I said it again and this time he looked less confused and more angry.

"You just can't stand it when everything isn't about you, can you?"

He said to me his tone was accusatory, but I wasn't thinking about it like that at all. Of course I was happy to help my best friend especially in her time of need but there was no way he was spending all of this without dipping his hands into the pack's budget.

I mean he had not gone this far when I was pregnant with the twins, I was a little nervous but I decided to bring that fact up hoping that he would understand that I'm just trying to make sure that he doesn't go overboard with this.

Instead of accepting what I was saying he got even angrier at me.

"I knew it this was all about your petty jealousy and nothing else you saw your friend having something good while she is going through so much and your first thought is that you didn't get something like that so nobody else deserves it..."he didn't give me the chance to speak and defend myself but he wouldn't even give me the chance to do that he kept on berating me, "the reason why I didn't spend so much on you when you were pregnant with the twins was because the pack was not as well of back then as it is now. Honestly Thalia, what do you want from me?!”
