Chapter 138
Cooking duties fell to Zoe.
Now, she refused to return to those days of cooking for him.
Geoffrey showed no reaction.
“I ate too.”
He lied.
He’d rushed home early, expecting Maureen to have dinner ready–he hadn’t eaten a thing.
“Good then.”
Maureen added, “Katherine caught a cold. I’m taking her to the hospital later.”
Truth was, she planned to use Katherine’s identity to check if her body could handle another pregnancy.
Geoffrey didn’t question it.
Maureen took a cab to the hospital, where Katherine had been waiting since early morning.
“I’ve got the appointment slip. You can go for the exam now.”
Katherine said.

“Alright.”
Maureen took the slip and went for her checkup.
An hour later, the results came in – these days were perfect for conception.
Walking out of the hospital, Katherine pulled a small box from her pocket and handed it to Maureen.
“Here, Reenie.”
Puzzled, Maureen examined it.
It was Viagra – that drug men often bought from pharmacies…..
Her face shifted colors like a traffic light.
“No need.”
“What do you mean no need? What if he can’t perform?”
Katherine lowered her voice, “Some men lose their mojo after drinking. Most, actually…”
Though mortified, Maureen secretly pocketed it anyway.
She couldn’t risk giving up halfway.
“Will this affect the baby if he takes it?”
“Not at all. I asked the doctor. Some guys need this to get their wives pregnant.”

Katherine stated with dead seriousness.
Maureen marveled at how this didn’t sound like a woman who’d only had one relationship.
“You’re incredible, Katherine.”
“Damn right.”
Katherine beamed with pride. “Give it your best shot tonight.”
“Mm–hmm.”
After returning today, she needed to find a way to flatter Geoffrey, get him to drink some wine, and then make her move.
This time, if successful, she absolutely couldn’t let Geoffrey retreat to his room and hide.
At this moment, inside the villa.
Geoffrey glanced at the European–style pendulum clock in the living room–it was already past nine in the evening. Still not back at this hour?
Just then, his phone rang. Instinctively thinking it was Maureen, he quickly grabbed it, only to find his mother Heather calling.
Geoff picked up the call, hearing Heather say: “Geoff, Mom heard you brought a child home? Has it been nearly half a month already?”
Geoffrey knitted his sword–like eyebrows: “Who told you?”
His reaction confirmed Heather’s suspicion–the rumor was true.

She’d learned about it from Geoffrey’s special assistant, Wayne.
As Geoffrey’s right–hand man, Wayne naturally wouldn’t disclose such matters. But Heather had her ways–she’d bribed someone close to Wayne.
Through her sources, she discovered Wayne had been frequently absent from Geoffrey’s side lately, apparently tied to a child.
“Never mind who told me. If it’s true, you should’ve informed your
mother.”
“No matter who bore this child, I’ll accept them.”
Heather thought the mother’s identity was shameful, so after Geoffrey brought the child back, he hadn’t told anyone else.
Geoffrey felt helpless.
If that child wasn’t his, would she still be willing to acknowledge it?
“You shouldn’t meddle in this matter.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he hung up the phone.
Unable to calm down, Geoffrey opened his phone’s photo album.
His hidden album had three photos.
One was the exam report from when Maureen was pregnant, another was a photo of Ethan, and the last one was the back of a young girl…
He lingered on the photo of Ethan, looking carefully.

Was this child really Gareth’s?
He didn’t quite believe it, but he didn’t dare have anyone do a paternity
test.
Because once the test confirmed he had no relation to the child, all his hopes would be gone.
It was better not to test at all.
Geoffrey turned off his phone, unaware Heather was overjoyed.
“No matter what, I must find out where that child is!”
Heather looked at the hung–up phone and told her private secretary to
investigate.
No matter how many connections she had to mobilize, she must find
that child.
The reason she longed for a grandson wasn’t just to have Geoffrey carry on the family line.
Still, to tell the Sutton elders that her genes were fine.
Decades ago, she had twins, but the younger son was found with a genetic disease right after birth. Her mother–in–law then gave her a hard time.
Later, after Geoffrey took over the Sutton Family, the Sutton elders treated her a bit better.
But Geoffrey never had kids, and everyone said he had physical issues too, might not have children…

Proud as Heather, she couldn’t admit her genes were flawed, nor would she tell Geoffrey her troubles.

After Maureen came back from the hospital, she saw the living room light was on. She pushed the door open and entered, then saw Geoffrey in home clothes sitting on the sofa, flipping through a book in the soft light.
