Chapter 325 Choosing to Rely on Brandon
Chapter 325 Choosing to Rely on Brandon
Brandon, who also controlled a powerful family, was no stranger to such tactics.
Those who coveted the power in their hands would resort to any dirty tricks.
On the surface, Caspian was injured while investigating that doctor.
But in reality, no one knew how many forces had acted against him simultaneously.
Candice felt a chill run down her spine.
She also thought of the time when Brandon was poisoned and nearly killed.
Back then, if she hadn't happened to go to Seaside City to treat Brandon, he probably still wouldn't have recovered his vision by now.
Similar things were now happening to Caspian.
Although the degree of cruelty was different, both were life-threatening situations!
Finnegan's expression was very serious. He told Candice, "We absolutely cannot let word of Caspian's injury get out!"
Otherwise, the Mortimer Group would quickly fall into chaos.
Candice looked at Finnegan with concern and said, "But this might be hard to hide. Since Caspian was deliberately hunted down, those hiding in the shadows definitely won't miss this opportunity. They'll probably make their move soon."
Finnegan pushed up his glasses. "Even so, the main branch's power isn't so easy to take! Without Caspian, the company still has Dad. If worst comes to worst, there's still Ulysses and me."
"Even though Ulysses took the unconventional route and went into acting, he still has a solid double degree!"
The three Mortimer brothers were famous because they were all elite, highly intelligent individuals.
Even Ulysses had double majored in performance and management!
A flash of pain crossed Finnegan's eyes as he continued, "If Caspian really doesn't wake up, someone will eventually step up!"
While he was equally worried about Caspian's condition, Finnegan quickly analyzed the pros and cons and what might happen in the future.
He had even roughly thought out some ways to deal with it.
Candice knew Finnegan was right, and things could indeed work out that way.
But if she had a choice, she still hoped Caspian would be safe and sound.
Nothing else mattered—she just wanted Caspian to be okay...
Brandon understood her thoughts. He let out a heavy breath and said, "It's too early to talk about all this. Maybe Mr. Mortimer's condition isn't as bad as we think. Plus, Candy's here now. With her medical skills, she might be able to help him pull through."
Finnegan didn't deny this.
Perhaps because he was worried about Caspian, Finnegan was unusually able to face Brandon calmly.
The flight abroad would take over ten hours.
But because of Caspian's situation, the atmosphere in the cabin was very heavy.
Halfway through, Candice dozed off.
After all, she'd been so exhausted last night and had been worried about Caspian the whole time. She hadn't slept well, and then was woken up by Brandon's call not long after.
Now, both physical and mental exhaustion caught up with her, and she couldn't hold out any longer.
But even in sleep, she was very restless.
She had nightmare after nightmare, full of strange and disturbing scenes.
When she woke up, Candice was covered in cold sweat, her face pale and drawn.
Brandon was sitting right next to her. Seeing her wake up, he asked with concern, "Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare?"
Candice looked at him, stunned for a moment, then asked in confusion, "Why are you here? Where's Finnegan?"
Brandon wiped the sweat from her forehead, his voice low and gentle. "He went to the restroom. I felt something was wrong with you, so I came over to check."
His fingers gently touched her face and forehead—both were ice cold.
Feeling the warmth from his hand, Candice's eyes suddenly reddened for some reason.
She grabbed Brandon's hand like a drowning person clutching a lifeline and asked, "Caspian will be okay, right?"
Brandon was a bit stunned, looking at Candice.
This was the first time he'd seen her show such a vulnerable expression.
She looked like she was about to cry, her eyes red, revealing an innocent, frightened look like a young animal.
Just seeing it made his heart ache.
He gently patted her shoulder, coaxing her softly, "Don't be afraid. Of course, he'll be fine."
Candice didn't seem to hear whether she'd taken it in or not.
She continued on her own, "A few years ago, when I left Seaside City and returned to Silverlight City, the people in the family were very hostile toward me."
"They didn't even want to acknowledge me as the Mortimer family's daughter who came back halfway. There were countless nasty speculations. Even other upper-class families in Silverlight City were just waiting to see me become a joke."
"It was Caspian who stood up to protect me despite everyone's opposition. His voice in the Mortimer family carries as much weight as my dad's and my grandparents'. He strictly forbade anyone in Silverlight City's upper circles from bullying me."
"He even transferred shares under his name to me. He made everyone see how much he and the Mortimer family valued me. Finnegan and Ulysses have also done so much for me. They're all such good family members. I don't want anything to happen to them!"
"And my mom and dad—compared to the Mortimer family's power and influence, they care more about us kids. Even though they seem to favor me more usually, if anything happened to my brothers, they'd be very worried too. I don't want them to go through that!"
"I finally have such a wonderful family. I really can't accept losing any of them..."
Candice's voice choked up, and her eyes grew redder and redder.
Brandon clearly hadn't expected her to say such things to him.
At this moment, the way she looked at him was full of vulnerability and helplessness.
Brandon felt his heart being squeezed tight.
He couldn't help but pull her into his arms, softly comforting her, "I understand. They're very, very important to you. Don't be afraid. Caspian is blessed and lucky—he'll definitely be fine."
"As for those who hurt Caspian, I'll handle them for you. Those assassins—I'll take care of them! Remember what I told you last night?"
"I want you to be a queen. Whatever you want to do, just tell me, and I'll do it. Whether it's those hidden forces or people in the Mortimer family who bully you, I won't let any of them off!"
As he said this, Brandon's eyes flashed with a sharp, intimidating look.
It was the kind of dominance that comes from standing at the pinnacle of power!
Candice didn't see it.
But she could feel it in Brandon's tone.
Suddenly, her tears could no longer be held back and fell.
She knew she shouldn't be like this.
She'd been rejecting him all along, but at this moment, she couldn't help but depend on him.
From him, she felt an unprecedented sense of security.
As if Brandon were all-powerful.
She didn't pull away from his embrace, just leaned against him obediently, her breath surrounded and enveloped by his scent.
The sense of security he transmitted gradually dissolved all her fear and anxiety.
