Chapter 318 Be Good, I'm Here

After sending the children away, Candice turned to look at Caspian and asked him nervously, "Caspian, are you sure you've found that person?"

Caspian nodded, understanding Candice's feelings. He said, "I did find some leads. That doctor left the country after resigning that year, and then moved around several times, changing hospitals, as if afraid of being traced. It took me quite a bit of effort."

At this point, Caspian frowned. "During this time, I had people secretly investigate inside the hospital, but found no flaws. So this should be the only breakthrough! That doctor recently appeared in Silverpeak City, Marigoldia. I need to go there myself to find out what really happened back then."

After learning about this, the family naturally wouldn't stop him.

Gabriel said in a deep voice, "In that case, you should make the trip. It's better to handle this matter yourself to be sure."

"Dad's right!"

The others all agreed.

Finnegan asked from the side, "Will one week be enough time?"

Caspian said, "Yes, I'll definitely make it back for Candy's birthday, don't worry."

Listening to Caspian worrying about her matters and still planning to rush back for her birthday, Candice felt an unspoken gratitude in her heart.

"Caspian, thank you for all this trouble, going through so much for my sake."

Hearing this, Caspian smiled gently and said, "Why so formal? You're my sister. Doing anything for you is what I should do."

After speaking, he affectionately ruffled her hair.

Candice felt incredibly warm inside.

Ainsley also said, "In that case, leave early so you can come back sooner."

Caspian nodded, "I'll arrange work this morning and leave for abroad this afternoon."

"Alright." Gabriel instructed, "Contact home immediately if anything comes up."

"Okay."

The matter was settled just like that.

After breakfast, Caspian soon left for the company.

Watching Caspian's car drive away, Candice didn't know why, but she felt an inexplicable unease in her heart, and her eyelids began to twitch.

Though it was just a brief moment, her emotions were still somewhat affected.

It was probably because it involved what happened when Elijah was taken away that year, so she cared especially about it.

If it really was someone from the Mortimer family who did it back then, what could their motive have been?

Could it really have been just fear that the child would come to the Mortimer family to compete for inheritance?

Although Candice was worried and confused inside, she didn't show it on her face.

Anyway, once the results came out, her parents and brothers would definitely give her justice.

Besides, Caspian had already set out.

With his abilities, the truth would surely come to light before long!

Maybe it wouldn't even take a week—three or four days might be enough.

However, Candice was thinking too simply about this matter.

After Caspian left, five days passed without him resolving things there.

Seeing his slow progress, Gabriel called to ask about the situation.

On the other end of the phone, Caspian didn't go into detail, only briefly telling Gabriel, "That guy's a bit slippery, and after years abroad, he's built his own network, so it's taking a bit more effort."

Actually, Caspian was being somewhat conservative.

To be precise, after he went abroad, the information seemed to leak quickly.

This led to the doctor escaping in advance, being extremely cunning. This situation was far trickier than imagined.

Gabriel vaguely guessed the situation and instructed Caspian, "Time's running out. If you're not confident, come back first and just leave people there!"

"I know. At the latest, I'll arrive on Candy's birthday."

Caspian didn't want to waste too much time there either.

Gabriel said, "Alright."

Candice was nearby, listening to Gabriel's call with Caspian. For some reason, the unease she had previously suppressed became even stronger.

That evening, she had just finished showering and was preparing to rest.

Brandon suddenly video-called her again.

Because she had things on her mind, she forgot to avoid him for a moment and answered directly.

This actually surprised Brandon on the other end.

"Not avoiding me anymore?" His magnetic, textured voice came through the phone.

Hearing this familiar voice, Candice didn't know why, but her somewhat floating and anxious heart suddenly felt held, with a sense of security she hadn't even noticed herself.

Brandon immediately noticed something was wrong with her and asked right away, "What's wrong? Your expression looks off. Did something happen?"

His voice pulled Candice's thoughts back.

She shook her head and responded, "No, nothing's wrong."

But Brandon frowned, "Your expression doesn't look like nothing's wrong. Did someone from the Mortimer family bully you? Or is there some problem with your birthday party?"

He'd been abroad for almost half a month. Although he couldn't see her in person, Brandon had actually been having people monitor what was happening in Silverlight City.

He knew Candice's situation quite well.

He had just asked people in Silverlight City today, and there shouldn't have been any issues.

Could something have been overlooked?

Brandon's frown deepened.

Seeing him ask so many questions in a row and his expression becoming serious, Candice quickly said, "No, really, no one's bullying me. My birthday party is currently well-arranged, no problems."

Brandon pressed on, "Then what's going on? If it's not your problem, is it Elijah and Yasmin's?"

It had to be said, his guess was alarmingly accurate.

Candice's whole body trembled.

Brandon immediately understood.

"Looks like it is. Then you should tell me even more."

Candice didn't make a sound. Even she couldn't sort out her own thoughts about this matter.

Seeing her silence, Brandon thought she was unwilling to tell him.

He coaxed, "Elijah and Yasmin are our children. I have the right and responsibility to face this together with you, Candy.

Tell me, okay? Don't keep problems bottled up inside. Tell me, and we'll solve them together."

Perhaps his expression was too gentle, or maybe his demeanor had a certain persuasive quality—Candice actually felt for a moment that what he said made sense.

So after hesitating for a while, she told him about it.

Her tone was somewhat uneasy as she said, "Caspian's been gone for several days and hasn't come back. I don't know why, but I have a really bad feeling."

Brandon asked, "You're saying Caspian is in Silverpeak City?"

"Yes." Candice nodded.

"What a coincidence."

Brandon smiled and reassured her, "I just came here yesterday for business. Since you're worried, I'll have people look into this matter. The Mortimer family's foundation abroad is relatively weak, so Caspian might be somewhat restricted in handling things."

Candice perked up and couldn't help asking, "Is that okay?"

Brandon smiled gently and said, "Why wouldn't it be? This is investigating Elijah's matter to begin with. As Elijah's father, I should be involved even more. You should have told me about this earlier."

Brandon didn't mean to blame her for hiding it, and continued coaxing, "Be good, don't worry. Caspian will definitely be fine. I'm here."

His reassurance had a convincing power.

After listening, Candice's worried and unsettled heart somehow calmed down.

She nodded, not refusing his kindness, "Thank you then."

"No trouble at all."

Brandon coaxed her, "Go to sleep now, it's already late. Don't overthink things. I'll notify you immediately if there's any news. In a couple days, on your birthday, I'll be back."

Hearing this, Candice didn't know why, but her previous worries suddenly vanished!

She quickly nodded, hung up the phone, felt drowsy, and then had a good night's sleep.

Perhaps Brandon's reassurance worked, because over the next two days, Candice's mood stabilized somewhat.

Because Brandon didn't break his word—he really would report the situation there to her regularly.

This morning, Candice received another message from him.

"Already found Caspian's whereabouts. My people are also checking on that doctor's location. All is well, don't worry."

Candice found this feeling very wonderful.

Having someone report and inform her of developments daily actually made her feel incredibly at ease.

Right up until the night before her birthday party, Brandon sent her another message.

"Returning home tomorrow morning. No progress on the doctor yet, but Caspian seems to be returning home too. We might be on the same flight."

Almost at the same time she received Brandon's message, Candice also got a message from Caspian.

The content was similar to Brandon's.

"Early morning flight tomorrow, will definitely make it to your birthday party tonight. Just a pity there's no progress on that matter yet."

Seeing the latter part of the message, Candice didn't feel too disappointed.

After all, it had been so many years ago. It really was tricky to investigate.

But it was fine—as long as Caspian could come back.

Candice replied to Caspian, "Just come back safely. Don't rush that matter. We'll take our time. There will be a result eventually."
