Chapter 312 Likes Being Tested by Her

Chapter 312 Likes Being Tested by Her

After dinner, Knox went to get the car while Candice and Brandon waited at the restaurant entrance.

Yasmin and Elijah's attention was drawn to the decorations at the restaurant entrance. Brandon took the opportunity to gently squeeze Candice's hand and asked in a low voice, "Elijah and Yasmin said they'll miss me. What about you? Will you miss me?"

Candice was stunned for a moment, then stubbornly replied, "You're overthinking it. Why would I miss you? The research institute keeps me very busy. I don't have that kind of free time."

Brandon acknowledged this and asked again, "What about at night after work?"

"Of course not!"

Hearing this answer, Brandon sighed, his tone becoming a bit dejected. "Really? But I'll miss you a lot. Especially late at night, I'll think how nice it would be if you were by my side. I'll think about how nice it would be to hold you while sleeping, and I'll also think about..."

The more Candice listened, the more she felt his words were heading in an inappropriate direction. She immediately cut him off, "Shut up! What kind of nonsense are you thinking about late at night instead of sleeping?"

Brandon chuckled softly and said, "Nothing inappropriate - I'm thinking about you!"

Candice was becoming numb to Brandon's sweet talk that came so easily.

Now that he'd become aware of his feelings, he really dared to say anything. She didn't even know how to respond.

Brandon chuckled lightly, not really expecting any particular response from Candice anyway.

After all, he was currently in the position of a pursuer. As a pursuer, since Candice hadn't agreed to get back together, whatever reaction she had was normal.

Besides, he actually liked that Candice was testing him this way.

At least it gave him more opportunities to make up for how he'd wronged her before.

With this thought, Brandon kept his fingers hooked around Candice's and wouldn't let go.

Until Knox brought the car around. After getting in, Brandon drove them directly back to the Mortimer Mansion.

Upon arrival, Candice got out with the children and said goodbye to Brandon.

Brandon also got out and gave each of the little ones a hug. "Daddy's leaving now. You two be good and listen to Mommy."

Elijah and Yasmin told Brandon, "We'll be good, Daddy. Don't work all the time - it's too tiring. You need to rest too."

Yasmin was more direct, telling Brandon, "We'll miss you!"

Brandon smiled, "Daddy will miss you too."

Then he stood up and planted a kiss on Candice's lips as well. "See you in half a month."

Just as he finished speaking, Caspian's car also returned.

He had clearly seen what just happened and had the driver honk the horn - a warning if there ever was one.

Candice felt incredibly guilty and quickly jumped back, keeping her distance from Brandon.

Brandon remained calm, even nodding toward Caspian's car as a greeting before getting in his car and leaving.

When entering the house, Candice clearly noticed Caspian's expression was somewhat serious.

She felt a bit nervous, worried that Caspian would confront her about it.

Just then, she heard her parents discussing some kind of party.

Caspian didn't press her with questions, his attention shifting to the party discussion first.

"Mom, what party are you talking about?"

Seeing her children come in, Ainsley said with a smile, "Well, now that Elijah has been recognized and brought back into the family, your father and I have been discussing throwing a party. But we just realized today that our Candy's birthday is coming up soon too. They're only twenty days apart, so your father, your two brothers, and I were discussing whether we should just combine them."

Then Ainsley asked Candice, "Candy, what do you think?"

Hearing this news, Candice didn't really have any objections.

In the years since she'd returned home, her family had always made her birthday celebrations quite grand.

It was basically a way to send a message to the outside world, letting everyone know how much the Mortimer family valued her.

Plus, after missing out on so many years of care, her parents always wanted to give her the best.

After thinking it over, Candice told Ainsley, "I think combining them is fine. Either way works for me."

Mainly, if these two parties were held separately, it would seem too high-profile.

Then some of the Mortimer family relatives would have complaints about them again.

After listening, Caspian pondered for a few seconds, then also told Ainsley, "Alright, the parties can be combined. However, the scale should be expanded. This year we can invite more people to attend."

Hearing this, Candice was somewhat surprised and couldn't help asking, "Caspian, why invite so many people? It's just a birthday party - it doesn't need to be that grand."

She actually didn't really like occasions like parties and receptions.

Whether attending or hosting, you couldn't avoid socializing, and it was quite tiring throughout.

When her family wanted to host, she couldn't refuse their kind intentions, but in the past, the scale was always kept as small as possible, just inviting some close friends and family.

She hadn't expected Caspian to say they should invite many people this year.

Caspian calmly replied, "You don't socialize much usually, which means some people out there still don't know you. The other day at the racetrack was a perfect example. To avoid some clueless people bullying you in the future, we should take this opportunity to invite more people and raise your profile."

With this explanation, no one suspected his motives.

Caspian was looking out for her, and Candice could understand that.

After listening, Ulysses also agreed wholeheartedly, "I think Caspian's right, Candy. Just follow Caspian's arrangements."

Gabriel and Ainsley also felt Caspian had a point.

Candy would be living in Silverlight City in the future - they definitely couldn't let some clueless people bully her.

So the matter was settled.

Candice had played with the children all day and was a bit tired, so she took them upstairs to bathe.

After they went upstairs, Finnegan looked at Caspian and asked, "Do you have some ulterior motive for Candy's birthday party?"

His words drew the attention of Ulysses and the others nearby.

Caspian had no intention of hiding it from them and said, "Just now outside, I saw Brandon kiss Candy. He's most likely still not giving up on her. So I want to use this opportunity to invite more outstanding young men. If Candy doesn't like anyone from the ten great families, that's fine. We can expand the range. There are so many excellent people in Silverlight City - what if there's someone Candy likes?"

After these words, the Mortimer family members all fell silent.

Ulysses asked hesitantly, "Caspian, wouldn't this be inappropriate? If Candy finds out, won't she be unhappy?"

Caspian glanced at him and said in a deep voice, "There's nothing inappropriate about it. It's just making friends - we're not making her marry someone right away."

After saying this, Caspian looked at him with disdain. "Today at the amusement park when you were recognized, you don't really think that was an accident, do you?"

Ulysses had a matter-of-fact expression and said, "What's so strange about that? I'm so popular, my fans have sharp eyes. Even if I was wearing a burlap sack, they could recognize me."

Caspian was speechless.

He felt Ulysses's intelligence was somewhat questionable.

Finnegan quickly caught on, but he didn't offer suggestions. Instead, he asked Ainsley and Gabriel, "Mom, Dad, what do you think?"

Ainsley and Gabriel were silent for a while.

The former sighed, "After all, Candy and Brandon still have two children between them. It's normal that her emotions are somewhat affected."

Gabriel also nodded, "However, I think Caspian's arrangement isn't necessarily a bad idea. There are plenty of outstanding young men - we can look around more. Our Candy has such good qualities - let her be more selective. If there really isn't anyone suitable, then in the end we can only let her decide for herself!"

At this point, Gabriel looked at Caspian with a serious expression, "Let me say this upfront - don't force Candy to make choices she doesn't like. Everything must be according to her wishes!"

He didn't approve of doing things that made children unhappy under the pretext of "it's for their own good."

This applied equally to his three sons and his only daughter.
