Chapter 309 I Have Endured for a Long Time, I Don't Want to Endure Anymore
On the way, Ulysses brought up last night's incident and said to Candice, "If I'd known, I would've come back last night. If I'd been there, I would've taken care of Rhett myself. Brandon wouldn't have gotten the chance to show off."
He was still unhappy that Brandon had stolen the spotlight.
Candice couldn't help but laugh. "Ulysses, why are you still going on about this? It's over. Don't talk about it in front of the kids."
Candice didn't want the children to be affected by adult matters.
They were still keeping the dangerous incident at the race track from the two little ones.
Ulysses realized this and quickly said, "Got it, I'll stop. We haven't seen each other in so long—let me tell you about some funny things that happened on the show."
The two chatted all the way, with Candice mostly listening to him talk.
Which guest misunderstood something during a task, what jokes happened.
Even the two little ones were giggling non-stop.
After more than twenty minutes, they finally arrived at the restaurant Brandon had booked.
This restaurant was famous throughout Silverlight City and only served about ten tables a day.
Inside, they'd created a natural garden landscape with elegant traditional-style architecture.
The decor was luxurious, and the private rooms were spacious.
When they arrived, Brandon was already waiting.
The two little ones ran over as soon as they saw him.
"Daddy!"
The two little ones called out happily.
Ulysses frowned and asked Candice, "What's he doing here?"
Candice paused before remembering they hadn't told Ulysses yet.
She quickly explained, "We're letting the kids see him today. They'll play together this afternoon, and he's leaving tonight."
Ulysses felt the same way as Caspian—both thought Brandon was up to no good.
He claimed to be here to see the kids, but who knew if he was really after Candice.
But Ulysses didn't say much and walked forward with Candice.
Brandon had already bent down to hug the two little ones. His cold expression softened as he looked at them and asked, "How have you been these past two weeks? Have you been good and listened to your mom?"
Elijah nodded. "We've been great!"
Yasmin also nodded and said, "We've been very good! What about you, Daddy? Have you been busy?"
"A bit busy."
Brandon touched his forehead to Yasmin's and answered.
Elijah's little mouth curved upward.
Though he didn't say he missed him, his small movements clearly showed dependence—both little hands clutching Brandon tightly.
Candice noticed.
She walked over and ruffled Elijah's hair.
Ulysses still didn't give Brandon much attention.
But Brandon didn't mind. He invited everyone to sit and had Knox call for the food to be served.
Soon, the table was full of dishes that the two little ones and Candice loved.
Brandon said to Ulysses, "Ulysses, I didn't know what you like, so I didn't order your favorites. See if there's anything you want to eat."
Seeing that he'd ordered what Candice and the kids liked, Ulysses thought it was quite thoughtful and didn't immediately notice that Brandon had changed how he addressed him.
Candice noticed.
Her expression froze slightly.
What had Brandon just called Ulysses?
Ulysses?
If she remembered correctly, he'd still been calling Caspian "Mr. Mortimer" last night.
Candice looked at Brandon in surprise.
Knox saw everything and thought: They're going to be family sooner or later anyway.
If circumstances allowed, Brandon probably would've started calling him Caspian yesterday.
But Caspian wasn't as easy to fool as Ulysses, so Brandon was probably starting with the easiest target!
Brandon was truly calculating.
Brandon sensed Candice's gaze.
He looked up and met her eyes, his expression meaningful.
For some reason, Candice suddenly understood, and her ears grew warm.
He really had gotten shameless!
She wondered if Ulysses would throw him out once he realized.
Fortunately, Ulysses didn't have time to react because the dishes were quickly all served.
A table full of delicious food. After serving, the waitstaff didn't rush to leave but asked if they needed help peeling shrimp or removing fish bones.
But Brandon sent them away.
He was worried Candice and the kids would feel uncomfortable, so he'd handle the service himself.
He was fair—whatever the two little ones got, Candice got too.
Ulysses watched Brandon being so attentive and narrowed his eyes slightly.
After Brandon finished removing the bones and was about to put the fish in Candice's bowl, he intervened.
Ulysses warned, "Don't try to butter up my sister in front of me. No matter what you do, the Mortimer family will never change our opinion of you."
Brandon calmly replied, "You're overthinking it. I'm just doing some work. If you mind, Ulysses, I can serve you instead."
Then he turned his hand and put the fish meant for Candice into Ulysses's bowl.
Brandon was using serving utensils, and the plates were all clean. Ulysses had planned to act aloof to make Brandon feel he was unattainable.
But Elijah leaned over and whispered, "Uncle Ulysses, it's rare to be able to boss my dad around. This is a great opportunity—don't feel sorry for him."
After hearing this, Ulysses immediately changed his mind.
Elijah was right.
Brandon had treated Candice so badly before—wasn't it only right to make him work now?
Besides, who in this world could boss Brandon around? It really was a rare opportunity.
Ulysses changed his tune: "Really? Then keep going."
Brandon responded lightly and continued taking care of Candice's meal without concern.
Candice watched the exchange between the two men and was speechless for a moment.
She realized Ulysses seemed a bit... not too bright, being tricked without even knowing it.
When Ulysses wasn't paying attention, she couldn't help but glance at Brandon again.
Brandon's lips curved slightly toward her, and between them was an indescribable sense of secrecy and intimacy.
The two little ones saw it all, their expressions cheerful.
Only Ulysses remained innocent.
So the meal ended in strange harmony.
Before leaving the restaurant, Candice went to the restroom to touch up her makeup.
Seeing this, Brandon delayed a moment, then said, "I'll go wash my hands and settle the bill. Then we'll head straight to Happy Valley."
"Okay!"
"I have so many things I want to play! I want Uncle Ulysses to play with me later!"
The two little ones responded sweetly. Yasmin took the opportunity to charm Ulysses, making his smile even brighter.
He'd wanted to stop Brandon, but hearing Brandon say he was going to pay the bill, he said nothing.
Plus, his attention was on Yasmin as he started chatting with her about what to play next.
After leaving the private room, Brandon headed to the restroom.
It was quite far from the restroom—you had to turn down a quiet pebble path.
Trees grew along the path, and the environment was beautiful, with a small arched bridge nearby.
Just as Brandon walked onto the bridge, Candice happened to be coming from the other side.
The moment he saw her, Brandon's lips curved into a smile, and he stopped moving, as if waiting for her specifically.
Candice naturally saw him too.
She walked calmly onto the bridge and reminded him, "You're blocking my way."
The bridge could actually fit two people, but Brandon was deliberately standing in the middle, blocking Candice's path.
Brandon acknowledged this, his voice magnetic as he said, "There's a toll to cross."
Candice felt helpless. "Are you robbing people now? Are you a bandit?"
Brandon smiled slightly and said, "I am indeed a bandit, but I don't rob money—only beauty."
"Beauty?"
Candice was confused. Before she could react, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her.
She immediately felt embarrassed and annoyed. "You're doing this again! I just put on lipstick!"
Brandon's lips curved as he said, "It's fine. I'm just getting a small fix. Ulysses has been watching all day—I've been holding back for so long, I don't want to anymore!"
With that, he pulled her closer and deepened the kiss.
"Brandon, you—!"
Candice pushed at him, trying to refuse, but with her mouth covered, she couldn't say anything.
Brandon even reminded her in a low voice, "This isn't too far from the private room. Keep it down, or you'll attract Ulysses."
At this reminder, Candice's body tensed, and she immediately didn't dare move.
Seeing her behave, Brandon was very satisfied and continued pressing against her soft lips, gently teasing.
Candice felt that Brandon had no intention of stopping at just a taste.
His kiss was sometimes light, sometimes heavy, sometimes biting with dissatisfaction.
It felt like he was expressing some emotion, making demands.
