Chapter 124 Choose Me as Your Boyfriend
Opal watched Brandon start to get anxious, a mysterious smile playing at the corners of her eyes.
Brandon didn't plan to stay any longer and said to Opal, "I'll take them back first. You do as you please."
Then he called out to Elijah and Yasmin over there, "Let's go!"
Yasmin and Elijah both nodded and ran over on their little legs.
Soon after, the four of them left.
After Finnian watched them leave, he immediately sidled up to Opal and said, "Grandma, you did that on purpose just now, didn't you?"
Opal didn't deny it and said cheerfully, "Brandon is so clueless. He's made things so tense between them. Someone needs to give him a push. Candice is actually quite easygoing, but she has some hurt feelings that need time to heal. Brandon needs a wake-up call."
Finnian stroked his chin and nodded, thinking it made a lot of sense.
He said, "So I've been helping out too. Did you see? Plus, Elijah has been wanting her to be his mom for a while now. He was trying to set them up before!"
"Really?"
Opal didn't know about this. She was quite surprised and quickly asked, "When was this?"
Finnian answered, "When she was treating Brandon's eyes."
Opal was stunned. "Wait, you mean that Dr. Mandy from before was Candice?"
Finnian nodded and replied matter-of-factly, "Yeah, who else could it be?"
"It was her!"
Opal was shocked, but at the same time felt it made sense. "If that's true, then the Obelon family owes her even more."
Her expression suddenly became serious. She raised her hand and patted Finnian's back, saying, "Finnian, you and Brandon are close. Keep an eye on him when you can! In other areas, Brandon is better than you, but when it comes to feelings, I think you're way smarter than him. Help him out when you have time.
Look at him - besides being secretly jealous, he probably doesn't even know how to express his feelings."
Hearing this, Finnian immediately patted his chest in assurance, "Don't worry, I'll definitely help Brandon out."
The two of them were planning enthusiastically on their end.
On the other side, Candice was completely confused about being taken away.
She couldn't quite understand Brandon's reaction just now.
Opal wasn't trying to set him up with a boyfriend - why did he overreact like that?
Besides, even if she really agreed to let Opal introduce her to someone, what did it have to do with him?
Why did he take it upon himself to refuse for her?
While Brandon was driving, Candice kept looking at him, wanting to say something but holding back.
Brandon naturally noticed and spoke up, "If you have something to say, just say it."
Candice frowned slightly and asked directly, "What did you mean by what you said to Mrs. Obelon just now? Why do you get to decide?"
Brandon's thin lips pressed together tightly, as if he didn't know how to answer.
He was silent for a while before saying flatly, "I refused for you, and you're still not happy? What, do you actually want Grandma to set you up with someone?"
Candice glanced at him and said coolly, "If there's someone suitable, it wouldn't be out of the question."
Brandon was speechless at her words.
His face darkened as he said, "You really believe that? What good men could those grandsons of her friends be? Either they're ugly, or they're incompetent, or they've been married several times and are into drinking, gambling, and all sorts of bad stuff.
Grandma's just bored and messing around. Don't listen to her! If you're going to pick any of those guys, you might as well pick me!"
That last sentence almost slipped out of Brandon's mouth.
Unfortunately, a street cleaning truck happened to pass by right then.
Because of the loud noise, Candice didn't hear it.
However, she heard the earlier part clearly.
She looked at Brandon with suspicious eyes.
Was that really true?
She'd known Opal for so long, and Opal's character should be trustworthy.
On the other hand, his words weren't very credible.
But Candice wasn't really looking for a boyfriend anyway - she was just contradicting him, so she didn't respond.
Seeing her suddenly go quiet, Brandon couldn't help but frown.
What was going on with her?
Why wasn't she saying anything?
She didn't really want to find a boyfriend, did she?
Because of his inner doubts, Brandon's brow furrowed, and the atmosphere around him grew heavy.
Candice didn't notice.
She moved past that topic and asked him, "Did you bring Elijah's luggage?"
Brandon said in a not-so-pleasant tone, "I did."
"That's good then."
Candice nodded, as if she hadn't noticed his bad mood at all.
Soon, the car arrived at Candice's place.
When they got out, Brandon went to the back to help with the luggage.
Two huge suitcases!
Candice looked at them in disbelief.
Elijah was just staying for a short while - why did it look like he was moving?
Did he bring all his stuff?
She couldn't help asking, "What's in the suitcases? Why so much?"
Brandon pointed to one of them and said, "This one has Elijah's everyday clothes, pajamas, and shoes. The other suitcase has things he likes to eat, drink, and use, plus some toys."
Well, that was pretty thorough.
After Brandon carried the things inside, he said to her, "If you're still missing anything, just let me know, and I'll bring it over."
Candice nodded slightly and replied, "Okay."
Having said what he needed to say, Brandon had no excuse to stay longer.
Before leaving, he said goodbye to Elijah, "I'm leaving now. Be good here, okay?"
Elijah was holding his toy and completely ignored him.
Brandon couldn't help but pinch his soft little face and asked, "Aren't you going to say goodbye to me?"
Only then did Elijah give some reaction.
He pouted his lips, which counted as a response.
Brandon felt somewhat helpless.
Yasmin was on the side, covering her mouth and giggling.
She thought Brandon was so pitiful!
However, as the host, she still sweetly said goodbye to him, "Drive carefully on your way!"
Getting her reminder, Brandon's gloomy mood finally improved.
He said to her in a gentle tone, "Okay, Yasmin is so much better behaved. Girls really are more likable."
That last sentence seemed to be said for Elijah to hear.
Elijah snorted coldly, looking very disdainful.
He walked over and tugged on Candice's clothes, his attitude seeming to say that I also thought Candice was more likable than Brandon!
Candice watched the father and son compete with each other and found it amusing.
She quickly raised her hand to comfort Elijah, "Don't listen to your dad's nonsense. I think girls and boys are equally likable, especially cute and sweet kids like Yasmin and Elijah. I really like them!"
That one sentence made him bloom with joy.
He even proudly raised his chin at Brandon and said in a sweet childlike voice, "She said she likes me, not you!"
Elijah finally spoke to Brandon.
But what he said was kind of asking for a beating.
Brandon once again felt the urge to give Elijah a spanking.
