The Moment We've Been Waiting For (Part II)

After the speeches and toasts, each couple took to the dance floor. As Elijah swayed Rachel around the room, he saw her pout. “What’s wrong, Baby?” he asked, and she flew into a ramble.

“Oh my God, I’m so damn fat. Do I look good in my matron of honor dress? Oh my God, don’t answer that. I probably look like a whale.”

Elijah clasped her face. “Baby, look at me. Let me tell you something. When I first saw you, I remember thinking it was impossible for someone to be more beautiful. Now that I see you pregnant with our child, I realize I was completely wrong.”

Her entire face brightened, and she kissed him. “Thank you, that means so much to me.” Continuing their dance, he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Hey there, son,” Terrence said to him, smiling.

“Hey dad. Loving the suit.”

“Yeah, well, ya mama wouldn’t let me leave our new house without wearing something out of the closet. Don’t know what you put all those new clothes in there, anyway.”

“Just in case you ever need them. They came with the house, and I cannot get a refund. Plus, I get that you and mama still want you to travel, but I want you to be close when you return. So don’t give me a hard time for wanting to be near my parents.”

Terrence scoffed. “Alright, well, if you can’t take the clothes back, I guess I’ll wear the stuff. Your mama loves the house, and you know I love your mama.” Pushing himself to admit his feelings, he murmured, “And I love you too.”

Rachel nudged Elijah. “There’s one more thing I can’t undo. Rachel brought it to my attention that your grandchild should have your last name. So, meet the Mays family. Mama helped us make it official.” It was the first time Elijah ever saw full-drawn tears fall from Terrence’s eyes.

“You did that for me?”

“Only a fraction of what you did for me.” Elijah beamed at him. “And I love you too, dad.”

They hugged tightly, and Rachel looked at the man she married, her heart filled with pride. Pulling out his phone, Terrence showed Elijah a picture, and his face paled.

“When we found out we were going to California, we decided it was the best place to give you your late wedding present. Annie sewed all the parts together. It was a little hard spelling congratulations out of heads, but your mama made me proud.”

Elijah’s face went green. As Terrence tried to show Rachel the picture, he moved it away. “I-I love it. Send it to me. I’ll show it to her later, then delete it.”

“I gotcha. Can’t prove nothing if you got nothing,” Terrence said and walked away.

“Did he and Annie kill in California?” Rachel asked.

Waltzing her around, Elijah tried to remove the imagery of decapitated heads from his mind. “Allegedly, and I’m never showing you that picture.”

“Don’t be mad at me on our wedding day, Little Red,” Sterling whined into Morgan’s neck as Jordan and he swayed her around the floor.

She huffed. “I’m going to let it go because I’m Beyonce and she doesn’t hold grudges, but your stupid shit upstaged my announcement.”

Jordan arched his eyebrow. “What announcement?”

“Welllll Rachel and Elijah aren’t the only ones who are going to have a child.” Watching Sterling and Jordan’s smile widened, she fell in love all over again.

“I’m going to be a dad?” Jordan asked, grinning, and she nodded.

“Hey everyone! We’re having a baby! I shot the club up! Wait, d-did I use that right, Little Red? I heard it in Baltimore and googled it. Apparently, it has three meanings. Getting someone pregnant, actually shooting a gun in the club, and well”—Sterling tried to whisper—“ejaculating—”

Unable to hold it in, she cackled loudly. “Oh my God, please stop talking. I can’t believe you just said that.”

“I’m sorry. I got too excited. Are you mad?”

She shook her head. “My Mad Jester and my Alpha, you both—” She patted her chest in sync with them.

“No wonder you aren’t frowny anymore,” Gerald said as he pulled at Jordan from behind. He placed his hands on both of his son’s shoulders. “I thought Sterling’s idiotic beam was because you all got hitched, but now I see it’s because you’ve been getting freaky. I’m not even upset that you two weren’t wearing condoms. Sometimes you have to just go with the flow. Plus, I’m getting me a grandchild. I say that the three-way tango did a lot of good. Congratulations!”

Doris rubbed her forehead. “This is why I do not take you in public. Look at how you’re embarrassing our sons in front of our new daughter. I apologize for his tact, but I am excited about my grandchild.”

“It’s fine,” Morgan said, laughing. “I see where Sterling gets it from.”

“I’m not that bad,” Sterling grumbled.

“It took you less than two hours to tell our friends and family that we have anal se—”

“Okay!” he shouted, waving his hands. “But it’s really not my fault. Jordan dared me to say it. You know how immature he can be.”

“You lying little shit!” Jordan yelled and wrapped his hands around Sterling’s throat. Squeezing it, he ignored Sterling swatting at him to get him off. “I told you to stop pissing me off, didn’t I?!”

As Jordan strangled the life out of his little brother, and subsequently, himself, Doris whispered to Morgan, “See that, dear? Welcome to your forever.”

Their fight dissolved, and Sterling pouted, eventually getting Jordan to laugh. “I’m looking forward to it,” she said, grinning as Jordan placed a noogie into Sterling’s hair.

Finding their baby sister, Morgan and Rachel happily approached Alexus. Seeing them, she turned up her nose. “No offense, but you’re both pregnant. Fucking ew.”

Rachel teased, “At least we’re getting some.”

They could have sworn they heard her growl. “Fuck off,” she said. Two people caught their eyes, and they worked overtime to maintain their composure.

“Logan?”

“Hey Morgan, long time no see. Congrats!”

“What are you doing here?”

He showed her the mark behind his ear. “I’m actually mated to Bethany.”

Bethany approached them. “I didn’t know you knew them,” she said.

Morgan stifled her laugh. “So, Logan, are you still making sock puppets?”

“Don’t be so primitive. My baby makes art.” Rachel nudged Alexus, who covered her mouth.

Reaching out, Morgan grabbed Bethany’s arm and leaned in close so only she could hear. “I never thanked you for your help. Regardless of what we’ve been through, you showed up when I needed you.”

Bethany moved her arm away. “Don’t think just because I showed up means we’re friends or something. I showed up for Dark Moon.” She paused and then leaned closer to her Luna. “You better not tell anyone what I’m about to say. I’m sorry for playing that trick on you with the costume, but I’m not sorry about how it all turned out. I’m proud to have you as my Luna. You were made to lead, and are the mate they needed.” She saw Morgan’s eyes widen, and she leaned in once again. “And you look fabulous in that dress. You better not tell anyone I said that, either.”

As Bethany and Logan walked away, Rachel tapped Morgan hard. “What’s the matter?” Instead of answering, she nudged her head towards Alexus, who was staring at a man who stood across the room.

“Dance with him, Lexy. He’s been eyeing you all night,” Rachel said, pulling her out of her trance.

He winked at Alexus, making her heart fall to her shoes. “Y’all sure he’s looking at me?”

“Girl, who the fuck else he looking at?!” Morgan exclaimed.

“Okay, wish me luck.” Gathering her courage, Alexus slowly walked over to the stranger. “Hello,” she said.

He leaned in, and his lips grazed her ear. “Don’t be shy. Dance with me.” Pulling her to the dance floor, he pressed her body close to his. “You’re gorgeous.”

Heat ebbed her cheeks. “Thank you.” She’d never seen anyone so attractive. The first thing she noticed was the ocean blue of his eyes. They fixated on her, containing a smokey darkness that made him mysteriously intimidating but also very alluring. He had stark blonde hair that was cut down and raked backwards, with chiseled features and the faint etching of age lines that told her he was older.

“I’m Demetri,” he said.

“Alexus.”

He flicked her ear with his tongue, causing her to shiver. “Beautiful name.”

Heat permeated from her body. The connection between them felt almost electric. “I don’t know if this is too forward, but maybe we should slip away for a bit?”

He chuckled. “Very brazen of you. My place isn’t far.”

Watching Alexus walk hand in hand with her handsome suitor, Rachel and Morgan smiled. She pulled out her phone and mouthed to them, “Sending y’all my location.”

“She’s getting ready to knock the headboard on his ass,” Rachel said, laughing. Jordan, Sterling, and Elijah joined them.

“Who are you talking about?” Elijah asked.

“Alexus. I think she found her wedding sex,” Morgan said.

Sterling retched. “Not on my fucking wedding day, please.”

Jordan chuckled. “Who’s the lucky suitor?”

“Tall, dark, and handsome with the blonde hair and the red rose in his pocket.”

His face ashened, and he turned to Sterling and Elijah’s, whose faces were just as white. “Are you talking about Demetri?!”

“I don’t know, but what’s the problem? You don’t know Alexus. She will literally kill him, plus we have her location.”

Sterling frantically dialed their numbers. “Fuck! He isn’t picking up, and neither is she!”

“What’s going on?!”

“Morgan. Demetri is the reason for the new construction you’ve been saying is an eyesore,” Jordan said.

“I don’t understand.”

“He’s a distant friend of the family. You know how humans depict werewolves and vampires as hating one other? It’s not true. We’re actually pretty close.”

Morgan’s body shook as she watched Sterling feverishly dial repeatedly. “What does that have to do with Alexus?!”

“Demetri is moving his clan here. He’s the Primus, the leader of the vampires. They were all at our wedding. Alexus’s toast…Morgan, he isn’t like me, Sterling or Elijah. If Alexus is with him, she’s in serious danger.”

As the car pulled up to the enormous castle, Demetri leaned into Alexus. “I find myself entranced with you,” he said, kissing her neck. “The way you look, the way you smell, how you talk.” Leaning up, he ran his lips against hers. “Your toast. It moved me. Especially the part about vampires. Come on, Little One, repeat your thoughts on vampires for me again. Please, I found them extremely riveting.”
