Chapter Twenty-Four — There’s No Way I’d Let Her Go

Will’s POV:

Right after Irene left my office I received an urgent call from my dad that I have to come over to see him and it was really urgent. It sounded almost as if he was in danger or had an issue with his Bp again. I tried calling Irene’s office to let her know that I was leaving but she was already in the hall with executives so I decided to just go, since I would be coming back to work anyways.

Immediately I got to the house I noticed a couple of hefty men hanging around and this made me even more scared. I hope Dad was fine. He has to. I mean, no matter how much we have disagreements on things I needed him right here by my side, I couldn’t even run the company alone.

I rushed in immediately and asked the first maid I saw about him and if he was fine. She didn’t give a reply and just asked me to head to his Library.

“Dad” I said as I walked over to where he was seated. He was in his usual seat and he looked fine and very healthy. So what was the urgent stuff he called to talk about.

“What’s going on Dad?” I asked.

“I’m simply saving you from making a life time mistake Will” he said.

“What! Dad I don’t understand” I replied.

I was really confused what was he talking about. I felt my phone vibrate and checked to see a new message from Megan. It was a video of I and Irene kissing and she also shared an article tarnishing Irene’s Image, she sent another text saying all that she was about to do and how I couldn’t do anything about it. I didn’t spend one more second in the library and ran out. On getting outside the hefty Men stopped me, turns out they were hired just for me. To stop me from going to save Irene, apparently the whole thing was planned and the man who was supposed to be my Dad was an ally. I texted Ike immediately to go pick Irene from work. I wasn’t going to just back down so I fought a few of the men he hired. Even though I couldn’t beat them all I wanted them to sustain a few injuries. I needed to lay my anger out on them. After a few minutes of chaos and several bruises on my face I stormed into the library.

“What is wrong with you Dad, what?” I shouted.

“You need help Will. I am trying to save you from a lifetime mistake and this is how you react. Shame on you son” he replied.

“Shame on me?” I scoffed as I paced about “Shame on me? Have you looked at how you’ve managed to raise a son? That line should never have to come from you because you obviously don’t know what shame is. Did you ever care about how I was feeling? No you didn’t, all you ever cared about was what you felt was right even if it was at the expense of my mental health” I shouted breathing heavily.

“There’s nothing you would say to change my decision. It still stands. You must marry Megan,” he said calmly as he flipped the book he was reading to the next page. This sent a lot of angry emotions through my veins.

“Can you listen to yourself, Dad? Can you ever just kill that pride and take even a second to listen to me. Maybe just then you’ll see through my words and see all the pain I have been carrying for years. You were hardly ever around, you only paid the maids to get me all I wanted and sent me to the best schools, but you never cared to listen to me whenever I had something to talk about. Did you know I was bullied in school and one time they asked me to slit my wrist because it made them happy? I was in the hospital for days but you were on some business trip. How did you think I got this scar? The time I tried talking to you about it you shut me off and told me you didn’t have time. So many other terrible things happened but I handled it alone. I learnt how to walk through all of the pain alone. Why did you think I always had those parties? I needed it to fill a void. You know I wish Mum carried me along with her when she was leaving you for another Man” I said through tears. I really didn’t want to be like this but I have been holding in all these pain for too long and today I just had to let everything out.

“I…I just Don’t want you to end up like me, I loved your mother with every piece of me but she left me for my friend who was rich and that broke me in ways I didn’t ever expect. So I made up my mind I was going to work so hard, and give myself a name which the world would know little did I know that I was losing my son in the process” he paused as a tear dropped “That’s why I don’t want you to end up like me, I don’t want you to lose yourself over a woman who is only after your wealth and not your heart. And we’ve known Megan for a long time, She’s beautiful and kind hearted and comes from a wealthy home. She will do you good. You just have to let that other gold-digging lady go."

For a second I was convinced that he had changed his mind about me marrying Megan, but turns out I was wrong. I don’t think there’s anything I can ever say to make him change his mind.

“So you still want me to Marry Megan?” I asked.

“Yes. You must,” he answered.

“And if I don’t?” I replied.

“You lose your chance at becoming the CEO of the company, you lose access to all your cards, you lose your chance at amending our relationship as father and son. And you leave my house immediately without any of my cars,” he said.

“So be it then” I said as I walked closer to his table and placed all my credit cards on it. He always threatened me with all these material stuff. Now he could have them all. I will not sacrifice my happiness because I want some temporary power or money.

For so long, I sought happiness and peace, and now that I'd found it with Irene, there was no way I would let it go. There was no way I’d let her go.
