Chapter Eleven — Dream Come True

Irene’s POV:

“I love it so much. It’s like everything I always dreamed of. Thank you again Will” I said.

“I got you anytime. I’m just a couple of floors away if you need me. Plus, Are you hungry?” he asked.

He’s so nice. And he’s asking if I am hungry does he want to buy me lunch, there’s no way I’d let that happen.

“Yes. I am quite hungry” I replied.

But he didn’t hear me. His attention was zapped away by a knock on the door. I saw a young man by the door but he stepped out to talk to him.

“Erm, See you later Irene, and I am glad you like your office” He said swiftly and walked out. I wonder what made him go out so fast. Maybe he had an important meeting. I let out a sigh as I turned in my office chair.

The day went by really fast. I’m glad Mark didn’t dare come near me or my office. After Will left my office I didn’t see him till we closed at work. Getting an uber ride in the evening time was quite hard. I need to save up my salary and get myself a car. I’m just so glad I have a job already and not just any job but my dream job.

I just had dinner. I have been looking through the blinds at Will’s house to see if he’s around but he still isn’t. I wonder where he is and I hope he is safe. I would have put a call through but I don’t have his phone number and I keep forgetting to ask for it.

I checked my phone to see missed calls from Felicia. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to talk at so I haven’t told her about how my life turned around for good in just a few days. I dialed her number back immediately.

“Hi there,” I said.

“Hmm, I see someone’s been able to get over that jerk” she replied.

“Oh, well… I don’t know. I guess I have just been really occupied these days” I said. But just then it hit me. I haven’t sulked or cried over Mark since yesterday I think I am actually starting to get over him completely. It’s only a matter of time.

“I hope it stays that way. I really don’t want you worrying over that scum bag. You deserve all the happiness in the world” she said.

“Talking about happiness. I got a job with ADseen” I said.

“Wait, like ADseen, ADseen?"

I giggled “Yes, ADseen. The company I always talked about” I replied.

“Of course I know ADseen. I mean who doesn’t. That’s the best news I have heard all month. Congratulations girl. I am so, so happy for you. You deserve it and so much more” she said.

“But wait isn’t that where your ex is working and I thought he said they only accepted those with a PhD” she added.

“Turns out he lied to prevent me from getting in. I don’t know why he is filled with so much hate. Anyways about how I got in, My neighbor, the one I texted you about that always hosts parties, he helped out with it. Turns out his dad owns ADseen,” I said.

“Omg, girl. This is great news. And how did that jerk react when he saw you at work?” she asked.

“Hmm, he went crazy. He…"

I explained how Mark sent me a message after I applied for the job and every other thing that happened and we talked for hours. She kept saying how happy she was for me and also advised me on how I should avoid Mark in every way I can. I wanted to tell her that Will offered to have him fired but I said No. but I didn’t tell her because she was going to be mad at me. The rest of the night was cozy and cold and I enjoyed my sleep. My teddy served as a cuddle bunny.

I arrived work feeling very anxious. You know that first day at work kind of feeling, only that yesterday was my first day at work and I didn’t feel anxious like this. I hope I have a good day today.

“Can I come in?” I heard a voice speak. I looked at the entrance to see my colleague Niel.

“Oh, Hi Niel.” I said.

“Hey, uhm. Katherine asked to see you now,” he said.

“Is there any problem and why didn’t she just call me?” I asked. There was a landline in the office meant for purposes like that.

“Yeah, I was at her office and she asked that I call you since my office is just beside yours” he answered.

“Oh, Okay. Thanks” I replied.

Katherine is the head of ads department so she is my boss. I haven’t spoken to her at length but so far she seemed really nice and asked if I liked my office.

“Hi, Good morning” I said as I stood by the door.

“Irene Good morning, come on in” she said.

“Thanks” I replied as I walked in and reached for one of the two sits in front of the huge desk facing her seat.

“How was your first day at work? Were you able to sort the documents you were given?” she asked.

“Yes, I’m almost done with that. And work has been great so far” I answered.

“Great. So you are to come up with a five-minute presentation about an advertisement concerning this,” she handed me a tablet that displayed the logo of a soft drinks company and also contained a few details about them.

I nodded as I stared at the tablet, I had a dozen of ideas floating through my mind already.

“So do you think it’s something you can pull off?” she asked.

“Yes, definitely” I replied as I handed the tab back to her.

“Great. So I will forward the link of their website to your email, go through it and get all the details you need about them” she said.

“Uhm, When do I submit this?” I asked.

“Tomorrow” she replied. I could feel my heart beat. Tomorrow was too early for a first timer but there’s no way I could tell her that.

“Alright, I got this” I smiled as I walked out. I was walking to the elevator when I bumped into Mark. I was hoping the jerk wouldn’t approach me but he just couldn’t do without frustrating me when he had the chance.

“Hey. We need to talk” he said.

“There is nothing left to talk about, Mark. Now excuse me.” Would he at least get out of my way and stop standing in front of me?

“Of course there is,” he chuckled. “What’s going on between you and the boss?"

I scoffed “You are crazy. Get out of my way” I exclaimed and walked passed him. What right did he have to ask me that? After all he has done to me he had the guts to stupidly ask me such question, he must be crazy.

“Wait!” I could hear his voice from behind. I reached for the elevator immediately but he ran after me and made his way in.

“What do you want from me Mark haven’t you done enough damage already?” I scoffed.

“And that’s why you’re trying to get revenge on me by using the boss?” he said.

“I am not using the boss to get a revenge on you. I simply got a job because of how good he thought I was. Why are you so desperate to see me unhappy? Look I don’t even care about your reason for doing all that evil anymore, all I want is for you to stay the hell away from me” I shouted. Before he could get out of the shock of what I said and utter a word the elevator was at my floor already so I stepped out, and thankfully he didn’t follow me.

I let out a sigh as I reached my office and sat down. I was about scribbling my ideas in the sticky note when I noticed a note on my table. It read:

Let’s have lunch together. Meet me at the King’s Place.

–Will I smiled. I heard that the King’s Place was only meant for executives and the CEO, why was Will still asking me to come eat with him there. I will meet him there and tell him I can’t.

I stared at the setting of the restaurant. It was beautiful, no wonder they called it the King’s Place and made it only for executives and the CEO. I was still looking and admiring the place when a voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

“What are you doing here? Are you an executive?” the voice said. I turned around to see an elderly woman.

“Uhm,” I stuttered. Do I tell her the CEO asked to eat with me, that I was just a simple employee who should be eating at the normal cafeteria? Before I could sort out the words and speak, I heard Will’s voice.

“She’s with me” he uttered. I let out a big sigh. That was close. I watched as the woman stared at me like I was some strange creature and made her way to a table in the room.

“That was close” I said to Will.

“Come on, she couldn’t have done anything. Like you she’s also an employee, I call the shots around here” he smirked.

“Right, you’re the boss” I smiled. “Why did you ask to eat here? I could just eat in the general restaurant for staff"

“Because you’re the only friend I have here. Most of these people don’t like me, they think I am the rich spoilt brat so they all just fake their relationship with me” he replied.

He just called me his friend again and this made my heart flinch. I was more than happy to be friends with someone with such a pure heart and after all he has done for me I will be here whenever he needs me.

“So uhm, please don’t say no but I would like this to be my treat,” I said.

He laughed “I would love to say yes, but then that’s not how things work around here."

“Oh, how does it work then?” I asked.

“The bill is on the salary, it’s not like it actually gets deducted though. But if you’re so keen about this you could buy me lunch some other time,” he smiled.

“Okay, sounds great."

The meal was great and the food was really tasty. No wonder they reserved it only for top officials. We finished eating few minutes ago but Will asked that we wait for a while so we talked about top restaurants in the city that we’ve been to and also possible places I could take him to for lunch.

“So I guess I should head back to my office” I said. Lunch time was over and as a first timer I don’t know how serious they are about their rules.

“Yeah, we should leave” he replied.

We were heading out of the office when a young lady stopped us and started talking to Will.

“So, I’m guessing this is the Irene you kept asking me about,” she said.

“Yes. Irene, meet Rachel. The head of HR department and a friend,” Will gestured his hands towards her.

“Hi, Nice to meet you” I stretched out my hands for a handshake but she hesitated at first before she faked a smile and grabbed my hand.

“Uhm, I should head back to my office, I have things to do” I said and walked out of their midst leaving them alone to talk.

2 minutes left for office hours to end. I have been busy coming up with ideas and I have drafted over 8. I just need to choose one and make a visual sample of the ad for tomorrow’s presentation. I looked at my phone one more time to see if I had gotten any ride but there was nothing. I decided to stay back in my office and wait till I got one, didn’t know when I dosed off. It was Will’s voice that woke me up.

“Will” I muttered. “Omg, I’m so sorry I slept off while trying to get a ride home"

“You shouldn’t apologize to me. I mean, it’s fine, you must have had a long day. Get up, let's go home,” he said. I paused trying to get my head around what he said.

“I mean, I would give you a ride home,” he added.

“Oh, thank you so much” I replied as I grabbed my bag and my phone from the table.

“Where’s your ride?” I asked. His car wasn’t anywhere around only this black limo parked in front of us.

“This is it,” he replied.

“Wow,” I scoffed. You know, I almost forgot I was talking to the owner of ADseen’s son. A billionaire’s son.
