Chapter 72
Since Laura was the main suspect and had some key info to crack the case, they didn't take her to a regular hospital. Instead, she was rushed to a police-affiliated hospital.
In a private room, a team of pro doctors showed up in no time.
They were in clean uniforms, looking focused and calm, and they got to work on Laura methodically.
The doctors had their roles down pat, and the room buzzed with a tense but orderly vibe.
While waiting for the test results, Sophia, full of questions, couldn't hold back anymore. She turned to Henry, her brow furrowed, and asked, "Why do you think this happened to her?"
Sophia's eyes were urgent and puzzled. She was desperate for some answers from Henry.
"It's a stress response," Henry, sitting in his wheelchair, said seriously. He squinted, deep in thought, his eyes sharp like he could see through everything. "It usually only kicks in under special circumstances. Clearly, the video you showed her triggered it." Henry's steady voice echoed in the quiet hallway outside the room.
Sophia felt a bit frustrated hearing this.
The case had been through a lot of investigations, and many clues were finally making sense. It was almost solved, but now, at this crucial moment, Laura suddenly fell into a coma.
This unexpected twist really troubled Sophia. She wondered, 'Is this some kind of joke from God?'
Just as Sophia was feeling down, Henry spoke softly beside her, "I watched the video of your conversation with her. I have some theories."
Henry's words instantly lifted Sophia's spirits. A glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes, and she quickly asked, "What kind of theories?"
Sophia's eyes were filled with confusion and anticipation. She stared intently at Henry, trying to find answers on his face.
Henry adjusted his posture slightly and began to speak slowly, "She might have dissociative identity disorder. When someone goes through major psychological trauma, their self-protection mechanism can cause their personality to split into two or more distinct identities. These identities often don't know about each other."
Henry's tone was very professional, and his analysis made Sophia think deeply.
"So, you're saying Laura's condition is likely due to dissociative identity disorder? One body, two souls," Sophia summarized, trying to grasp his meaning.
Henry nodded and replied, "You could put it that way."
As he spoke, Henry instinctively pulled out a cigarette, trying to ease his tense thoughts. Just as he was about to light it, Sophia quickly stopped him.
Sophia pointed to a no-smoking sign nearby, her brow furrowing even more, and said sternly, "This is a hospital. Can't you be more mindful?"
Henry realized his mistake, smiled wryly, and put the cigarette away.
At that moment, Sophia seemed to think of something and urgently said, "Is there a way to prove it?"
Henry's face showed a mysterious smile. He leaned in slightly, closer to Sophia's ear, and lowered his voice. "We could create a special environment to lure out her second personality. Have you considered hypnosis?"
Henry's eyes revealed a hint of anticipation as he waited for Sophia's response.
"This goes against the rules, but I'll try to get approval from the higher-ups," Sophia said seriously.
She knew very well that doing this could cause other complications. Hypnosis involved many complex procedures and regulations, and one wrong move could make the investigation even more complicated.
However, for the current progress of the case, this was undoubtedly a rare breakthrough.
If they could use hypnosis to bring out Laura's second personality, they might uncover the hidden truth behind the case and solve all the mysteries.
