Chapter 511 The Finale (Part One)

"Give Hassan back to me, please?"

Liam raised his face.

"Don't cry. Stay with me for a while. Have you really never loved me?"

Mollie's heart plummeted, shivering from the cold.

She dared not look at the lake, as beneath it lay the person she loved most.

"Liam, you are my brother, the person I have always trusted most since childhood. I admired and trusted you so much. But I don't love you, never have."

He chuckled.

"That's a pity."

Suddenly, there was a commotion behind her.

Mollie turned her head, almost unable to believe her eyes.

Hassan emerged drenched from head to toe from the dense forest, looking disheveled and gasping for air.

"I never expected that passage would lead here." He appeared relieved, "Are you okay?"

She stared at him for a few seconds, rushing into his embrace.

"I thought you were gone for real! Why did you do that?!"

Mollie, tearful and angry, kept pounding Hassan's chest.

"That hurts..."

She could not help but lighten her grip.

"Do you know the pain of losing you was unbearable?"

Hassan smiled and embraced her.

"It was only after you went up that I discovered the mechanism had changed for the second time. It unexpectedly opened a passage from the side, and I was carried out along the water flow."

Mollie widened her eyes, looking towards Liam sitting by the lake.

Hassan: "So, all of this was his arrangement."

As long as Hassan chose to save her first, they both would be saved.

If Hassan abandoned her and chose to save himself, then the one trapped at the bottom of the lake would be him alone.

This was the answer Liam wanted.

Hassan: "He is not a bad person, just too obsessed. After I was washed out, I saw a large field of Batiber that had already been destroyed."

Mollie was astonished, "Is that so?"

"Mm."

Mollie lowered her eyelids.

"But he shouldn't have used your life as a gamble. What if..."

If something went wrong, she couldn't bear to think about it.

"There is no 'what if.' Liam must have already calculated all. Besides, do not underestimate me."

Looking at Hassan's childish smile, Mollie's anger and sadness evaporated completely.

She no longer looked at Liam with the same resentment as before.

Hassan said, "Go, have a good talk with him."

Mollie nodded.

She walked to Liam's side and stood shoulder to shoulder with him.

She didn't look at him.

"In light of Hassan's return and your initiative to destroy the Batiber field, I... will not hold it against you."

"But such things should never happen again in the future. From now on, you must make good use of your intelligence. You are outstanding, you should be able to create more value."

Once she started speaking, Mollie couldn't stop.

"Just like when we were children, you must set a good example for me!"

She said a lot, but the man beside her showed no reaction.

On the lake, the gentle breeze brushed her face.

A few bird calls sounded mournful at that moment.

Mollie sensed something was wrong and turned to look at the man in the wheelchair.

"Liam?"

Liam remained in the same position, sitting there motionless.

He closed his eyes, a smile still lingering on his lips.

The wind gently caressed his hair, freezing the scene in time.

Her heart trembled uncontrollably.

She gently nudged Liam a couple of times, her voice trembling.

"Hey, say something."

Liam's head slowly tilted to the side, still showing no reaction.

Mollie tentatively checked his breath, sensing no sign of life.

"Liam!! Don't scare me!!"

Seeing something was amiss, Hassan hurried over.

Mollie had already checked him, and the results were despairing.

She covered her face, shaking her head incessantly.

"This can't be..."

Hassan looked at the man who no longer showed any signs of life, feeling a deep regret.

"This can't be!!"

Liam was dead.

He died on a tranquil lakeside.

The wind continued to blow gently.

Mollie couldn't remember how she left that place, as Hassan took care of everything.

Her eyes were fixed on Liam's lifeless face.

Liam... was dead?

In the following days, she felt like she was in a dream.

She continued to work.

But in her spare moments, she would stare blankly out of the window, feeling a void in her heart.

She couldn't remember the last words Liam said before he passed away.

As the weather grew warmer, Hassan came to find her.

"I think tomorrow would be appropriate, what do you think?"

"What?"

"Liam's funeral."

Hassan gently caressed her cheek with the back of his hand.

"He left something for you."

Mollie's eyes suddenly became clouded.

Yes, Liam was dead.

The man she once relied on and guarded against, was gone.

Hassan held her in his arms, "Have a good cry."

She had endured enough during this time.

In Hassan's embrace, shedding tears, she finally accepted the reality.

Wiping away the tears on her face, Mollie tried to compose herself.

"Alright, tomorrow we will bid him farewell."
