Chapter 122 The Reporters Want The Truth

Chapter 122 The Reporters Want The Truth
Knox

I am standing on the balcony with my mouth close to Emma's. I can feel her breath on my lips. Her lips are swollen from the way I kissed her. They still taste like champagne and strawberry. Her body is shaking against mine. And it makes me feel all fired up for sex.

Then I hear Gina's voice behind the closed doors.

My nerves become tense. Damn. I don't want her to find us like this. I came here to have a moment with my baby but Gina keeps acting like she's my shadow.

The footsteps stop behind the door. For a moment I think about all the things that could happen. If Gina sees us everything will be over. There will be no going back and all hell will break loose.

Suddenly, a phone rings, for a split second I thought it's mine until I hear Gina's voice.

Gina says something under her breath. Then she walks away to answer the phone.

Her heels click on the floor as she goes inside. I feel a wave of relief wash over me. I am glad Gina did not see us. I stand between Emma and the door to protect her, waiting until I am sure Gina is gone.

I put my forehead against Emma's. And breathe in deeply. I can smell her skin. Which calms me down. "Calm down baby," I say softly. "Gina is gone. Your mother left a while ago. We are okay for now."

Emma's eyes are big and scared. As she breathes fast. I hold her face in my hands, rubbing her cheeks with my thumbs. "We are okay," I say again.

I feel a twitch in my pants, the urge to pull down her panties and fuck her senseless clouds my mind.

But I hold myself back, I want to have her here and now but I'll wait.

I can't afford to make mistakes and get caught.

I kiss her softly and slowly. I want her to know that I am still here for her. When I pull back I keep my voice low. "There is an after party at Mr. Carter's house but we won't spend much time there. Meet me there. Wear the dress I got you. I want to see how beautiful you look in it and maybe, take it off you tonight."

She looks down, smiling shyly.

“You don't have to be shy, baby. We've seen each other naked countless times.”

Her face turns beetroot red and then I chuckle which earns me a light slap on my chest.

I can see the fire in her eyes though. It is the fire that I see when I tell her what I want to do to her.

After being certain that there's no one by the door, we walk inside together but we did not touch ourselves, acting like two strangers.

We walk side by side like two people who just happened to step out for some air. Looking so professional and innocent.

As we walk, I feel like someone is watching me. Am I just being paranoid?

Or maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me. I try to dismiss the odd feeling of being watched but I can't.

It feels like something colder and malicious. I look around quickly. But I do not see anyone obvious.

When we get to the elevator, I give Emma a wave. "See you inside," I say. The doors close after a smile and a wave from her.

Then I turn around to leave, I freeze.

Gina is standing right there. Her arms are crossed over her chest. Her eyes are narrowed. "What were you doing with Emma?" she asks. Her voice is tight and controlled. I can hear the hurt underneath it.

I try to stay calm. I do not want her to know what is going on. "She got lost on the way to the restroom," I say. "I helped her find the elevator." I try to sound reasonable and even.

Gina steps closer. "I am not a fool, Knox," she says. "Is there something going on between you and Emma?"

I struggle to stay calm.

"Like what Gina?"

She snaps at me. "No, you tell me what's going on. I need answers. You are always hovering around her. Always watching her."

I raise an eyebrow. "Wow, we are back to the fights?" I say. "Let me remind you. Emma is my assistant and she reports to me every day."

Gina flinches. Her eyes glisten with tears. "I saw her leaving the hotel room with you," she says. "What is going on Knox?"

So now she's monitoring my moves. Was she the one watching me a few moments ago? Obviously she is.

I laugh. It is better than telling her the truth. "Maybe you should ask Monica," I reply, trying to sound angry. "She spilled coffee on Emma earlier. I got her a change of dress."

I did not wait for Gina to answer, immediately, I walk away, going back to the hall.

I know Gina deserves more but I can no  longer give her what she wants. It's Emma I'm interested in.

I try to act normal, shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries with some of the board members.

Then two reporters hurriedly walk up to me. One has a microphone. The other has a camera.

"Hello, Mr. Knox," the woman says. "We have personal questions to ask you."

I do not want to answer their questions. Not with my nerves still jumpy. And Emma's taste is still on my lips. But I have to be polite. "Yes, sure," I nod. "Go ahead."

The reporter smiles. "What is your relationship with Emma Collins?" she asks.

The question knocks my breath away. I quickly look around the hall. That is when I see Monica. She is standing near the bar with a glass of wine in her hand, smiling at me, a cold and satisfied smile.

I feel a wave of rage wash over me. My hands curl into fists at my sides.
