Chapter 62 Chapter 63
Chapter 62 Chapter 63
During the night, Marlie chose to remain in her room, refusing to open the door for anyone until morning.
Early the next day, Chad persistently stood outside the door, attempting to convince Marlie to let him in, but she paid no attention to him. It seemed as though she had no desire to listen to anything Chad had to say.
If that were the case, why didn't she just go straight to her room after her parents left, instead of grabbing a pointless blanket?
The blankets were just lying on her sofa, unused. Did she actually want to hear Chad's explanation? Then, why was she not allowing him the chance to explain himself? What does she actually want?
Once the place grew quiet, Marlie got out of her bed and finally opened the door, hoping to see Chad but instead found Vien waiting outside.
Marlie had not eaten anything the previous night, causing Vien to worry about her pregnancy. If only she knew her worry was of no use.
However, this was not the appropriate setting to discuss that matter. So, Marlie immediately led Vien to their bedroom, and as soon as Vien closed the door, Marlie began speaking.
"I am not pregnant!"
Vien was taken aback by her statement. If she were not pregnant, why did she feel the need to lie to the media? "Spark asked me to lie," Marlie confessed.
"So he is now helping you?" Vien questioned. She was kind of confused and surprised at the same time. What was that boy trying to do now?
"Let's just say that for now," Marlie responded. However, she was starving and in need of something to eat. She simply did not want to face Chad's presence in the early morning, as it would only fuel her anger. Hence, she chose to refrain from coming out earlier.
Luck seemed to be on her side when she arrived at the office. Chad was nowhere to be found, which brought Marlie a sense of relief.
However, her anger flared up when she was informed that Chad had gone to a meeting with Angelina. Before Marlie could create a scene in front of the employees, Mark intervened with a call that brought great news. She took her seat comfortably.
"I recorded a conversation between Audrey and Angelina yesterday in Audrey's office, and I think you need to hear it," Mark informed Marlie.
Marlie furrowed her brows, curious as to what the conversation could entail. Soon enough, she heard their conversation:
Audrey yelled at Angelina, urging her to get her act together whenever she encountered Chad.
"How do you expect me to when your brother doesn't even acknowledge my presence?" Angelina said pitifully and also with a hint of rage.
"We will come up with a plan to bring you two closer," Audrey concluded.
"What failed plan are you referring to? Like the first one?" Angelina retorted with a sneer.
"Angelina, you know it was not my fault that it ended up like that!"
"And was it my fault when your brother pushed me away?" Angelina interjected, not wanting to back down.
"Let's put an end to this already. We're in the company." Audrey tried to persuade her pitiful friend.
"No, let's discuss it here. I don't care anymore. I don't care if someone finds out that nothing happened between Chad and me on his wedding night!"Angelina yelled and pulled her hair back in frustration. She seemed to be fed up with all the lies they came with, which had resulted in nothing.
Upon hearing the truth, Marlie stood up, overwhelmed by the revelation. "Nothing happened between them? He didn't... He didn't cheat on Charlie, " Marlie whispered to herself as the audio played on.
"Shut up, Angelina! Please, just be quiet!" Marlie heard Audrey's hushed voice from the recording.
"I refuse to stay silent any longer. I'm tired of it. I won't sit idly by." Angelina spat out crazily. Her obsession with Chad was getting out of hand.
"What are you planning to do, Angelina?" Audrey asked in frustration. She was getting impatient with the grown-up brat friend of hers already.
"I'm going home right now, but you'll find out soon enough. Just know that I won't let that awful woman take Chad away from me, never!" Angelina said with determination.
"Angelina, come back here, Angelina...!" Audrey called out, but she was far gone.
As the audio ended, a sense of joy filled Marlie as she realised Chad was never that close with Angelina, and then Marlie's anger grew.
"That woman is going to regret it!"
Marlie uttered those words, and as if by divine intervention, Chad and his entourage entered the company.
Dear Angelina, I was amongst them. She stood by Chad's left side while David stood on his right. And Spark and Gideon followed closely behind.
"You witch!"
Marlie cursed, throwing her phone away and rushing towards them. She wished to kill Angelina right there. Amidst all this, Marlie is failing to realize that she is becoming possessive of Chad each day.
Chad was delighted when he saw Marlie coming their way. But when he saw the anger on her face, Chad wished it were not for him.
Initially, he thought Marlie was furious with him, but upon closer observation, he realized she was heading straight for Angelina, which puzzled him.
However, before he could intervene, Marlie rang a slap in Angelina's ears, causing her to fall to the ground.
"SLAP!!!"
Chad had no choice but to restrain Marlie by holding her waist, preventing her from attacking Angelina further.
Marlie wiggled in his arms like a stray cat, wanting to pounce on her enemy and scratch her face till it bleeds.
David and the others helped Angelina to her feet. But David, showing his true colors, smirked with satisfaction at Angelina's state. The other employees were equally shocked by the scene unfolding before their eyes, yet happy Angelina got her share of Marlie's anger.
Charlie (Marlie)'s act left Gideon in complete astonishment. He had never witnessed her displaying such strength before.
Spark hurried to the scene to assist Chad in restraining the fervent Marlie, who refused to calm down. As Spark held Marlie, he whispered some words of reason to her.
"Not now, Marlie. Control yourself. This is not the right time." he advised.
Heaving a sigh, Marlie composed herself upon hearing Spark's advice.
Chad, looking bewildered by Marlie's state, wondered what had caused her to become so furious and attack Angelina so early in the morning.
"Could she be carrying out her threat of pulling her hair?"
Chad thought to himself in shock. He knew he had to resolve the situation before Marlie did something rash. He wasn't going to defend Angelina, but he had to make Marlie understand that he wasn't with Angelina the day before.
From his perspective, everything was a misunderstanding caused by the asshole, Spark.
"Let's discuss this in my office."
Chad suggested, leading the way. Marlie followed, accompanied by Spark and Gideon, and David with Angelina.
The onlooker's employees discussed the situation among themselves with different opinions. However, they all have one thing in common... They gleefully saw Angelina in that miserable state.
In Chad's office, frustration overtook him as he took his seat. Marlie chose to stand with her arms folded on her chest as she seethed with anger.
Spark and Gideon settled on the couch to Chad's right, and Angelina sat across from Chad's desk, directly opposite him with a pitiful yet livid face.
Angelina wanted to cut Marlie into pieces right there and then feed her corpse to the fish. The nerve of that bitch to slap her.
Her cheek was still burning from the slap and without even checking, she could still feel a handprint on her cheek.
"Charlie, please sit down so we can talk," Chad spoke, motioning for angry Marlie to have a seat.
Marlie stubbornly refused to take a seat, but Chad insisted. "Please..."
"Alright, I'll sit," Marlie finally conceded, making her way to her chair. However, she had no intention of sitting on a regular chair. She had a different idea in mind.
Briskly walking past the desk, Marlie grabbed Chad's chair, and pulled it back, providing herself with a unique seating arrangement on his lap.
"Now that I've taken my seat, can we begin?" Marlie remarked.
To say everyone was shocked would have been an understatement.
Gideon had poured himself a glass of water and was about to gulp down the contents when he saw the scene of Marlie sitting on Chad's lap.
He immediately choked on his drink and started coughing vigorously.
To add more to the shock, no one even assisted him by patting his back to soothe him.
David, who was standing by the door, without realizing, gave in to his jelly legs and plummeted to the floor in utter shock.
Spark, who is known for his corkiness, was even overthrown by Marlie's action. His mouth hung open in shock as he stared at the scene without blinking. He wanted a show, right? There he got it live and coloured!
Angelina, on the other hand, was all over the place. Her face kept changing from pale to red, and then to purple out of anger and jealousy.
Now Chad, the victim himself, didn't know what to do or say. On one hand, he was enjoying the fact that Marlie took the initiative to sit on his lap.
However, it was a clear fact that he couldn't control himself whenever he was near Marlie. Not to mention this kind of position, sitting directly on his crotch was tormenting.
Marlie, however, pretended not to mind everyone's reaction and sat on Chad's lap with her arms folded on her chest, waiting for the so-called meeting to continue
Uncomfortable with Marlie's chosen spot, Chad had to intervene before she embarrassed him in front of his friends.
"Ch- Charlie, please stand up. This is quite uncomfortable," Chad requested softly, almost pleadingly.
But does she care? No, she had a point to prove to Angelina. She would not allow any chance or space for her to get closer to Chad. She didn't even realize that she was stating her claim on Chad.
"Sshhh, sit there quietly."
Marlie might have uttered these words softly to Chad, but all of them in the room heard it and, except Spark, who was now feeling sorry for Chad, coughed with embarrassment.
"The longer you delay, the longer I'll stay here and sit on this perfect chair, which is your lap. I'm not budging an inch, okay!" Marlie turned to face Chad, firmly reiterating her stance.
Did she not realize that her stubbornness was futile? Or that it was Chad who was suffering in that position?
