Found Dead
Found Dead
I wouldn’t lie, I felt hurt. How was I supposed to seduce Diego when I didn’t even have a chance? His office was far from mine, he never called me over, and he wasn’t even friendly or warm. Just cold, distant, and untouchable. How was I supposed to approach him? How was I supposed to make him notice me? Ellie knew exactly the kind of husband he was, and yet she seemed to think that seducing him would be simple, like it was a game anyone could win.
“Look, Ellie, you didn’t even give me the chance to explain anything,” I said quickly, frustration bleeding through my words. “Diego’s office is far from mine. He didn’t call me there once. I can’t just walk in uninvited—it would look weird. I am trying, okay? He is so cold. He doesn’t even give anyone the chance to speak with him.”
Her face, which had been boiling with rage a moment ago, cooled slightly, like the heat had drained from it.
“Well, that is exactly why I brought you here,” she said sharply, her voice firm. “That is why I volunteered to take care of your mother, to give you comfort. I even told him to work closely with you. Diego is not an easy person to win over, so you need to understand—you’re not getting all of this for free. You need to try your very best.”
“I will,” I said softly, nodding. “I’ll try my best.”
She started to turn, but a thought hit me like a hammer. I couldn’t let it go. I had tried so hard to push the incident from my mind, but I couldn’t. Not while it burned inside me like a fire.
“Ellie!” I called.
She stopped mid-step and turned toward me. “Yes?”
I swallowed hard, trying to find the right words. “There’s something I need to ask you.”
She frowned slightly and walked back toward me, her arms crossed over her chest. “What is it, Lyla?”
“Today, when I was in the cafeteria…” I paused, trying to steady my voice. “…a lady came up to me and claimed she was Diego’s girlfriend.”
Ellie’s expression changed immediately. The warmth drained from her face, replaced by an icy glare so sharp it made my heart tremble.
“I… don’t understand,” she said slowly, her tone cold but controlled. “A lady just came up to you and said that? Explain. I don’t get it.”
I swallowed again and recounted everything. Every word the woman had said, every smug expression on her face, every motion she made as she tried to intimidate me. I even told Ellie how her face shifted the moment I revealed that I was Diego’s sister’s wife.
Ellie’s eyes darkened as I spoke, and by the time I finished, she was smiling—but not the friendly kind. Her smile was deadly. The kind that could freeze a person’s blood in their veins.
“Thank you for telling me, dear,” she said quietly, almost softly. “Do not worry. She will not disturb you again.”
I blinked. My eyebrows arched in confusion. “What… what do you mean? She won’t disturb me again?”
Ellie just gave me that same unreadable smile and left. I didn’t understand what it meant, but I was far too tired to think about it. I stumbled to my bedroom, took a long bath, and fell into bed wearing my softest nightwear. My body ached from the day, and the stress had left me physically sore.
With the last ounce of energy I had, I grabbed my phone and recorded a voice note to my mother. “Hey Mom… just got back from work. I hope you’re doing well. I’ll check up on you later.” My voice was thick with sleep, and the phone slipped from my hand as I drifted into unconsciousness.
I woke up suddenly to the sound of my alarm. It was 6:00 a.m. Panic shot through me as I jumped out of bed. I quickly dressed in long pants and a neatly ironed white T-shirt, tied my hair into a ponytail, applied minimal makeup, grabbed my bag and the files I needed for the office, and hurried out of my room.
When I reached the living room, I expected to see Diego or Zion waiting. But the space was empty. Just as I began to worry, a middle-aged man walked toward me.
“Ma’am, sir wants me to take you to the company,” he said politely.
“Where is Sir Diego?” I asked, my voice tightening. I looked around nervously.
“Sir left early this morning for an important meeting. He could not wait for you,” the man replied.
My chest tightened. Diego had left without me? Did he despise me that much? I felt a small relief that at least the day wouldn’t be awkward with him in the car, but I wasn’t happy at all.
“If you don’t mind, ma’am,” the man continued, “sir will be waiting for you at the office. We should leave now to avoid any complications.”
I nodded and followed him. My heels clicked against the marble floor as we exited. We reached another Rolls Royce waiting outside, and I climbed in. The car zoomed off, and I watched the city blur past the window, my thoughts spinning.
When we arrived at the company, everything felt strange. The atmosphere was tense, heavy. Whispers floated through the halls. My first instinct was to think people were whispering about me, but the looks on their faces were not judgmental. They were terrified.
I walked up to the third floor. Everyone seemed stiff, frozen, traumatized even. Something was definitely wrong. My heart beat faster.
Then, a soft hand touched my arm. I flinched, startled, and turned. It was Felicia.
“Babe,” she whispered, taking my hand. “Come with me.”
She led me into her office and shut the door. My pulse was racing. “What’s happening? Why is everyone acting like this?”
She took a deep breath. “Babe… something tragic happened.”
My stomach dropped. “What happened?”
“Yola,” she said softly, her voice trembling slightly. “She was found dead in her apartment this morning.”
My blood ran cold. My whole body froze. My breath hitched.
Dead.
Yola.
The woman who confronted me in the cafeteria yesterday.
I could feel panic clawing at my chest. My mind raced. The world seemed to tilt around me.
Ellie did it.
just like that, . My heart thudded painfully in my chest as I realized how dangerous this situation had become. Fear, confusion, and a creeping sense of dread wrapped around me like a vice.
I sat down heavily in the chair, my hands shaking, my eyes wide, Ellie is a deadly human being, her smile! And the last words she said
made me realize it was she..
“Don't worry she won't disturb you again”
Was I in danger?
