Dizzy

Dizzy

After going through the documents, I felt dizzy, and my eyelids grew terribly heavy. I could no longer fight nature, and before I realized what was happening, I drifted into a deep sleep.

The loud alarm from my phone jolted me awake, snapping my eyes open like someone had splashed cold water on my face. I jumped up immediately, my breath caught in my throat when the sudden realization hit me. Today was Monday. Today was the very first day I officially resumed work. Panic rushed through me.

Hastily, I grabbed my phone to check the time, praying silently that I still had more time. But the moment the screen lit up, my heart dropped. It was already seven in the morning. Seven! God, why did I sleep off like that? Why did I not set my alarm properly?

My mind raced as I bolted into the bathroom. I turned on the shower, letting the cold water hit me sharply while I scrubbed my body as quickly as my panicked hands could manage. My thoughts spiraled around Diego. If I was late on my first day, I was absolutely finished. I knew the kind of man he was, and I knew he valued punctuality. If I messed up today, he was going to be furious.

I just hoped I was not late yet. Everything inside me prayed for a miracle.

I rushed out of the bathroom, barely drying myself, and dashed to the closet. I grabbed a pair of white pants and a long sleeve top, then wore a short hand sweater over it. I slid my feet into low fashion shoes, still breathing fast from the rush. My hands trembled slightly as I combed my hair, straightening it quickly before applying hair cream to keep it in place.

I picked up the documents I had worked on last night, then grabbed my phone, sprayed a bit of perfume on myself, and rushed out of the room.

As soon as I entered the sitting room, I froze. Diego was already there, seated on one of the couches, fully dressed in a perfectly tailored corporate suit. His presence alone made the room feel colder. A man who looked like his male secretary sat beside him, also dressed neatly.

Diego sat with his long legs crossed, his attention fixed on the Rolex watch on his wrist. It did not take a genius to know he had been waiting for me. My heart skipped wildly, both from fear and something else I did not want to think too deeply about. Seeing him that morning, clean and breathtaking, made my chest tighten. His hair was neatly combed, and every one of his features stood out sharply.

“Good morning sir,” I greeted quietly as I approached them.

Slowly, he raised his head. His eyes looked cold, heavy, and emotionless. He only nodded slightly.

“What is the time? And why are you waking up by this time? Did you not see that we were waiting for you?” His voice carried no warmth.

I bit my lower lip and lowered my head immediately. Shame burned through me. I really messed up.

“I am sorry sir. It will never happen again,” I quickly apologized.

He did not respond. He simply stood up with that same intimidating aura, and his secretary followed him. I did not need anyone to tell me that I should follow them too.

We stepped out of the mansion, and two sleek cars were already waiting outside. The bodyguard rushed forward to open the door for Diego and he got in smoothly, followed by his male secretary.

I stood there awkwardly for a moment, unsure if I was allowed to enter the same car. I was literally overthinking the whole thing until Diego rolled down the glass slightly.

“Are you just going to stand there all day?” he asked flatly.

I jumped inside immediately, slamming the door shut in panic. My body pressed against the cold interior of the car. The gate opened automatically and the car zoomed off.

Minutes later, the car came to a halt. I knew we had arrived at the company. The security guards quickly moved forward and opened the door for us. I stepped out and raised my head to look at the building.

My jaw dropped. My eyes widened in disbelief.

For the first time in my life, I was seeing the Martin’s Company with my own eyes. After years of hearing about it, standing before it felt unreal. The building was gigantic, white, and strikingly modern. It was like standing before a structure built for royalty.

This company was the biggest in the entire country. And here I was, standing in front of it like someone who had just stepped into a dream.

I waited for Diego to step out, then walked beside him as we moved toward the entrance. The moment the security saw him approaching, they rushed to open the large glass doors.

For the first time in my life, I felt important.

We stepped inside and immediately the large reception area swallowed us. All eyes turned toward us. Or maybe toward me. I could not even lift my head. I knew people were wondering who I was and why I was walking beside Diego like someone who belonged there.

Whispers floated around, but I ignored them. I just kept my eyes low and stayed close to Diego. The company was extremely large. You could easily get lost inside it. Everything looked futuristic, like something from a different world entirely.

We walked for what felt like twenty minutes before getting into the elevator. When the elevator doors opened, instead of the usual hallway, it revealed an office that looked more like a modern castle. Huge, sophisticated, and breathtaking. I knew immediately that it was Diego’s office.

We stepped inside. He threw his office bag casually on a classic couch. The office was massive. The marble floor was shining and the walls looked expensive. Everything smelled of wealth.

I stood silently, carefully taking in every detail. His name was neatly placed on his desk, and piles of documents were arranged with perfect precision. From one side of the office, you could even see the city from the glass walls.

Then Diego finally spoke.
“Zion, please show her to her office and make sure you send her some files to process so I can cross check and test her abilities,” he instructed coldly.

So the secretary’s name was Zion.

“Okay sir,” Zion replied, then turned to me with a polite and warm smile. “Please let me show you to your office.”

I nodded.

We entered the elevator again and went down to the second floor. As we walked down the hallway, I was completely amazed by how elegant everything was. More eyes followed us, but I ignored them. I did not come here to compete with anyone. I only came to earn my money and get out.

We finally stopped in front of a transparent glass office. Zion pushed the door open and gestured for me to enter.

I stepped inside slowly. My heart melted.

This was my office?

It was beautiful.

Zion smiled at me.
“This is your office Lyla. I hope you like it?”

I turned to him and nodded with a small smile. “Yes, I love it so much. Thank you.”

“Good to hear,” he replied.

I walked toward the office chair and ran my fingers gently over it. Then something caught my eyes. My name was already carved on the board, just like Diego’s.

For a moment, I felt like a brand new person. Like someone starting a new chapter of her life.

I sat gently on the chair and rolled it slightly, smiling from my heart. The feeling was indescribable.

Zion chuckled softly.
“It seems you love the off
ice so much.”

I nodded again, still smiling.
“Yes, I love it. It makes me feel brand new.”
