Chapter 10
Neighbors who knew each other gossiped that Jacob drank heavily every day at home, filling the house with his curses, and blamed all his misfortunes on Mia.
He also abused Mia, often leaving her bruised and battered, her skin marred everywhere.
Things seemed like they might finally be over.
Unexpectedly, I came across their live stream in the city.
They were explaining themselves.
Through tears, Mia said to the camera, "My brother and I are not incestuous! We are not blood-related at all! Please stop calling us disgusting."
"I have severe depression, and if you keep this up, it will kill me!"
"This whole situation was orchestrated by my former sister-in-law to frame my brother and me!"
It's hard to believe, but Mia, tearfully pleading, actually garnered support from some morally questionable individuals.
But the internet also has its fair share of decent people.
"Why are you playing the victim? If you and your brother love each other, go somewhere no one knows you, why harm another girl!"
"Exactly, your former sister-in-law is really unlucky to have come across a family like yours!"
"My God, this is no different from being tricked into a sham marriage! It's just as disgusting!"
Most netizens, it must be said, still had their heads on straight.
Then Mia and Jacob tried to throw the blame on me.
"My sister-in-law knew everything! She was shamelessly clinging to my brother! He made it clear he didn't like her, it was all her doing!"
Bullying me because they think I won't confront them online?
I immediately registered an account and posted a video and screenshots of Jacob's chats that I had previously recorded.
The title was: "Morally twisted siblings tricked me into marriage, wanting me to bear children to cover up their illicit affair."
The video was definitive proof.
It played unedited footage of Jacob comforting Mia, saying, "You need to be more restrained in front of your sister-in-law. You know I don't really love her. Marrying her was just to cover for us."
"And besides, your sister-in-law's family is so rich, why don't we have her give us a child, then I'll divorce her, and won't our life then become more justified?" he said.
There were various chat screenshots proving I was tricked into marriage.
I thought this would pass without Jacob and his sister causing trouble, but she just had to stir things up and slander me.
Now, I've released solid evidence, and they don't even dare to go online.
"Isn't this a clear case of marriage fraud? What about him chasing her initially? This man wants to cheat his ex-wife out of her money and take her sister! Despicable."
"My God, unheard of, it's so disgusting I could vomit up last night's dinner."
Then a more intense and sustained wave of cyberbullying began.
The word "CHEAP" was painted in large letters in front of Mia and Jacob's door.
Numerous people voiced their sympathy for me, defending me in the process.
During this period, whenever they went out, they were pointed at and ridiculed; some outrageous ones even threw rotten vegetables and rotten eggs at them.
"Disgusting!"
"Corrupting morals!"
"Fraudsters! May thunder strike them!"
They lived every day like rats in a sewer, constantly hiding.
A few days later, Jacob called me.
His voice was hoarse and worn, "Amelia, please let us go! We're at our wits' end! I apologize for the wrong I've done before!"
"Mia is pregnant and can't withstand this harassment."
"Speak to your followers! Let us go!"
I laughed out loud.
"She's pregnant, what does that have to do with me?"
I hung up quickly, ignoring his pleas.
Later, I saw them on a street corner; Jacob had broken his leg from running around, and they were pushing a small cart selling skewers.
The two were having a heated argument over mere pennies.
Jacob started hitting Mia right there on the street, her pleas filling the air.
I quickly stayed far away.
