Chapter 69 Thrilling Car Accident
Chapter 69 Thrilling Car Accident
The bus still hadn't come. Giselle stood at the platform, watching her hopes drain away with each passing minute.
Fuller Corporation was her last shot, and now even that door seemed to be slamming shut.
Did she really have to crawl back to Valentin like Andrew wanted? The thought of facing Valentin's cool, assessing gaze made her chest constrict.
She let out a bitter laugh and turned toward the nearest subway station when her phone buzzed in her pocket.
A new email.
Giselle pulled out her phone, bracing herself for another rejection. But when she saw "Fuller Corporation HR" in the sender field, her heart stuttered.
Her hands shook as she opened it.
[Dear Ms. Montague, Congratulations on passing the final interview for Fuller Corporation's Administrative Department. You have successfully secured the position of Senior Administrative Assistant. Please report at 9 AM tomorrow with relevant documents to complete the onboarding process.]
Senior Assistant. Top of the pay scale.
She read it three times. The words didn't change.
That formal offer letter glowed on her screen, undeniably real.
The rush of relief nearly knocked her off her feet. She'd been certain she'd bombed the interview, but somehow fate had thrown her a curveball.
She didn't want to question it. This was the first real break she'd caught since everything fell apart.
The emotion she'd been holding back for weeks surged up, and tears pricked her eyes. She leaned against the platform's billboard and sank down, letting herself feel it all.
When she finally pulled herself together, the first person she wanted to tell was Ethan.
Giselle stood, pulled out her phone again, and for the first time in forever, smiled without forcing it.
[Ethan, I got the Fuller offer! I start tomorrow!]
She'd just hit send when something bright red flashed in her peripheral vision.
A red sports car, horn blaring when it was barely ten feet away.
Giselle's body locked up, her mind blanking out completely.
The sports car shrieked to a stop at the last second, but the front end still clipped her knee, sending a spike of pain through her leg. The impact knocked her off balance, and she barely managed to stay upright.
Before she could get a word out, the car door flew open.
A young woman in designer everything and flawless makeup stormed out, her voice dripping with accusation, "What are you doing standing by the road? Do you have any idea how much this car costs? If you'd damaged it, could you even afford to pay for it?"
Giselle's hands went cold with anger. The woman had been speeding and not paying attention, and now she was trying to flip the script.
She opened her mouth to respond when someone tugged gently at her arm.
"Don't," a low, urgent voice said in her ear.
She turned to find a girl about her age shaking her head, eyes full of warning.
"That's Wendy Fuller. The CEO's only daughter."
The words hit like ice water. Giselle had just landed the job—if she pissed off the boss's daughter now, she could kiss tomorrow goodbye.
She bit down hard on her tongue and swallowed every word she wanted to say.
When Giselle stayed silent, Wendy looked annoyed but too busy to care. With an irritated huff, she clicked away in her heels and disappeared into Fuller Corporation.
Only after that flash of red vanished did Giselle finally exhale.
She looked down at her leg. Her skirt was torn at the hem, and an angry red mark bloomed on her skin with tiny beads of blood welling up.
"Are you okay?" The girl who'd stopped her let go, concern written all over her face.
"I'm fine. Thank you." Giselle managed a genuine smile.
Without that warning, she might've done something stupid and lost everything.
The girl looked relieved, a little nervous but genuinely kind, "Don't mention it. I'm Quiana. I was in the interview with you earlier. Do you remember?"
Giselle hesitated, trying to place her, but came up blank.
Quiana didn't seem bothered and smiled even wider, "I sat across from you. You really stood out, so I remembered."
The unguarded warmth caught Giselle off guard. She nodded, softening, "Thank you."
"How'd your interview go? You must've done well, right?" Quiana's eyes lit up with anticipation.
Giselle couldn't help but smile, "I got it."
"That's incredible!" Quiana's excitement seemed even bigger than her own. But then her shoulders sagged a little, "I wasn't so lucky. The interviewer said I didn't have enough experience and to wait for their call... Which basically means no."
The disappointment lasted all of two seconds before she bounced back, "But it's fine! I already found a receptionist job at another company near Fuller. It's smaller, but it's close by. Maybe we can commute together and grab lunch sometime."
