Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Urik stood in the center of the main chamber, breathing it in. He looked at the circle on the floor, now inert, and then at the shelves of grim, powerful tomes. They were still part of him, part of his story, but they no longer defined him.
"We have changed this place," Urik murmured, more to himself than to Melek.
"We have changed everything," Melek corrected, coming to stand behind him. His presence was a solid, warm pressure against Urik's back. "The tower, the forest, the balance of power in this region. And most of all, we have changed each other." He placed his hands on Urik's shoulders, his touch both possessive and grounding. "The Arcanum Council will sense this change as a shift in the wind. My kind will feel it as a new star burning in the infernal sky. Our peace was bought tonight, but it is a fragile thing."
Urik leaned back into the solid strength of him, closing his eyes. The fatigue of their creation was a pleasant weight in his bones, and the certainty of Melek's presence was the anchor that kept him from floating away on the tide of his own transformed power.
"Let them come," Urik said, his voice quiet but steel-clad. He turned within Melek's loose embrace to face him. "Let them bring their judgments and their fire. They will find that a healer's hands, when forced, can still break bones. And that a sanctuary defended is the most dangerous fortress of all."
Melek's answering smile was a flash of white in the dim light, a promise of shared fury and shared triumph. "Now you speak a language I understand perfectly." In that moment, standing in their redeemed tower, surrounded by the echoes of their impossible creation, the line between warlock and demon, between healing and conquest, had not just blurred; it had been utterly rewritten.
The energy in the air shifted in an instant. The fierce determination of Urik's declaration didn't dissipate; it transformed, merging with the latent charge that always existed between them. The look they exchanged was no longer one of planning or challenge, but of pure, raw need. The connection they had used to heal the land now turned inward, a closed circuit of burning desire.
Melek didn't say a word. His hands, resting on Urik's shoulders, slid down with fierce possessiveness, pulling him back against the solid heat of his body. Urik let out a rough sound, a half-moan, half-snarl, as Melek's mouth found the junction of his neck and shoulder. It wasn't a kiss; it was a claiming. The demon's teeth clenched on the flesh, not with enough force to bleed, but with enough pressure to promise bruises, to remind Urik who he belonged to.
"You speak of breaking bones," Melek whispered against his skin, his breath hot like embers. "But it is you who is trembling, little warlock. It is you who will be undone tonight."
Urik turned within the embrace, his dark eyes wide with passion and newly discovered power. "Undo me, then," he challenged, his voice a thread of rough silk. He buried his fingers in Melek's pitch-black hair and yanked his head back, exposing the strong line of his throat. "Show me a demon can be more than destruction."
The growl that came from Melek was pure beast. He captured Urik's lips in a kiss that was less an act of love and more an act of conquest. It was a battle of tongues and teeth, a taste of shared power and sweat. Melek's hands roamed Urik's body with a brutal urgency, tearing the warlock's thin robes as if they were spiderwebs. The shreds of dark cloth fell to the stone floor, a pale contrast against his now-exposed skin.
Urik retaliated with equal ferocity, his own hands finding the buckles and leather of Melek's attire. He didn't care for finesse; he wanted to feel the demon's warm skin, the texture of old scars under his palms. When Melek's torso was revealed, Urik lowered his head and bit into the hard muscle of his pectoral, eliciting a guttural moan that vibrated through them both.
They didn't make it to the upper chambers. The need was too great, too immediate. Melek shoved Urik against the nearest bookshelf, making potion vials rattle dangerously. The contact of Urik's bare skin against the cold wood was a shock, quickly overridden by the crushing heat of Melek's body pressed against him from behind.
"You want to be my fortress?" Melek whispered, his voice a growl in his ear, while his hands swept over Urik's flanks, descending to grip his hips with a strength that would surely leave finger-shaped bruises. "Then take me. Take all my fury and make it your strength."
The preparation was quick, almost brutal, but Urik didn't want gentleness. He wanted the burn, the stretch, the feeling of being filled to the brim by this primordial force that was now part of him. When Melek entered him, it was with a single, powerful thrust that tore a muffled scream from Urik. The pain was a sharp, white flash, quickly consumed by an overwhelming wave of pleasure so intense it bordered on agony.
Melek showed no mercy. His hips slammed against Urik with a fierce, primal rhythm, each thrust a reminder of his power, of his possession. The bookshelf groaned, and ancient tomes thudded to the floor. Urik gripped the shelves, his knuckles white, his head thrown back against Melek's shoulder. He was being split open, consumed, possessed in a way that made the blood pact seem a mere formality.
But he was not passive. Through the bond, he didn't just feel Melek's pleasure; he amplified it, sending ripples of his own arousal back into the demon. He pushed back, meeting Melek's rhythm, challengingly, desperately.
"This... is it," Urik gasped, his voice jarred by the impacts. "This is... what I'm hungry for."
That shattered the last of Melek's restraint. His arm wrapped around Urik's waist, pulling him closer, deeper, while his teeth sank into the warlock's shoulder again, this time breaking the skin. The metallic taste of Urik's blood on Melek's tongue was the final trigger.
