CHAPTER 158- GIDEON

The next morning, I woke up with a sense of clarity I hadn't felt in years. My mind was still tangled with thoughts of Emily, but for once, they weren't weighed down by doubt or hesitation. The kiss we'd shared had changed everything.

It wasn't just about the physical connection, though that had been electric-it was the trust in her eyes, the way she looked at me like she saw the man I was beneath the silence and strength.

I knew then that I couldn't hold back anymore. If I wanted her to trust me completely, I had to show her the parts of myself I usually kept hidden.

Later that day, I texted Emily and asked if she could meet me at the park. It was a simple request, and she replied almost immediately with a "Yes."

When I arrived, she was already there, sitting on a bench with her hands tucked into the pockets of her coat. The January chill painted her cheeks pink, and her hair framed her face in soft waves.

"Hey," I said, my voice softer than usual.

"Hey," she replied, her lips curving into a small smile.

I sat beside her, the distance between us minimal but significant. For a moment, neither of us spoke, the quiet hum of the city filling the space.

"Thank you for coming," I said finally, my fingers brushing over hers where they rested on the bench.

"I'm glad you asked," she said, her gaze meeting mine. "You seemed… different last night."

I nodded, taking a steadying breath. "I've been thinking a lot about you. About us. And I realized that if this is going to work, you deserve to know everything. Not just the parts of me that are easy to show."

Her brow furrowed slightly, but she didn't interrupt.

"You know I don't talk much," I began, my voice low. "It's not because I don't have things to say. It's because for a long time, I didn't think anyone cared to listen."

Her eyes softened, and she reached out, her fingers wrapping around mine.

"I grew up in a house where strength was everything," I continued. "Showing emotion? That was a weakness. So I learned to keep it all in. And as I got older, it just became… easier that way."

I paused, my throat tightening. "But then I met you, Emily. And suddenly, silence didn't feel safe anymore. It felt like I was cheating you out of something important. Like I was holding back when you deserved more."

Her grip on my hand tightened, her gaze never leaving mine.

"You don't have to carry all of that alone, Gideon," she said softly. "Not anymore."

The sincerity in her voice unraveled something inside me, and before I knew it, the words were spilling out.

"I care about you, Emily," I said, my voice raw. "More than I've cared about anyone in a long time. And I don't know if I'll ever be good at saying the right things, but I'll show you. Every day, I'll show you how much you mean to me."

Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and she leaned closer, her hand reaching up to rest against my cheek.

"You've already shown me," she whispered. "In ways I didn't even realize I needed."

I couldn't stop myself from kissing her then. This time, it was slower, more deliberate-a silent promise in every brush of our lips.

She melted into me, her fingers tangling in the collar of my coat as I pulled her closer. The world around us faded, the cold forgotten as we lost ourselves in the connection we'd been building for so long.

When we finally pulled apart, her cheeks were flushed, her breathing uneven.

"I don't know how you do that," she said, her voice breathless.

"Do what?" I asked, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

"Make me feel… like this," she admitted, her lips quivering into a shy smile.

I couldn't help but smile back, my chest tightening with something I couldn't quite name.

We spent the rest of the afternoon walking through the park, talking about everything and nothing. For the first time, I let myself be completely open with her, sharing stories I hadn't told anyone in years.

And in return, she shared pieces of herself-her fears, her dreams, the little quirks that made her who she was.

By the time the sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of gold and pink, I knew one thing for certain: I would do whatever it took to keep her in my life.

As we stood by the park's edge, watching the city come alive with lights, I turned to her and said the words I'd been holding back for too long.

"You're everything I didn't know I needed, Emily."

She looked up at me, her eyes shining with emotion. "So are you, Gideon."

For the first time in years, I felt like I wasn't just standing on solid ground-I was building something worth holding onto.
