Chapter 19
ENJOYING THE NIGHT
ALEXIS CLARK'S POV
‘‘Are you okay? You look a bit pale,’’ Eric said, stepping closer to me, and making me step back involuntarily.
And being the lucky girl I was, I stumbled on the couch, falling face flat on it.
‘‘I'm okay,’’ I said, raising a thumb in the air.
‘‘Yeah, I can see that. Let me help you,’’ Eric said before pulling me up from my shoulders
‘‘My hair probably looks like a mess now,’’ I mumbled, laughing at my miseries.
‘‘You look pretty okay to me. You look beautiful,’’ he said, his face only an inch away from mine. And I don't know if it was just my delusion, but I think his eyes turned dark for a brief second.
Maybe I am watching so many rom-coms about werewolves that my head is filled with nothing but these romantic ideas. Bidding at my explanation, I stood straight, creating some distance between us.
‘‘I…um…we are getting late,’’ I said, wanting to ease the tension in the room.
‘‘Sure princess, let's go,’’ Eric said, making me roll my eyes before I looked at him sharply. He did not just call me that.
‘‘Don't call me that,’’ I said, more like hissed.
‘‘Why not?’’
‘‘Because I don't like it,’’
‘‘Well, you let Mark call you that,’’
‘‘He is different,’’
‘‘He is my brother. I don’t see a problem in that,’’
‘‘He might be your brother, but you are not mine. And why are we even arguing about it? Just don't call me that,’’ I warned, which came out more like a child's whining.
‘‘Well, okay sweetheart,’’ Eric said, chuckling at my contorted face.
‘‘Whatever. Get in the car,’’ I said, before taking a look at my house.
‘‘You know, you're pretty easy to get along with. Not at all like how Mark described you,’’ Eric said, making me look at him briefly before facing the front again.
‘‘Now, what's that supposed to mean? What did he say to you,?’’ I asked, already knowing it might not be something good.
‘‘Well, he said you're very grumpy and moody. He said not to disturb you when you're working on your experiment, or you'd turn into a grin reaper and rip my soul out of me. He also mentioned to stay out of your food,’’ Eric said, making me chuckle.
‘‘He's exaggerating things because of what happened last time when he stayed with me,’’ I said before taking a swift turn angrily.
After driving for more than an hour, we finally arrived at the destination of the beach, which coincidentally happened to be just a few kilometres from Blake's pack.
This makes me wonder if any of the werewolves will be at the party. I mean, it wasn't a rare occurrence for a werewolf to join such a party. Besides, it's not a university where only humans are allowed. Everyone in the locality is allowed to join this party. Not to mention that werewolves always get a pass to join the party because of their hot and sexy body.
‘‘Earth to Alexis, are we going inside or going to sit here like this?’’ Eric asked, bringing me out of my la la land
‘‘Yeah, sorry for spacing out. Let's go,’’ I said before turning off the engine and exiting the car.
Entering the party, I immediately spotted Audrey standing with Shayne and couldn't help but smile.
The tensions about the alpha can wait. I need to loosen up a bit now. With that in mind, I walked up to Audrey before tapping her shoulder.
I wanted to greet them both, but before I could turn around and say anything, I was engulfed in a tight hug, making it hard for me to breathe properly.
‘‘What the hell are you doing?’’ I heard an angry voice from behind me. And before I could say anything, Shayne was ripped off me.
Turning around, I looked at serious-faced Eric, who was throwing shades at Shayne through his eyes.
‘‘What the hell do you think you're doing Eric?’’ I said before taking Shayne's hand and pulling him closer to me.
For him, they might be humans, but to me, they were more than family.
‘‘Sorry, Alexis. I thought he was someone you don't know. Sorry man,’’ Eric said to Shayne, who just laughed it off before looking at me and hugging me again.
Looking behind Shayne, my eyes met Audrey, who had a weird look in her eyes while I was hugging Shayne, I knew what she was thinking about.
‘‘Shayne, if you're done hugging her, can you give us a minute?’’ Audrey said, pulling me a bit away from the boys.
‘‘I know what you're thinking about. There's nothing between him and I, okay?’’ I retorted, making her roll her eyes before glaring at me.
‘‘I swear, nothing is going on between us. I just met the guy for the first time today. He was sent as my bodyguard. He is responsible for my safety and nothing else,’’ I said again.
‘‘Are you sure he's just your bodyguard? Why do I smell something else cooking here?’’ Audrey questioned, and when I didn't reply, she huffed slightly before nodding her head.
‘‘I have no idea of the day I'd get to see your boyfriend. Are you thinking of becoming a monk or something?’’ Audrey remarked, making me chuck before we walked up to meet the boys again.
‘‘What did you girls talk about?’’ Shayne asked, curious as always.
‘‘Girls talk,’’ Audrey said, making Shayne roll his eyes.
This was one statement that Shayne hated most in the world, and Audrey deliberately used these words to annoy him.
‘‘You guys always do that to me. I'm not talking to you anymore,’’ Shayne said, and Audrey looked at me before we both nodded our heads in unison.
‘‘No, whatever you guys are thinking about, drop it,’’ Shayne shouted, however, his shouts were in vain when we took both of his hands in ours and pulled him towards the water before throwing him in.
‘’What wrong did I do in my life to get annoying friends like you?’’ he shouted when he surfaced again.
‘‘You know we love us,’’ I said and we all burst out laughing at his contorted face.
As I was laughing along with my friends, I felt a tingling sensation at my back as if someone was watching me.
Turning around, I looked into the forest where I saw a silhouette of someone.
‘‘Where are you looking at sweetheart?’’ I heard Eric's voice in my ear, making me jump in fright before I could react. He threw me into the water, making Shayne laugh as he pulled Audrey in.
‘‘You did not just do that. No one can save you from me now,’’ I said, making Eric laugh before a game of chasing started, as I started running behind to get him into the water like all of us.
