Chapter 17

HIT THE INTRUDER! SORRY

ALEXIS CLARK'S POV

Sitting in front of the person I found in front of my house, I waited for him to wake up so I could question him. He wasn't unconscious when I found him. It was precisely me who had hit him into this unconscious state with my brilliant skills. But can someone blame me? I am a girl who lives alone. What is one supposed to do when one finds someone in your house sneaking into the kitchen without your permission? He doesn't even have my keys, which means he had trespassed into my territory.

‘‘Look who's talking about trespassing,’’ Ariana said, making me roll my eyes at her.

‘‘That thing is different from this one. I have never barged into someone's home,’’ I retorted and was about to say more when my phone started to ring.

Seeing Mark's call, I picked up the phone in an instant, wanting to tell him about the intrusion in my house. However, before I could do that, he started speaking first.

‘‘Have you seen my surprise?’’ Those were his first words.

‘‘Surprise? What are you talking about?’’ I asked, feeling confused now.

‘‘Aren't you home already? I had prepared a surprise for you,’’ he said, making me more confused.

‘‘Honestly, Mark, I am in no mood for surprises anymore. I entered my house today, I saw this guy__,’’ I started but was cut off by Mark who interrupted in between.

‘‘Did he clean the house well?’’ Mark asked.

‘‘What do you mean if he cleaned well?’’ I asked.

‘‘Don't tell me he didn't do his job properly. I told him to do it properly or I won't share my Xbox collection with him. Connect me to my brother. Let me talk some sense into him,’’ he said, and though I was getting hold of the situation, I was still hoping that I was wrong.

‘‘Mark, you're going a bit too fast. Can you please explain properly? Starting with what this guy is doing in my house,’’ I said, hoping it wasn't what it looked like.

‘‘Come on Alexis, don't say your studies are making you dumber now. When you told me you’d be shifting back to your old forest house for some time again, knowing that your house must be looking like crap, with all the specks of dirt lingering and things, I asked my cousin's brother who was near the area, to go and clean the place. I told him to use the spare keys you always keep hidden in the grass porch. And in return, I’d let him play with my Xbox collection for a month because I am going on a business trip in another country which might take a month to come back,’’ Mark said, and as much as I hated to admit it, I had committed a terrible mistake here.

‘‘I was telling you earlier, wasn't I?’’ Ariana asked.

‘‘You never mentioned anything about something like this okay?’’ I retorted before looking at the guy in front of me who was tied to a chair like a prisoner.

‘‘Hello, Alexis, what is happening there? Why aren't you responding? Connect me to him, I want to give him a piece of my mind,’’ Mark said.

Now, how am I supposed to connect with an unconscious man over the phone?

‘‘I can't connect him to the phone. Mark…i..umm…the condition is not favorable for that,’’ I said, trying to sound as reasonable as possible.

‘‘What do you mean the condition is not favorable? Is he threatening you or something? Don't be afraid of him, okay? I will kick his ass if he tries as much as to lay a finger on you. I will__,’’

‘‘He can't do anything to me. He's incapable of that. He is currently lying unconscious in front of me, tied with a rope to a chair like some sort of prisoner,’’ I said, coming straight to the point. There was no point in hiding it anyway. He will come to know about it sooner or later.

There was a long moment of silence on the other end of the phone. I didn't know what was going through his head now.

Will he blame me for what I did to this guy? I mean, he had asked him to clean the house for me. And rather than being grateful, I hit him with a basketball bat. Moreover, this guy was his cousin's brother.

‘‘Mark, are you there?’’ I asked when he didn't reply to me for more than a minute.

‘‘You mean, you've hit my brother and now he's unconscious?’’ He asked, making me mumble an embarrassed yes.

He will surely scold me now, or that was what I thought. But what happened next was something I hadn't expected at all. Mark started laughing hysterically as if he won the biggest prize in the whole world, making me look at the phone to see if it was Mark.

‘‘The jerk deserved that. Now tell me what happened. This information is too precious not to be listened to in detail,’’ he said and I went into the flashback, telling him everything that happened.

Twenty minutes ago…

‘‘You've got to be kidding me,’’ was the first thought that entered my mind as I arrived at my forest house and saw the state it was in.

To say I was surprised would be an understatement as I was feeling something above that.

I was shocked, looking at the state of my house, not because it was dirty or full of bugs or animal litter. No, I was shocked because my house was clean.

And by clean, I don't mean just the absence of the above-mentioned things, but everything. There wasn't even a speck of dust on the table. It looked like someone had cleaned it thoroughly and recently, like today itself.

But how can that happen? The keys to this house were either with Mark or with me.

What if there was some kind of intruder inside the house? What if someone was intending to kill me and has gotten inside the house allegedly to kill me, harass me, or worse, hand me over to an Alpha? I thought before picking up the baseball bat that I kept near the gate.

‘‘Yeah, like a killer or harasser would come to your house and be like, Ew, this girl's house is dirty. Let me clean it up before killing her or harassing her, right?’’ My conscience said, making me roll my eyes at her.

What does she know, she's nothing but a conscience.

‘‘For the tenth time, I'm your wolf, woman,’’ Ariana yelled.

‘‘If you're my wolf, then show yourself to me. Come on, turn into a wolf. Can you do that?’’ I shouted at her, only for her to become quiet again.

Well, that was what I had thought. I scoffed before looking outside the window. It was already starting to get dark. I need to change my clothes and go shopping before going to the party.

But before all this, I need to see how someone entered my house.

Smack! Crunch!

I heard a weird breaking sound coming from my kitchen, making me turn my head in that direction. Gripping the baseball bat tightly and taking the position. I started quietly toward the kitchen, and it wasn't long before I saw a head popping out of my cabinet.

‘‘Hey, girl, you must be__,’’ He started when he sensed me, but I didn't let him go any further.

‘‘There’s indeed an intruder!’’ It was the only thing that crossed my mind before I swung my bat and hit him directly on the head.

………………….

Ending the description of what happened twenty minutes ago, I looked up only to get shocked when my eyes met with a pair of dark brown eyes.

‘‘Haha. You won't take this thing to heart right?’’ That was the first thing I said, and I don’t know if I should be happy that the guy smiled at my words or I should be concerned because the smile looked kinda creepy.
