173. You just don't need to know that

Alana

What my husband didn't know was that the idea of returning to Fastfall hadn't come from one day to the next. When he spent all those days away from me, as soon as he found out that I had given birth to a girl and not a boy, during that period I received a letter from the capital of the witches' country—a letter written by the hand of Emory himself, the prince of the witch people. Emory was personally inviting me to go live with him in his castle in the City of Gold.

He made great proposals that I would be very well received and honored for being a witch with such rare abilities. He wrote to me saying that I was wasting the gift that the great wizard granted me when I insisted on staying in a kingdom that wasn't mine in principle, which was with Sedrik's wolves.

Of course, I got rid of the letter and didn't even pay attention to it, because I knew very well what witches were like, and I knew that in the end, all those things were just pretty words and that Emory wanted to use me and manipulate me. So I ignored that and decided to focus on my husband and my daughter, but I couldn't deny that this would actually be a great option to turn my life around if my relationship with Sedrik didn't work out.

Of course, I didn't want to be separated from Sedrik, I loved him with all my strength, and I was sure that would never change in me. But I think the part about me being a woman with a life that depends on me now—I wasn't going to let even Sedrik or anyone else mess with her.

If the alpha intended to despise my daughter, he was despising me too, so I couldn't see myself being married to someone who had thoughts like those. Sedrik still needed to wake up to reality, put his pessimism aside, and allow himself to be happy with what life gave us, but I wasn't going to put my daughter's life at stake to wait for him to have insight.

That night, I slept alone with my baby in one of the spare rooms in my husband's mansion. My maids didn't ask any questions about it because it wasn't necessary for them to comment, but they realized that something wasn't right between me and the alpha. The next morning, Sedrik didn't come to the room where I was staying to see how I was doing or at least try to talk to me.

In my madness, I didn't think that things were already like this between me and him, that is, I was willing to overlook the days he spent away even though I needed him a lot. I was willing to let it go because I didn't want negative things to influence our marriage. That's why, when he came home, I treated him so well, even though he didn't deserve it.

So I let him have my body when he needed it. I was willing to play his game of looking for a new pregnancy since he wanted a son so much. I was willing to do anything, but even after our fight, I spent the entire morning waiting for him to knock on my bedroom door and come in, apologizing and saying he couldn't live without me.

Furthermore, I was waiting for him to come hug me and tell me how much he loved me, then I would pull him into my bed, and we would make love all night long, but that didn't happen. Sedrik didn't knock on the door that night, leaving me terribly sad and disappointed. He was so stubborn...

“Are you telling me that you and your daughter slept here the night before?” Skylar asked when she and the girls came to see me the next morning. Of course, they would come. I was sure that although the maids hadn't said anything about it, of course they had already spread the gossip through the castle corridors. It was something typical that normally couldn't be avoided, so I wasn't surprised when that morning I received a visit from my three best friends.

I sighed, sitting down in an armchair near the bedroom window as they were sitting on the sofa in front of me, swiping milk tea and eating chocolate biscuits. “Yes, girls,” I replied. “Sedrik and I ended up fighting.”

“Well, we already expected that after he was gone all those days and came home as if nothing had happened,” Maya commented, not being merciful towards the alpha. At that moment her daughter and mine were playing together in the crib that was in the room, it was so adorable to see.

“Yes, we thought that,” Lily also commented. “But then the maids kept saying that you and your husband were in good harmony, talking and socializing throughout the day, so we thought that maybe you two had sorted things out,” she shrugged.

“Is it that, or do you fight in a very different way than usual?” Skylar asked with a sarcastic giggle. “I mean, one moment you are living together and fucking so good, and the next moment you are sleeping in separate rooms. How could we understand this?” She had a confused face, and the two others also seemed to be sharing the same doubts as her.

“You tell me, Skylar,” I told her in an affronted stance. “So you spent the day saying you would never be with a man like Wallace, while every night you sneak into his room and sleep with him.” It was true that she acted like that, she thought that no one knew that, but everyone in the pack knew that she slept in Wallace's room every night, and when she wasn't in his room, he was in hers.

Skylar blushed now. “Of course not, you just made that up now!” she vehemently denied.

“But what’s the problem with establishing a relationship with Wallace? I think he's such a good guy,” Maya asked, finding Skylar's reluctance absurd.

“She thinks Wallace is too wild for her and that he could never take her seriously,” I exposed my friend. Of course, Skylar never talked about it, but I knew her well enough to know that it was really what she thought, but obviously there were deeper things than that that I wasn't going to reveal out of the blue just to gain an advantage in an argument.

“Girl, calm down. Why are you thinking this about Wallace?” Lily asked. “I thought that about Toby too, but he's proving to be an excellent boyfriend so far. Plus, he is an amazing sexual mate, if you know what I mean.” She batted her eyelashes with a naughty expression on her face, making it clear that her sexual life was more active than ever.

“By the goddess, Toby took away the child's purity,” Maya said, laughing about that, and we all laughed too.

“But anyway, my issue with Wallace isn’t the point here,” Skylar said, looking back at me. “We were talking about you and your Alpha husband, Alana. Don’t try to avoid the issue any longer and tell us what’s going on.”

I bit my lip lightly, being nervous and not knowing how to tell my best friends that I was moving.
