171. Like a family
Alana
I, who wasn't stupid or anything, let Sedrik stay in the company of our daughter for a while longer, just the two of them, so that he could have that realization of how adorable and perfect she was, but of course, I didn't leave it long because otherwise he would start thinking too much and his traumas would attack him again, so I appeared in the room with a sigh as if I had been very busy in the bathroom.
“Phew! Everything was so messy in there, I'm glad I finished,” I said, approaching him, who was next to the crib. Our baby had already stopped crying, as she was curious to know who this new face that had just appeared was.
“It's okay,” Sedrik said, going to throw himself on the bed and looking at me as I took the baby in my arms, talking to her affectionately.
“Mommy is here, my sweetheart. Did you see Daddy? Didn't you? What did you think of him? He’s handsome, right?” I asked her while smiling and petting her.
"What the heck are you doing? Why are you talking to her like that? The baby doesn't even understand anything yet,” he said, clicking his tongue and mumbling.
“Of course she understands, love. And not only that, have you forgotten that she communicated with me telepathically when she was still in my womb? Our daughter is very intelligent and extremely powerful,” I told him as I sat down in an armchair to feed the child. Sedrik followed every gesture I made, being very curious.
“She’s so smart that I didn’t even say exactly what gender she was in my womb, right?” he commented sarcastically. It was true that he and I had concluded that I was expecting a boy rather than a girl.
I sighed and caressed my baby while I fed her. “She's just a baby, she's not to blame for anything,” I said, and then I saw Sedrik go quiet with a heavy gaze toward the floor.
“I never really blamed her for anything, I know that the evil is in us and not in the child,” he said, looking very charged by the whole issue.
“Don’t be like that, Sedrik. Didn't you say you're going to get me pregnant again, and this time it's going to be a boy? So it will be, everything will be fine,” I told him. Of course, I had other opinions about this.
For me, it didn't matter if our child was a boy or a girl, because I knew he would still be a great leader and would lead this pack very well. It was about genetic inheritance, the power he had within this child was the one I possessed and her father's alpha type. This girl was extremely powerful; she would be able to lead battles and guide her people with wisdom, just like Sedrik and I were doing, and it didn't matter if she had a penis or a vagina between her legs.
I wanted to be saying this to Sedrik, but as much as I wanted that, I didn't want to provoke disputes by contradicting him, I didn't want to make him feel challenged by my words, so I was going to let time make him realize it, I said, and he did realize that it was okay to have a daughter instead of a son.
"Yes, yes. We still have to make a lot of love,” he said, resting his head in the palm of his hand as he lay on his side towards me. “But not now; now it pleases me to look at you like this, breastfeeding the fruit of our forbidden love; that's peculiarly attractive,” he said with a roguish chuckle. “Everyone was against our love, and no one believed that this could really work, but now here you are breastfeeding a child that we both fathered.”
I also laughed at that, feeling accomplished. It was a feeling similar to having been to hell and back, it was simply rewarding and good. “So I hope you're enjoying the view,” I told him with a smile playing on my lips.
“It's comforting and, at the same time, strangely sexy. You are without a doubt the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my entire bloody life,” he said, looking at me deeply and making me cry.
So the rest of the day we were having light and silly conversations about everything that was going on, and he didn't leave our quarters for even a moment. When his messenger appeared to inform him that work was waiting for him downstairs and that he had important things to resolve, Sedrik had everything postponed until the next day because, according to him, he had to spend time with his family. I felt honored and respected by him at that moment, the consideration he had for me was undeniable.
So he spent the whole day with me and the baby girl. We ate delicious food and played some cool board games while I shared with him what my first few weeks had been like with the baby after I gave birth.
“It wasn't as difficult as I expected,” I said. “Skylar and the girls helped me with everything, they even came to stay overnight to stay close by and helped me with everything I needed.”
“I'm glad they were helpful and didn't leave you alone,” he said as he played with dice in his fingers. “I thought about you every day and every night.”
“I was calling you, but…” I started to tell him.
“But I was blocking you,” he finished for me with a heavy look of guilt.
I smiled small at him. “It's okay, Sedrik. Your wife is not a crazy person who doesn't know how to understand a damn situation,” I said to him with some humor, and he laughed along with me. It was better to take it all in stride rather than make a big deal out of it, especially now that we had a life that depended so much on us.
He looked towards the nest of blankets that I had created to place the baby on top and looked at her, who was sucking the fat fingers of her little hand. “By the way, what’s her name?” he asked, and I giggled.
“The girls have several suggestions, but I preferred to wait for you to name your daughter yourself,” I told him finally.
